Objective: To describe the self-reported needs of family caregivers of service members and veterans (SMVs) with traumatic brain injury (TBI) at 10 to 15 years post-injury and to identify unique predictors of unmet family needs.

Setting: Five Department of Veterans Affairs Polytrauma Rehabilitation Centers.

Participants: A total of 209 family caregivers of SMVs with TBI from the VA TBI Model Systems national database who completed a 10- or 15-year follow-up assessment.

Introduction: This study investigates associations between fine particulate air pollution (PM) exposure and thyroid hormone levels during pregnancy in Puerto Rican individuals, a vulnerable population facing socioeconomic and environmental disparities.

Methods: This research draws on data from the PROTECT cohort study and involves 1040 participants to measure the effect of PM on developmentally important thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, T4, and FT4). Pollution concentrations were linked to participant locations using EPA air quality data and analyzed across two visits during gestational weeks 16-20 and 24-28.

The decomposition-based multi-objective optimization algorithm MOEA/D (multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition) introduces the concept of neighborhood, where each sub-problem requires optimization through solutions within its neighborhood. Due to the comparison being only with solutions in the neighborhood, the obtained set of solutions is not sufficiently diverse, leading to poorer convergence properties. In order to adequately acquire a high-quality set of solutions, this algorithm requires a large number of population iterations, which in turn results in relatively low computational efficiency.

In the present study, the Homotopy Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm (HLMA) and the Parameter Variation Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm (PV-LMA), both developed in the context of high-temperature composition, are proposed to address the equilibrium composition model of plasma under the condition of local thermodynamic and chemical equilibrium. This model is essentially a nonlinear system of weakly singular Jacobian matrices. The model was formulated on the basis of the Saha and Guldberg-Waage equations, integrated with Dalton's law of partial pressures, stoichiometric equilibrium, and the law of conservation of charge, resulting in a nonlinear system of equations with a weakly singular Jacobian matrix.

We study a multi-body finite element model of a packing of hydrogel particles using the Flory-Rehner constitutive law to model the deformation of the swollen polymer network. We show that while the dependence of the pressure, , on the effective volume fraction, , is virtually identical to a monolithic Flory material, the shear modulus, , behaves in a non-trivial way. increases monotonically with from zero and remains below about 80% of the monolithic Flory value at the largest we study here.

Smartphones and wearable sensors offer an unprecedented ability to collect peripheral psychophysiological signals across diverse timescales, settings, populations, and modalities. However, open-source software development has yet to keep pace with rapid advancements in hardware technology and availability, creating an analytical barrier that limits the scientific usefulness of acquired data. We propose a community-driven, open-source peripheral psychophysiological signal pre-processing and analysis software framework that could advance biobehavioral health by enabling more robust, transparent, and reproducible inferences involving autonomic nervous system data.

In this work, using first-principles calculations, we predict a promising class of two-dimensional ferromagnetic semiconductors, namely Janus PrXY (X ≠ Y = Cl, Br, I) monolayers. Through first-principles calculations, we found that PrXY monolayers have excellent dynamic and thermal stability, and their band structures, influenced by magnetic exchange and spin-orbital coupling, exhibit significant valley polarization. Between and - valleys, the Berry curvature values are opposite to each other, resulting in the anomalous valley Hall effect.

Among its responses, Boston developed six low threshold harm reduction housing (HRH) sites geared towards supporting the housing needs of people who use drugs (PWUD) and addressing health and safety concerns around geographically concentrated tent encampments. HRH sites are transitional supportive housing that adhere to a "housing first" approach where abstinence is not required and harm reduction services and supports are co-located.

Gene Regulatory Networks (GRNs) are pivotal in governing diverse cellular processes, such as stress response, DNA repair, and mechanisms associated with complex diseases like cancer. In May 2021, the M/V ship fire disaster led to the largest maritime spill of resin pellets (nurdles) and burnt plastic (pyroplastic). Field samples collected from beaches in Sri Lanka nearest to the ship comprised nurdles and pieces of pyroplastic. Three years later, the toxicity of the spilled material remains unresolved.

Immigrants in the United States are at increased risk of diabetes-related complications due to delayed diagnoses compared with US-born individuals. Immigration-related federal policies may support immigration enforcement activities and restrict some immigrants' access to health insurance and other publicly funded resources. Conversely, state and county-level sanctuary policies may reduce the fear of deportation and increase mobility in the community, improving the accessibility of essential pharmacological treatment for type 2 diabetes patients.
