Assessing widening disparities in HbA1c and systolic blood pressure retesting during the COVID-19 pandemic in an LGBTQ+-focused federally qualified health center in Chicago: a retrospective cohort study using electronic health records.

Introduction: To assess disparities in retesting for glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and systolic blood pressure (SBP) among people with diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension (HTN), respectively, we analyzed medical records from a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer-specialized federally qualified health center with multiple sites in Chicago.

Research Design And Methods: We identified people with DM seen in 2018 and 2019 then assessed if individuals had HbA1c retested the following year (2019 and 2020). We repeated this using SBP for people with HTN.

One-Year Change in Walking Performance and Subsequent Mobility Loss and Mortality Rates in Peripheral Artery Disease: Longitudinal Data From the WALCS.

Background Associations of 1-year change in functional performance measures with subsequent mobility loss and mortality in people with lower extremity peripheral artery disease are unknown. Methods and Results Six-minute walk and 4-meter walking velocity (usual and fastest pace) were measured at baseline and 1 year later in 612 people with peripheral artery disease (mean age 71±9 years, 37% women). Participants were categorized into tertiles, based on 1-year changes in walking measures.

Objectives: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have a reduced life expectancy due to increased cardiovascular disease. The lack of a suitable animal model resembling both RA and atherosclerosis has hindered studies demonstrating a direct link between systemic inflammation in RA and the development of atherosclerosis. Our objective was to overcome this barrier by generating an animal model (K/BxA(g7)) that spontaneously develops both RA-like disease and atherosclerosis.

Platelet-activating factor (PAF), an endogenous proinflammatory phospholipid, when injected intravascularly to rats and mice, causes shock, acute bowel injury, and a rapid activation of NF-kappaB p50-p50 with upregulation of the chemokine CXCL2 in the intestine. In this study, we investigate the mechanism of NF-kappaB activation and the role of the NF-kappaB p50 subunit in PAF-induced shock and acute bowel injury. NF-kappaB p50-deficient mice and wild-type mice were anesthetized and tracheotomized, and their carotid artery was cannulated for blood pressure monitoring, blood sampling, and PAF administration.
