Anion-coordination-driven single-double helix switching and chiroptical molecular switching based on oligoureas.

Chem Sci

May 2022

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecule Chemistry of the Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Northwest University Xi'an 710069 China.

Synthetic foldamers with helical conformation are widely seen, but controllable interconversion amongst different geometries (helical structure and sense) is challenging. Here, a family of oligourea (tetra-, penta-, and hexa-) ligands bearing stereocenters at both ends are designed and shown to switch between single and double helices with concomitant inversion of helical senses upon anion coordination. The tetraurea ligand forms a right-handed single helix upon chloride anion (Cl) binding and is converted into a left-handed double helix when phosphate anion (PO ) is coordinated.

RSC Adv

December 2021

Earth Engineering Center, Center for Advanced Materials for Energy and Environment, Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University New York NY 10027 USA

Aluminum-air batteries are promising electronic power sources because of their low cost and high energy density. However, traditional aluminum-air batteries are greatly restricted from being used in the field of flexible electronics due to the rigid battery structure, and the irreversible corrosion of the anode by the alkaline electrolyte, which greatly reduces the battery life. To address these issues, a three-dimensional dual-network interpenetrating structure PVA/LiCl/PEO composite gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) is proposed.

To develop an efficient solid acid catalysts for the Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction, especially for involving bulky molecules, the direct synthesis of hierarchical nanocrystalline β zeolites were achieved by using amphiphilic organosilane ([(CHO)SiCHN(CH)CH]Cl, TPOAC) as collaborative structure-directing agent (SDA). The growth evolution of β crystals and the influence of TPOAC/SiO molar ratio on the mesoporous structure, crystal size, and acidic properties of β zeolites were investigated and discussed in detail. The characterization results reveal that intracrystalline mesopores and intercrystalline mesopores/macropores the stacking of β nanocrystals were generated over the hierarchical β zeolites.

The cobalt tetraazamacrocyclic [Co(NH)Cl] complex is becoming a popular and versatile catalyst for the electrocatalytic evolution of hydrogen, because of its stability and superior activity in aqueous conditions. We present here a benchmarking of its performances based on the thorough analysis of cyclic voltammograms recorded under various catalytic regimes in non-aqueous conditions allowing control of the proton concentration. This allowed a detailed mechanism to be proposed with quantitative determination of the rate-constants for the various protonation steps, as well as identification of the amine function of the tetraazamacrocyclic ligand to act as a proton relay during H evolution.

Organocatalytic cycloaddition-elimination cascade for atroposelective construction of heterobiaryls.

Chem Sci

November 2021

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecule of the Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry & Materials Science, Northwest University Xi'an 710102 P. R. China

The first chiral phosphoric acid (CPA) catalyzed cycloaddition-elimination cascade reaction of 2-naphthol- and phenol-derived enecarbamates with azonaphthalenes has been established, providing a highly atroposelective route to an array of axially chiral aryl-C3-benzoindoles in excellent yields with excellent enantioselectivities. The success of this strategy derives from the stepwise process involving CPA-catalyzed asymmetric formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition and subsequent central-to-axial chirality conversion by elimination of a carbamate. In addition, the practicality of this reaction had been verified by varieties of transformations towards functionalized atropisomers.

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecule of the Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Northwest University Xi'an 710127 China

Diagnosing aging for preventative intervention generally relies on the tracking of aging biomarkers in the resting state. However, the static marker levels are insufficient to fully evaluate aging, particularly given that the stress response capacity (SRC) decay is currently viewed as a critical feature of aging. Therefore, we have developed a dual-channel fluorescent probe capable of the logic-based visualization of thiophenol (stressor) and HOCl (thiophenol-activated stress response product) , which provides a new strategy from the time dimension to precisely assess the SRC of individuals under stress using the dual-channel fluorescence ratio.
