Early economic evaluation of the digital gait analysis system for fall prevention-Preliminary analysis of the GaitSmart system.

Objective: To develop an early economics evaluation (EEE) to assess the cost-effectiveness of the GS in reducing the RoF and FoF.

Methods: A cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) with a return on investment (RoI) estimation was performed. CEA used the most relevant parameters, such as increased gait speed and decreased FoF, to estimate the reduction in the RoF, the impact on health care resources used and financial implications for the National Health System in the United Kingdom.

Left ventricular thrombus in a patient with recurrent ischemic stroke events-The role of echocardiography.

The processes by which bacteria proactively scavenge essential nutrients in crowded environments such as the gastrointestinal tract are not fully understood. In this context, we observed that bacterial extracellular vesicles (BEVs) produced by the human commensal gut microbe contain multiple high-affinity vitamin B binding proteins suggesting that the vesicles play a role in micronutrient scavenging. Vitamin B belongs to the cobamide family of cofactors that regulate microbial communities through their limited bioavailability.

High variability of food and nutrient intake exists across the Mediterranean Dietary Pattern-A systematic review.

A Mediterranean style dietary pattern (MDP) is considered beneficial for health. The MD Score (MDS) definition has evolved, resulting in considerable variability in the foods and nutrients associated with MDS adherence. We systematically investigated food and nutrient composition of the MD between studies, countries, and methods of classifying the MDS.

A hidden cause of infertility in hypothyroid patients.

Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene mutations could be the cause of infertility in hypothyroid patients. Hence, it is worthy to screen for MTHFR gene mutations in infertile hypothyroid females and their partners if infertility persists after optimizing thyroid function.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia (ARVC/D) in clinical practice.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia (ARVC/D) is an inherited myocardial disease characterized by fibro-fatty replacement of the right ventricular myocardium, and associated with paroxysmal ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death (SCD). It is currently the second most common cause of SCD after hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in young people <35 years of age, causing up to 20% of deaths in this patient population. This condition has a male preponderance and is more commonly found in individuals of Italian and Greek descent.

Expression of protocadherin gamma in skeletal muscle tissue is associated with age and muscle weakness.

Background: The skeletal muscle system plays an important role in the independence of older adults. In this study we examine differences in the skeletal muscle transcriptome between healthy young and older subjects and (pre-)frail older adults. Additionally, we examine the effect of resistance-type exercise training on the muscle transcriptome in healthy older subjects and (pre-)frail older adults.
