Context.—: The characteristic molecular signature for both atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma and dedifferentiated liposarcoma is amplified sequences derived from chromosome 12q13-15, including MDM2 proto-oncogene (MDM2). As the progression of atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma to the more aggressive dedifferentiated liposarcoma has the potential to adversely affect patient outcomes, the extent of the latter component might be important to evaluate.

Background: Hydroxyurea therapy is effective for reducing complications related to sickle cell disease (SCD) and is recommended by National Health Lung and Blood Institute care guidelines. However, hydroxyurea is underutilized, and adherence is suboptimal. We wanted to test a multilevel mobile health (mHealth) intervention to increase hydroxyurea adherence among patients and improve prescribing among providers in a multicenter clinical trial.

August 2021

Division of Transplant Surgery, Department of Surgery, Mayo Clinic Arizona, Alix School of Medicine, Phoenix, Arizona.

Biliary strictures can be a challenging clinical problem to manage and often have unclear etiologies, including benign and malignant causes. Left untreated, these problems can lead to significant morbidity and mortality linked to their underlying diagnosis. The approach to adult patients with biliary strictures requires a multidisciplinary team involving surgeons, interventional endoscopists, and interventional radiologists for diagnosis, symptom relief, palliation, as well as potential curative management.

Pediatr Transplant

February 2019

Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology Oncology, Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois.

Thrombosis after kidney transplantation may result in catastrophic outcomes, including graft loss. Thrombophilia has been implicated in post-transplant thrombosis; data, however, are inconclusive on the impact of acquired and inherited thrombophilia and resultant thrombosis in renal graft recipients. We aimed to evaluate whether identifying children with thrombophilia during the pretransplant evaluation predicted post-transplant outcomes.
