Background: A major challenge in learning rhinoplasty is correlating patients' external and internal nasal structures. We aim to explore the application of three dimensional (3D)-printed models of nasal bony-cartilaginous structures in identifying accurate nasal anatomy.
Methods: Otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery residents matched patient photograph models, described relative nasal bony-cartilaginous anatomy, completed pre- and postactivity self-evaluations (based on otolaryngology "nasal deformity" milestones including "anatomy," "function," "aesthetic," and "etiology"), and rated the 3D-printed models' usefulness.

Voice signal classification in three types according to their degree of periodicity, a task known as signal typing, is a relevant preprocessing step before computing any perturbation measures. However, it is a time consuming and subjective activity. This has given rise to interest in automatic systems that use objective measures to distinguish among the different signal types.

Squamous cell carcinoma of a thyroglossal duct cyst is exceedingly rare, with less than 30 cases reported across the literature. Herein, we present a case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of a thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) and discuss the utility of a level IA neck dissection in these cases. In 2018, a 62-year-old female presented to a university-affiliated otolaryngologist with symptoms of dysphagia and a palpable anterior midline neck mass.

Recent work has shown that sharp spectral edges in acoustic stimuli might have advantageous effects in the treatment of tonal tinnitus. In the course of this paper, we evaluate the long-term effects of spectrally notched hearing aids on the subjective tinnitus distress. By merging recent experimental work with a computational tinnitus model, we modified the commercially available behind-the-ear hearing aids so that a frequency band of 0.

In this retrospective case study, we report the apparent clinical effectiveness of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) in combination with voice therapy (VT) for rehabilitating dysphonia secondary to suspected superior laryngeal nerve (SLN) weakness in two female patients. Both patients failed or plateaued with traditional VT but had significant improvement with the addition of NMES of the cricothyroid muscle and SLN using a VitalStim unit. Stimulation was provided simultaneously with voice exercises based on musical phonatory tasks.

Phonating into narrow hard-walled tubes of varying diameters and length as an extension of the vocal tract is considered a semioccluded vocal tract exercise. Semioccluded vocal tract postures have been postulated to have a therapeutic effect during the treatment of the dysphonic patient. They appear to affect at least two components of the voice source (1) glottal flow pulse and (2) vibrational characteristics of the vocal folds.

The review considers management strategies for malignant melanoma metastatic to the larynx. This rare clinical entity lacks clear treatment recommendations because extirpative surgery can often result in severe functional debilitation in patients with limited life expectancy. Here, we report a case of melanoma metastatic to the larynx in a patient with a prior history of Hodgkin lymphoma.
