Background: Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) poses diagnostic challenges due to its resemblance to benign pleural pathologies and different histological subtypes. Several immunohistochemistry markers have been employed to aid in accurate diagnosis.
Methods: The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic performance of various immunohistochemistry markers in malignant pleural mesothelioma diagnosis and its histological subtypes.

Hereditary hemolytic anemia associated with pyruvate kinase deficiency is a rare hematological disorder that affects the glycolic pathway within red blood cells. The standard of care includes splenectomy, transfusions, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. However, these treatments can lead to common iatrogenic side effects such as infections, surgical complications, and iron overload.

Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is a severe hereditary arrhythmia syndrome predominantly affecting children and young adults. It manifests through bidirectional or polymorphic ventricular arrhythmia, often culminating in syncope triggered by physical exertion or emotional stress which can lead to sudden cardiac death. Most cases stem from mutations in the gene responsible for encoding the cardiac ryanodine receptor (), or in the Calsequestrin 2 gene (), disrupting the handling of calcium ions within the cardiac myocyte sarcoplasmic reticulum.

BACKGROUNDCOVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) virus-specific antibody levels that translate into recipient posttransfusion antibody levels sufficient to prevent disease progression are not defined.METHODSThis secondary analysis correlated donor and recipient antibody levels to hospitalization risk among unvaccinated, seronegative CCP recipients within the outpatient, double-blind, randomized clinical trial that compared CCP to control plasma. The majority of COVID-19 CCP arm hospitalizations (15/17, 88%) occurred in this unvaccinated, seronegative subgroup.

Objective: Given the importance of unhurried conversations for providing careful and kind care, we sought to create, test, and validate the Unhurried Conversations Assessment Tool (UCAT) for assessing the unhurriedness of patient-clinician consultations.
Methods: In the first two phases, the unhurried conversation dimensions were identified and transformed into an assessment tool. In the third phase, two independent raters used UCAT to evaluate the unhurriedness of 100 randomly selected consultations from 184 videos recorded for a large research trial.

A 67-year-old female underwent a computed tomography angiogram (CTA) of the head in the setting of acute, short-term memory loss. Two lobulated hyperattenuating lesions were incidentally discovered at the base of the tongue and the hyoid bone. Upon further investigation in the outpatient setting including further imaging and ultrasound-guided biopsy, the lesions were confirmed to be ectopic thyroid tissue with dual ectopy.

Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma (EMZL) is a low-grade subtype of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that can affect any mucosal tissue, most commonly the GI tract. Primary involvement of the breast, known as primary breast lymphoma (PBL), is a very rare manifestation. We report an unusual case of a 65-year-old woman with primary breast EMZL presenting as calcifications discovered during screening mammography.

Primary cardiac tumors are exceptionally rare and predominantly located in the left atrium with occasional involvement on the right side of the heart. We present the case of a 52-year-old man who presented with chest pain, leading to suspicion of acute coronary syndrome. However, further investigation revealed a right atrial tumor measuring 6.

This study examined the role that cytokines may have played in the beneficial outcomes found when outpatient individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 were transfused with COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) early in their infection. We found that the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-6 decreased significantly faster in patients treated early with CCP. Participants with COVID-19 treated with CCP later in the infection did not have the same effect.

Gastric cancer is a multifactorial disease with important genetic and environmental factors. It is the fifth most common cancer in incidence, and the fourth cause of death secondary to cancer. The incidence of early-onset gastric cancer is increasing worldwide, but clinical information on these patients has not been well established.

When our patient presented emergently to labor and delivery at 18 weeks pregnant with severe right abdominal pain, the common diagnoses (such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, etc.) were on the top of the differential. However, US and MRI revealed a rarer cause of her pain, a pedunculated fibroid.

Background: Cytokines and chemokines play a critical role in the response to infection and vaccination. We aimed to assess the longitudinal association of COVID-19 vaccination with cytokine and chemokine concentrations and trajectories among people with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Methods: In this longitudinal, prospective cohort study, blood samples were used from participants enrolled in a multi-centre randomised trial assessing the efficacy of convalescent plasma therapy for ambulatory COVID-19.

Appendiceal cancers (AC) are a rare and heterogeneous group of malignancies. Historically, appendiceal neoplasms have been grouped with colorectal cancers (CRC), and treatment strategies have been modeled after CRC management guidelines due to their structural similarities and anatomical proximity. However, the two have marked differences in biological behavior and treatment response, and evidence suggests significant discrepancies in their respective genetic profiles.

Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) is a rare genetic disorder that affects multiple organ systems and is characterized by distinctive facial features, growth retardation, and developmental disabilities. The syndrome is caused by mutations in genes (, , , , and ) involved in the cohesin complex, which plays a critical role in chromosome segregation and gene expression regulation. Clinical findings typically include dysmorphic facial features (arched eyebrows, synophrys, long eyelashes, ptosis, long philtrum, thin upper lip, and posteriorly rotated ears), growth and mental retardation, upper limb defects (clinodactyly and limb deficiencies), gastrointestinal complications (gastroesophageal reflux, pyloric stenosis, diaphragmatic hernia, malrotation, and volvulus), and heart defects (ventricular and atrial septal defects).

Aims: Little is known regarding the association of multiple social risk factors and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
Methods: We analyzed the 2007-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys including 10,439 women aged ≥20 years (8 % with history of GDM). We created a cumulative social risk score (CSR) by adding scores assigned to each of the following: race/ethnicity, citizenship status and country of birth, education, and family income (score of 0 used as reference group).

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), a significant breakthrough treatment of cancer, exert their function through enhancing the immune system's ability to recognize and attack cancer cells. However, these revolutionary cancer treatments have been associated with a range of immune-related adverse effects, including cardiovascular toxicity. The most commonly reported cardiovascular toxicities associated with ICIs are myocarditis, pericarditis, arrhythmias, and vasculitis.
