Pulmonary artery (PA) flow analysis is crucial for understanding the progression of pulmonary hypertension (PH). We hypothesized that PA flow characteristics vary according to PH etiology. In this study, we used 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) to compare PA flow velocity and wall shear stress (WSS) between patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and those with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and pulmonary hypertension (PH-HFpEF).

Background: Available evidence supports the importance of inflammation in atrial fibrillation (AF) pathogenesis, yet general anti-inflammatory therapies have failed to show benefit for prevention of the arrhythmia. Better understanding of the specific inflammatory pathways involved is necessary to advance therapeutics.
Methods And Results: We evaluated 9 circulating markers of inflammation measured by immunoassays and incidence of AF in a population-based older cohort.

Background: Accidental tracheostomy decannulation (ATD) is a life-threatening event in pediatric patients. The factors associated with ATD in children are largely unknown. Utilizing the National Surgical Quality Improvement Pediatric (NSQIP-P) dataset, we sought to identify the incidence of ATD and associated factors.

Therefore, our objective was to develop a workflow that allows examination of the innervation of the intact mouse knee joint in 3D by employing clearing-enabled light sheet microscopy. We first surveyed existing clearing protocols (SUMIC, PEGASOS, and DISCO) to determine their ability to clear the whole mouse knee joint, and discovered that a DISCO protocol provided the optimal transparency for light sheet microscopy imaging.

Background: Seven million lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adults will be aged >50 years by 2030; assessing and addressing their risk for cardiovascular disease is critical.
Methods And Results: We analyzed a nationwide cohort using the Veterans Health Administration data. Sexual orientation (SO) was classified via a validated natural language processing algorithm.

Ototoxicity is an often-underestimated sequela for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, with an incidence rate exceeding 50%, affecting approximately 4 million individuals worldwide each year. Despite the nearly 2,000 publications on chemotherapy-related ototoxicity in the past decade, the understanding of its prevalence, mechanisms, and preventative or therapeutic measures remains ambiguous and subject to debate. To date, only one drug, sodium thiosulfate, has gained FDA approval for treating ototoxicity in chemotherapy.

Objective: To synthesize the methodologies of studies that evaluate the impacts of heat exposure on morbidity and mortality.
Methods: Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched from date of inception until 1 March 2023 for English language literature on heat exposure and health outcomes. Records were collated, deduplicated and screened, and full texts were reviewed for inclusion and data abstraction.

Objective: Heliox, a mixture of helium and oxygen, has been shown to improve laminar airflow and decrease airway resistance in children. This study aims to describe the outcomes of heliox use in children with respiratory compromise and to identify variables associated with a need for airway surgical intervention.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients who received heliox between 2012 and 2022 at a tertiary care children's hospital.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the association of dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) with clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa, Gleason Grade Group ≥2) and compare biparametric magnetic resonance imaging (bpMRI) and multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) nomograms.
Subjects/patients And Methods: We identified a retrospective cohort of biopsy naïve patients who underwent pre-biopsy MRI separated by individual MRI series from 2018 to 2022. csPCa detection rates were calculated for patients with peripheral zone (PZ) lesions scored 3-5 on diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) with available DCE (annotated as - or +).

Background: Sepsis is a leading cause of neonatal mortality, despite the availability of effective treatment of possible serious bacterial illness (PSBI), including when referral to a hospital is not feasible. Gaps in access and delivery worsened during COVID-19. We conducted embedded implementation research in Ethiopia and Kenya aimed at mitigating the impact of COVID-19 and addressing various implementation challenges to improve PSBI management.

Background: The combination of bazedoxifene 20 mg (BZA) and conjugated estrogens 0.45 mg (CE) marketed as Duavee® is approved for vasomotor symptom relief and osteoporosis prevention. Our pilot study suggested it had potential breast cancer risk reduction, and we proposed a multisite Phase IIB primary prevention trial assessing change in breast imaging and tissue risk biomarkers.

Background: Observational and retrospective studies suggest that people with narcolepsy may have an increased prevalence of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic comorbidities and may be at greater risk for future cardiovascular events. An expert consensus panel was formed to establish agreement on the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular/cardiometabolic disease in people with narcolepsy and to develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
Methods And Results: Experts in sleep medicine and cardiology were selected to participate in the panel.
Introduction: The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare has exposed the unmet need for growing a multidisciplinary workforce that can collaborate effectively in the learning health systems. Maximizing the synergy among multiple teams is critical for Collaborative AI in Healthcare.
Methods: We have developed a series of data, tools, and educational resources for cultivating the next generation of multidisciplinary workforce for Collaborative AI in Healthcare.

Background: Global emergency medicine (GEM) is situated at the intersection of global health and emergency medicine (EM), which is built upon a history of colonial systems and institutions that continue to reinforce inequities between high-income countries (HICs) and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) today. These power imbalances yield disparities in GEM practice, research, and education.
Approach: The Global Emergency Medicine Academy (GEMA) of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine formed the Decolonizing GEM Working Group in 2020, which now includes over 100 worldwide members.

Background: Many cardiomyopathy-associated pathogenic variants are heterozygous truncations, and pathogenic variants are associated with arrhythmias. Arrhythmia triggers in filaminopathy are incompletely understood.
Methods And Results: We describe an individual with biallelic pathogenic variants, p.
Background: Although moderate endurance exercise has been reported to improve cardiovascular health, its effects on cardiac structure and function are not fully characterized, especially with respect to sexual dimorphism. We aimed to assess the effects of moderate endurance exercise on cardiac physiology in male versus female mice.
Methods And Results: C57BL/6J mice of both sexes were run on a treadmill for 6 weeks.
