Vascular stents and stem cells have been used in high-acuity cases for many decades, particularly in cardiology. Providing the physician with another avenue of treatment, they have had a reasonable amount of success. However, there has been very little research conducted on seeding vascular stents with stem cells when treating intracranial aneurysms.

Background: Catheter-directed interventions (CDIs) for pulmonary embolism (PE) continue to evolve. However, due to the paucity of data, their use has been limited in patients with underlying kidney disease.
Methods: The National Readmission Database (2016-2020) was utilized to identify intermediate to high-risk PE (IHR-PE) patients requiring CDI (thrombectomy, thrombolysis, and ultrasound-assisted thrombolysis).

The guidelines from the European and American Societies for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy discourage endoscopic retrieval of drug bags in body stuffers. However, recent evidence challenges this stance, demonstrating successful bag retrieval without fatal outcomes. We present two distinct cases illustrating varying outcomes of intervention.

Leaflet thrombosis after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) presents a significant challenge, leading to adverse clinical outcomes. Subclinical leaflet thrombosis (SLT) is increasingly recognized, and there is a growing concern about its role in clinical events and hemodynamic valve deterioration. Current recommendations for prophylactic anticoagulation or antiplatelet therapy following TAVR are primarily based on expert consensus rather than definitive evidence from randomized trials, resulting in a variety of antithrombotic strategies in clinical practice.

This report describes a medial calcar episiotomy with partial anterior transfemoral osteotomy of the proximal femur to aid in removal of a femoral component in setting of revision total hip arthroplasty through a direct anterior approach. Revision total hip arthroplasty is challenging, labor-intensive, and carries high complication rates. Previously described techniques such as extended trochanteric osteotomies can be utilized to facilitate removal of fixed femoral stems.

Introduction: Proactive esophageal cooling reduces injury during radiofrequency (RF) ablation of the left atrium (LA) for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). New catheters are capable of higher wattage settings up to 90 W (very high-power short duration, vHPSD) for 4 s. Varying power and duration, however, does not eliminate the risk of thermal injury.

Background: Hernia repairs are one of the most common general surgery procedures and an essential part of training for general surgery residents. The widespread incorporation of robotic hernia repairs warrants the development of a procedure-specific robotic curriculum to assist novice surgeons in improving technical skills.
Objective: To evaluate a robotic hernia simulation-based curriculum for general surgery residents using video review.

Study Design: A prospective cohort study of postpartum patients with a diagnosis of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy at the University of Chicago between October 2021 and April 2022. All patients received remote patient monitoring as routine care but consented separately for the use of their data.

Introduction: ONWARDS 5 evaluated the effectiveness and safety of insulin icodec (icodec) titrated with a dosing guide app (icodec with app) versus once-daily insulin analogs in insulin-naive adults with type 2 diabetes. The insulin glargine U300 (glargine U300) stratum was too small to enable a robust post hoc efficacy comparison. Augmentation methodology was applied to increase the glargine U300 group size using real-world data (RWD), to facilitate efficacy comparisons of icodec with app versus glargine U300, and to demonstrate the potential of the augmentation methodology to strengthen underpowered treatment comparisons (AUGMENT study).

Objective: To evaluate whether Covid-19 related workflow changes to a clinically-integrated breastfeeding peer counseling (ci-BPC) program were associated with poorer breastfeeding outcomes for Medicaid-enrolled patients.
Methods: This retrospective chart review included patients who received ci-BPC care during January 2017-March 2020 ("Pre-Pandemic," N = 318); March 2020-September 2020 ("During-Peak," N = 53); and September 2020-May 2021 ("Post-Peak," N = 97). ANOVA evaluated differences in encounter type frequencies for each time point, as well as differences in breastfeeding initiation, exclusivity during inpatient admission, and continuation of breastfeeding at least 6 weeks post-delivery.

Templating prior to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can help to improve surgical efficiency and potentially improve alignment and outcomes. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the ability of computed tomography (CT)-based preoperative templating to accurately predict implant sizes. A total of 724 Stryker MAKO robotic-assisted TKA cases were retrospectively evaluated from a prospectively collected database between January 2020 and October 2023.

Traumatic craniomaxillofacial (CMF) injuries are associated with various symptoms/concerns that affect patients' quality of life. The assessment of outcomes from the patient perspective has been limited by the absence of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures tailored to this patient population. To address this need, we employed a mixed methods, multi-step process to first identify the most important symptoms/concerns and then use this information to construct a PRO symptom battery.
