Fruits are an important source of a healthy diet due to their essential nutrients for daily intake. Melon is known as a significant fruit crop of the Cucurbitaceae family based on its various dietary benefits, but its shelf life needs to be maintained for long-term usage. 1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) is a cyclopropene-derived synthetic plant growth regulator (PGR) that is used for significantly delaying the ripening process and maintaining the shelf life of climacteric fruits during storage.

'Beta' ( × ) is a vine fruit tree of the genus Vitis which is a cross between American and riparian grapes. In the current situation of grape production in northern regions, cold, drought, and salinity are important bottlenecks restricting its development, while some grape rootstocks with excellent traits show the disadvantage of poor resilience. 'Beta' ( × ), one of the most extensively utilized rootstocks in viticulture, has demonstrated remarkable resilience to adverse conditions.

Nitrogen (N) is the most important fertilizer for increasing crop production, as it is absorbed by various N transporters and metabolized by a series of enzymes. Aspartate aminotransferase (ASP) facilitates the conversion of Glu to Asp for N storage. Chinese cabbage is a typical leafy vegetable that requires a large amount of N for growth.

Min pigs, a prominent local breed from Northeast China, have diverged into two distinct breeds, Ermin (EM) pigs and Hebao (HB) pigs, through prolonged natural and artificial selection. Although these two breeds exhibit distinct differences in body size, the genetic mechanisms underlying this variation remain poorly understood. In this study, we performed whole-genome resequencing and transcriptome analysis on EM and HB pigs to elucidate the genetic basis of body size variation in Min pigs through genome-wide selection signal analysis and the identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs).

Zearalenone (ZEA) is a kind of mycotoxin that widely contaminates food and feed and poses a threat to poultry farming. As a natural extract, glycyrrhizin acid (GA) has antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects. Although studies have revealed the toxic effects of ZEA on the liver, the mechanism by which GA reduces ZEA's toxic protective glandular stomach remains unclear.

The development of rural digitalization has become a key driving force for promoting green agricultural production. However, in practical operations, due to the insufficient digital skills and lack of necessary digital human capital among farmers, they struggle to distinguish between green production methods and traditional practices, which in turn reduces their willingness to adopt green production. This study employed empirical research methods to collect data from 854 farmers in China's largest grain-producing region and used the Probit model to analyze the impact of digital human capital on farmers' willingness to engage in green production.

The growth and development of animals are dynamic processes characterized by fluctuations. Min pigs, a local breed renowned for their superior meat quality, present an intriguing yet poorly understood relationship between this quality and their growth and development patterns. To elucidate this relationship, we employed a multi-faceted approach that included comparative transcriptomics, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), selection pressure analysis of key genes, and three-dimensional protein structure simulations.

Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), which is widely used in agricultural plastics, accumulates in humans and animals through the food chain over time, resulting in liver toxicity. Recent studies have reported that pyroptosis and mitochondrial damage are closely related to a variety of liver diseases, but the specific mechanism is still unclear. To address this issue, in vitro and in vivo hepatotoxicity models were established.

The purpose of this study was to explore whether music can reduce stress in animals by regulating the activity of the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal cortex (HPA) axis and reducing the concentration of cortisol. The control group was not played with any music or mechanical noise, the music group played music before and during transport, and the noise group played noise before and during transport as a positive control. The results showed that after two-hours of transportation, the concentrations of adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol in the music group were lower than that in the control and the noise groups, while the cortisol level in the noise group was higher than that in the music and the control groups.

A self-amplifying NO-HS loop mediates melatonin-induced CBF-responsive pathway and cold tolerance in watermelon.

February 2025

State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Biology for Arid Areas, College of Horticulture, Northwest A&F University, Yangling, 712100, Shaanxi, China.

Melatonin is a pivotal bioactive molecule that enhances plant cold stress tolerance, but the precise mechanisms remain enigmatic. Here, we have discovered that overexpressing melatonin biosynthetic gene ClCOMT1 or applying exogenous melatonin activates the C-repeat binding factor (CBF)-responsive pathway and enhances watermelon cold tolerance. This enhancement is accompanied by elevated levels of nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen sulfide (HS), along with upregulation of nitrate reductase 1 (ClNR1) and L-cysteine desulfhydrase (ClLCD) genes involved in NO and HS generation respectively.

One-Pot Synthesis of Hydrophobic Porphyrin Zirconium-Based MOFs for the Photoreduction of CO to Formate.

Inorg Chem

March 2025

College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Resource Utilization, Northeast Forestry University, No. 26 Hexing Road, Harbin 150040, China.

Using zirconium tetrachloride as a metal source and tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin as a ligand and by in situ introducing octadecylphosphonic acid (OPA), three hydrophobic porphyrin zirconium metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different structural topologies were constructed, where these MOFs are labeled as OPA@PCN-222, OPA@PCN-223, and OPA@PCN-224. Compared with the original Zr-MOFs without the modification of OPA, the modified porphyrin Zr-MOFs show excellent hydrophobic properties and can maintain excellent stability in a long-term humidity environment. Meanwhile, OPA@PCN-222, OPA@PCN-223, and OPA@PCN-224 exhibit wide absorption of visible light and steadfast and expeditious photocurrent response by leveraging the properties of porphyrin ligands.
