Factors influencing the prescription of add-on long-acting muscarinic antagonists in real-world asthma management: Insights from a national registry.

Background:  Peripheral vestibular hypofunction (PVH) is characterized by balance and gait disorders and vestibulo-autonomic findings. The vestibular system and proprioceptive system work together to regulate sensorimotor functions. Vestibular exercises are effective in PVH, but their superiority over each other is still unclear.

Development of a Subjective Visual Vertical Test System Using a Smartphone With Virtual Reality Goggles for Screening of Otolithic Dysfunction: Observational Study.

Background: The subjective visual vertical (SVV) test can evaluate otolith function and spatial awareness and is performed in dedicated vertigo centers using specialized equipment; however, it is not otherwise widely used because of the specific equipment and space requirements. An SVV test smartphone app was developed to easily perform assessments in outpatient facilities.

Objective: This study aimed to verify whether the SVV test smartphone app with commercially available virtual reality goggles can be used in a clinical setting.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell exosomes (ASCs exosome) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) in treating critical long bone defects in Sprague-Dawley rats. Critical long bone defects, defined as exceeding 2 cm or 50% of the bone diameter, often pose a healing challenge. While autologous bone grafts have been considered, they have shown unreliable results and donor-site complications, necessitating alternative treatments.

A new roll test to diagnose posterior semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

Background: The Dix-Hallpike (DH) test is a gold standard for diagnosing benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). However, lateral semicircular canal BPPV is not rare. We have been performing the new roll test that begins from the sitting position and contains a head-hanging position, in order not to overlook lateral canal BPPV.

Treatment with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and antacids affects the gastrointestinal absorption of levothyroxine sodium (LT4) tablets. Patients with hypothyroidism taking LT4 and PPIs or antacids, thus, require appropriate monitoring. The objective of this study was to determine whether a soft gelatin capsule of LT4 (Tirosint) would obviate the effect of PPIs on LT4 absorption.

Smartphone-Assisted Medical Care for Vestibular Dysfunction as a Telehealth Strategy for Digital Therapy Beyond COVID-19: Scoping Review.

Background: Dizziness and vertigo can be caused by various factors, such as peripheral vestibular and central disorders. Although consultations with specialists are advisable when necessary, patients with severe vertigo symptoms may have limited mobility, which may interfere with hospital visits. The spread of COVID-19 has further limited the number of hospital visits for patients with dizziness; therefore, a method of medical care that enables more accurate treatment under time and geographical constraints is needed.

Background: Head rotation produces a vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). In horizontal rotation, not only lateral semicircular canals but also posterior semicircular canals are stimulated, because posterior canals cupulae are not horizontal in the sitting position. Guided Zygomatic Implantology for Oral Cancer Rehabilitation: A Case Report.

Oral rehabilitation after maxillary oncological resection is challenging. This case report presents the rehabilitation of a 65-year-old Caucasian male adenoid cystic carcinoma patient using a myo-cutaneous thigh flap, zygomatic implant placement, and an immediate fixed provisional prosthesis made with computer-aided technologies. The patient presented complaints of asymptomatic enlarged swelling of 5-mm on the right hard hemi-palate.

The Effect of Hormone Replacement Treatment on Hearing Function in Hypothyroid Patients.

However, the effect of acquired hypothyroidism and hormone replacement treatment (HRT) on hearing function is still controversial. This study aimed to investigate hearing impairment and the effect of HRT on hearing function in patients with acquired hypothyroidism.

Electrical promontory stimulation test using a portable peripheral nerve stimulator with an ear canal electrode.

Objective: An intact cochlear nerve is necessary for successful cochlear implantation (CI). Although the promontory stimulation test (PST) using a promontory stimulator (PS) and a transtympanic needle electrode is invasive, it is still commonly used to verify cochlear nerve function. PSs are currently unavailable because they are no longer manufactured; however, considering that PST continues to be beneficial in certain situations, alternative equipment is needed.

Functional neuronal circuits promote disease progression in cancer.

The molecular and functional contributions of intratumoral nerves to disease remain largely unknown. We localized synaptic markers within tumors suggesting that these nerves form functional connections. Consistent with this, electrophysiological analysis shows that malignancies harbor significantly higher electrical activity than benign disease or normal tissues.

Picturing asthma in Turkey: results from the Turkish adult asthma registry.

Introduction: National data on asthma characteristics and the factors associated with uncontrolled asthma seem to be necessary for every country. For this purpose, we developed the Turkish Adult Asthma Registry for patients with asthma aiming to take a snapshot of our patients, thereby assigning the unmet needs and niche areas of intervention.

Methods: Case entries were performed between March 2018 and March 2022.

The observational clinical registry (cohort design) of the European Reference Network on Rare Adult Solid Cancers: The protocol for the rare head and neck cancers.

Introduction: Care for head and neck cancers is complex in particular for the rare ones. Knowledge is limited and histological heterogeneity adds complexity to the rarity. There is a wide consensus that to support clinical research on rare cancer, clinical registries should be developed within networks specializing in rare cancers.

High frequency hearing 25 years after transmyringeal ventilation tube treatment.

Objectives: The main aim of the study was to compare hearing outcome between a healthy control group and patients treated with transmyringeal ventilation tubes, 25 years after primary surgery. Another aim was to analyse the relation between ventilation tube treatment in childhood and the occurrence of persistent middle ear pathology 25 years later.

Methods: In 1996, children treated with transmyringeal ventilation tubes were recruited for a prospective study on the outcome of ventilation tube treatment.

Seasonal Distribution of Bell's Palsy.

Unlabelled: Bell's palsy (BP) is the most frequently diagnosed acute partial or complete paralysis of the facial nerve which has an unclear etiology and mostly affects one side of the face. Adverse weather conditions are considered to increase the likelihood of developing BP. The retrospective study included 199 BP patients aged 2-82 years that presented to the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) clinics at Kumluca State Hospital and Serik State Hospital, Antalya, Turkey and received treatment between January 2017 and December 2020.
