Introduction: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a significant concern following orthopedic procedures, necessitating effective prophylactic measures. The rates of VTE prophylaxis, however, vary widely between institutions and nations, falling between 13% and 70% on average. In the absence of adequate thromboprophylaxis, pulmonary embolism, which accounts for 5% to 10% of mortality in hospitalized patients, is one of the leading causes of death.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a single gene blood disorder characterised by frequent episodes of pain, chronic anaemic, acute chest syndrome, severe disease complications and lifelong debilitating multi-system organ damage. Genetic testing and screening programs for SCD and the sickle cell trait (SCT) are valuable for early diagnosis and management of children living with SCD, and in the identification of carriers of SCT. People with SCT are for the most part asymptomatic and mainly identified as through genetic testing or when they have a child with SCD.

Effect of different acupuncture sequences of acupoints on blood glucose and hemorheology in the anesthetized rabbits.

Background And Objective: Hemorheology and blood glucose are commonly used to estimate the risks of thrombosis and stress hyperglycemia after anaesthesia. The influence of the merger process between two tertiary hospitals in Romania on job satisfaction among staff.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of the merger process of two tertiary hospitals located in the northwest of Romania on the professional satisfaction among medical and non-medical staff and to develop a standardized satisfaction questionnaire for romanian hospitals.

Methods: 1750 questionnaires distributed within County Clinical Emergency Hospital Bihor (CCEHBh) ten months and one year and four months after the merger process were analyzed.

Survival nomogram for patients with metastatic breast cancer based on the SEER database and an external validation cohort.

Background: On average, 5-10% of patients are diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) at the initial diagnosis. This study aimed to develop a nomogram to predict the overall survival (OS) in these patients.

As a series of our previous studies reported, recombinant yeast can be the oral vaccines to deliver designed protein and DNA, as well as functional shRNA, into dendritic cells (DCs) in mice for specific immune regulation. Here, we report the further optimization of oral yeast-based vaccine from two aspects (yeast characteristics and recombinant DNA constitution) to improve the effect of immune regulation. After screening four genes in negative regulation of glucan synthesis in yeast (MNN9, GUP1, PBS2 and EXG1), this research combined HDR-based genome editing technology with Cre-loxP technology to acquire 15 gene-knockout strains without drug resistance-gene to exclude biosafety risks; afterward, oral feeding experiments were performed on the mice using 15 oral recombinant yeast-based vaccines constructed by the gene-knockout strains harboring pCMV-MSTN plasmid to screen the target strain with more effective inducing mstn-specific antibody which in turn increasing weight gain effect.

Identifying important microbial biomarkers for the diagnosis of colon cancer using a random forest approach.

Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers, with 30-50 % of patients returning or metastasizing within 5 years of treatment. Increasingly, researchers have highlighted the influence of microbes on cancer malignant activity, while no studies have explored the relationship between colon cancer and the microbes in tumors. Here, we used tissue and blood samples from 67 colon cancer patients to identify pathogenic microorganisms associated with the diagnosis and prediction of colon cancer and evaluate the predictive performance of each pathogenic marker and its combination based on the next-generation sequencing data by using random forest algorithms.

To address this gap, we develop a novel biophysical model MHE-AWD-NCM, encompassing the communication dynamics between a cortical neuron population (CNP) and an astrocyte population (AP), aimed at investigating the relationship between alpha wave disturbance (AWD) and mechanistical principles, specifically concerning astrocyte-neuronal communication in the context of MHE.
