An ultra-sensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor for amyloid-beta 40 (Aβ40), a biomarker for Alzheimer's disease (AD), was developed using g-C₃N₄ modified with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) to form Au-C₃N₄. This was further combined with TiO₂ to create a tightly bonded TiO₂/Au-C₃N₄ heterojunction, leading to a highly responsive photocatalytic process. Furthermore, the incorporation of noble metal Au NPs not only enhances photocurrent generation but also securely immobilizes the aptamer through Au-S bonds, providing additional surface binding sites.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a prevalent inflammatory bowel disease, and conventional treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medications and surgery, often prove inadequate due to frequent recurrences and various complications. To alleviate patient suffering, there is an urgent need for a therapeutic system that specifically delivers drugs to the colon for wound healing, inflammation relief, and restoration of microbial homeostasis. In this paper, we developed a Tremella polysaccharide drug-carrying hydrogel that adheres to the inflamed colonic mucosa, forming an effective artificial barrier and releasing the drug in situ to restore local immune and microbial balance.

Acetolactate synthase (ALS) is an essential enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of platform chemicals acetoin and 2,3-butanediol in several microorganisms. In this study, we investigated the catalytic differences among three bacterial ALSs involved in the ligation of two molecules of pyruvate or 2-ketobutyrate. Based on the findings, we predicted three amino acid residues in each enzyme that caused a discrepancy in accordance with the multi-sequence alignment and molecular docking experiments: I398, A402, and T480 in Bacillus subtilis ALS; V400, Y404, and S482 in Listeria seleigeri serovar 1/2b ALS; and M394, H398, and G476 in Klebsiella pneumoniae ALS.

Straightforward genotyping can provide timely diagnostic information for diseases prevention and treatment. Taking advantages of speediness and convenience, although numerous genotyping strategies combined loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and lateral flow have been reported to satisfy the demand of point-of-care test, the false positive result caused by aerosol and primer dimer as an innate conflict seriously limits their practical application. In this study, both aerosol and primer dimer as extrinsic and intrinsic inducements respectively are first broken through at one stroke based on an integrated immunochromatographic biosensor.

Our previous studies identified PA5407 in Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a new regulatory protein for bacterial division and named it ZapAL. This protein enhances the assembly of the key bacterial division protein FtsZ and participates in the assembly of the bacterial Z-ring, but its physiological function is not clear. ZapAL is in the same gene cluster as PA5402-5406, and in this study, we found that these genes are involved in the regulation of bacterial growth under nutrient deficiency and high-density conditions.

Accurate quantification of cisplatin (cDDP) in body fluids (blood, urine, and ascites) is crucial in monitoring therapeutic processes, assessing drug metabolism, and optimizing treatment schedules for cancer patients. Nonetheless, due to the inherent fluorescence and complexity of the body fluid matrix, along with the low cDDP concentrations in these fluids during treatment, using fluorescent sensors for fluid detection remains a subject of ongoing research. Herein, a series of water-soluble cDDP-activatable fluorescent sensors was rationally constructed by introducing thioether groups to the xanthene skeleton based on the chalcogenophilicity of platinum.
