Stem cells are of great importance in the maintenance and regeneration of tissues, with Forkhead box O (FoxO) proteins emerging as pivotal regulators of their functions. However, the precise impact of FoxO proteins on stem cell behavior within regenerative environments remains ambiguous. Planarians, renowned for their abundance of adult stem cells (neoblasts), serve as an excellent model for investigating the dynamics of stem cells during regeneration.

Crustal thickness and elevation variations control mountain building and climate change at convergent margins. As an archetypal Andean-type convergent margin, eastern Asia preserves voluminous magmas ideal for quantifying these processes and their impacts on climate. Here, we use Sr/Y and Ce/Y proxies to show that the crust experienced alternating thickening and thinning during the Late Mesozoic.

Purpose: This mixed-methods study examined how differences in parental time, knowledge, and economic constraints, as well as community socioeconomic contexts, may contribute to differences in home language environment and child language ability outcomes between peri-urban and rural households in China.
Method: We conducted an explanatory sequential mixed-methods analysis using data from 158 children aged 18-24 months among peri-urban and rural households with low socioeconomic status (SES) in southwestern China. Audio recordings were collected from each household and analyzed using the Language ENvironment Analysis system.

Nonlinear multimode imaging is a versatile tool to realize complex structural and compositional information of biological samples. In this study, we presented a novel integrated multimode nonlinear optical microscopy system by using an Er3 + -doped femtosecond fiber laser. The system could perform second harmonic generation (SHG), third harmonic generation (THG), and three-photon fluorescence (3PEF) imaging modes simultaneously.

Efficient separation of acetylene (CH) from carbon dioxide (CO) and ethylene (CH) is a significant challenge in the petrochemical industry due to their similar physicochemical properties. Pore space partition (PSP) has shown promise in enhancing gas adsorption capacity and selectivity by reducing pore size and increasing the density of guest binding sites. Herein, we firstly employ the 2D→3D polycatenation strategy to construct a PSP metal-organic framework (MOF) Ni-dcpp-bpy, incorporating functional N/O sites to enhance CH purification.

Poor O tolerance and high reaction temperature of the conventional oxygen carriers challenge the direct utilization of impure CO via chemical looping. Here, Pt-Ni bimetallic Ce-based oxygen carriers with excellent O tolerance are developed for highly efficient reduction of O-containing CO at low temperatures. At a temperature as low as 700 °C, high CO conversion (≈92%) is obtained over 0.

The issue of soil salinization is a global concern that significantly impairs crop productivity, quality, and distribution. Tonoplast Dicarboxylate Transporter (TDT) is a pivotal malic acid transporter localized on the vacuolar membrane, involving in maintaining intracellular pH homeostasis in plants. However, the molecular mechanisms and regulatory pathways underlying plant salt tolerance through TDT remain elusive.

Introduction: The binding of the spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2 to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a critical stage in the process of infection. While previous studies indicated that the S protein and ACE2 are extensively glycosylated, the functions of glycans in their interactions remain uncertain.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the glycan receptors of SARS-CoV-2 and evaluate the inhibitory effects of galactosylated glycoproteins derived from bovine milk on the attachment of SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus.

A novel multiscale model is formulated to examine the co-evolution among behavioral dynamics, disease transmission dynamics and viral dynamics, in which perceived risk act as a bridge for realizing the bidirectional coupling of between-host dynamics and within-host dynamics. The model is validated by real data and exhibits rich dynamic behaviors including the periodic oscillations of the solutions, the discordance of transmission dynamics and viral dynamics. It is observed that new infections may increase with improving treatment efficacy, which may reveal the hidden mechanisms why it is hard to eliminate HIV/AIDS infection only with the strategy of treatment.

Direct formic acid fuel cell (DFAFC) is an efficient power generation device, due to its high energy density, low fuel crossover and low emission. However, the anodic reaction of DFAFC, formic acid oxidation (FAOR), inevitably proceeds through an indirect pathway, adsorbing carbon monoxide intermediate (CO), resulting in a rapid decline of activity for FAOR. Therefore, effectively removing CO is the key to the development of DFAFC.

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) poses a significant kinetic challenge for various critical energy conversion and storage technologies including electrocatalytic water splitting and metal-air batteries. In this study, a LaCoO/NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) catalyst was synthesized through the growth of n-type NiFe LDH on the surface of the p-type LaCoO semiconductor, resulting in a p-n heterostructure for a photogenerated carrier-assisted electrocatalytic OER (PCA-eOER). The alignment of their band structures facilitates the formation of an internal electric field at the heterojunction interface, which promotes the creation of oxygen vacancies and enhances electron transport.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive malignant tumor of the central nervous system, characterized by high morbidity and invasive potential, necessitating urgent development of novel therapeutic strategies. Studies have shown that colony stimulating factor-1 receptor (CSF1R) is abnormally expressed in a variety of solid tumors, which is closely related to the development of tumor cells. In this study, the CSF1R/cell membrane Chromatographic model was successfully constructed, and was used to screen active compounds targeting CSF1R from more than 60 compounds.

Type III collagen, a fundamental constituent of the extracellular matrix (ECM), is extensively utilized across the biomedicine, tissue engineering, and cosmetic industries because of its exceptional biocompatibility and biodegradability. Despite its widespread application, traditional methods of collagen production are often hindered by the limit yield, potential immunogenicity, and batch-to-batch variability. In the present study, we describe a synthetic biological approach for expressing full-length recombinant type III collagen (RCIII) in the Komagataella phaffii system.

Many of the complex behaviours of humans involve the production of nonadjacent dependencies between sequence elements, which in part can be generated through the hierarchical organization of sequences. To understand how these structural properties of human behaviours evolved, we can gain valuable insight from studying the sequential behaviours of nonhuman animals. Among the behaviours of nonhuman apes, tool use has been hypothesised to be a domain of behaviour which likely involves hierarchical organization, and may therefore possess nonadjacent dependencies between sequential actions.
