A systematic investigation of the decomposition of substituted 2-(2-azidostyryl)furans has been reported. The products of catalytic decomposition align with predictable patterns, consistent with established literature data. In contrast, photolysis and thermolysis lead to the formation of unexpected products.

Unlabelled: There is an increased prevalence of respiratory infections among dentists, which is associated with a heavily polluted breathing area in the dental office. Patients and dentists are at high risk of cross-infection due to the spread of aerosols in the form of droplets suspended in the air. The ultrasonic scaler is the largest source of aerosols and spatter in the dental office.

Thin nanocomposite films based on zinc oxide (ZnO) added with cobalt oxide (CoO) were synthesized by solid-phase pyrolysis. According to XRD, the films consist of a ZnO wurtzite phase and a cubic structure of CoO spinel. The crystallite sizes in the films increased from 18 nm to 24 nm with growing annealing temperature and CoO concentration.

In-situ formation of boron thin films on the Mo(110) surface, as well as the formation of the molybdenum boride and its oxide and the trends of carbon monoxide catalytic oxidation on the substrates formed, have been studied in an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) by a set of surface-sensitive characterization techniques: Auger and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (AES, XPS), low-energy ion scattering (LEIS), reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and work function measurements using the Anderson method. The boron deposited at Mo(110) via electron-beam deposition at a substrate temperature of 300 K grows as a 2D layer, at least in submonolayer coverage. Such a film is bound to the Mo(110) via polarized chemisorption bonds, dramatically changing the charge density at the substrate surface manifested by the Mo(110) surface plasmon damping.

Detection of hazardous volatile organic and inorganic species is a crucial task for addressing human safety in the chemical industry. Among these species, there are hydrogen halides (HX, X = Cl, Br, I) vastly exploited in numerous technological processes. Therefore, the development of a cost-effective, highly sensitive detector selective to any HX gas is of particular interest.

Adsorption and interaction of carbon monoxide (CO) and nitric oxide (NO) molecules on the surface of bare Al-Mo(110) system and on that obtained by its in situ oxidation have been studied in ultra-high vacuum (base pressure: ca. 10 Pa) by means of Auger and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (AES, XPS), low energy electron diffraction (LEED), reflection-absorption infrared and thermal desorption spectroscopy (RAIRS, TDS), and by the work function measurements. In order to achieve the Al-Mo(110) alloy the thin aluminum film of a few monolayers thick was in situ deposited onto the Mo(110) crystal and then annealed at 800 K.

The Greater Caucasus is a part of seismically active Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt and has been a center of significant volcanic activity during the Quaternary period. That led to the formation of the number of hydrothermal habitats, including subterranean thermal aquifers and surface hot springs. However, there are only a limited number of scientific works reporting on the microbial communities of these habitats.

The catalytic olefination reaction of 2-nitrobenzaldehydes with CFCCl afforded stereoselectively trifluoromethylated -nitrostyrenes in up to 88% yield. The reaction of these alkenes with pyrrolidine permits preparation of α-CF-β-(2-nitroaryl) enamines. Subsequent one pot reduction of nitro-group by Fe-AcOH-HO system initiated intramolecular cyclization to afford 2-CF-indoles.

Two approaches for the synthesis of substituted phosphonium salts from easily available benzyl alcohols and their heterocyclic analogs have been developed. The developed protocols are complementary: the direct mixing of alcohol, trimethylsilyl bromide, and triphenylphosphine in 1,4-dioxane followed by heating at 80 °C was found to be more efficient for acid-sensitive substrates, such as salicyl or furfuryl alcohols as well as secondary benzyl alcohols, while a procedure including sequential addition of trimethylsilyl bromide and triphenylphosphine gave higher yields for benzyl alcohols bearing electroneutral or electron-withdrawing substituents.

Formation of gold nanosized particles supported by aluminum oxide film grown on Mo(110) substrate and oxidation of carbon monoxide molecules on their surface have been in-situ studied in ultra-high vacuum by means of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS), low energy electron diffraction (LEED), atomic force microscopy (AFM), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), and work function measurements. The main focus was to follow how the thickness of the alumina film influences the efficiency of CO oxidation in an attempt to find out evidence of the possible effect of electron tunneling between the metal substrate and the Au particle through the oxide interlayer. Providing the largest degree of surface identity of the studied metal/oxide system at different thicknesses of the alumina film (two, four, six, and eight monolayers), it was found that the CO oxidation efficiency, defined as CO to CO TPD peaks intensity ratio, exponentially decays with the oxide film thickness growth.

The modern development of nanotechnology requires the discovery of simple approaches that ensure the controlled formation of functional nanostructures with a predetermined morphology. One of the simplest approaches is the self-assembly of nanostructures. The widespread implementation of self-assembly is limited by the complexity of controlled processes in a large volume where, due to the temperature, ion concentration, and other thermodynamics factors, local changes in diffusion-limited processes may occur, leading to unexpected nanostructure growth.

All-inorganic lead halide perovskites of various compositions have emerged as a prospective family of materials for light-emitting devices and photonic applications. However, a comprehensive study of their structural and electronic properties is still missing. Moreover, thin film fabrication of these perovskites comprising heterohalide anions by wet chemistry approaches also remains challenging.

Biosynthesis of Ds(+)-threo-isocitric acid from ethanol in the Yarrowia lipolytica batch and repeated-batch cultures was studied. Repeated-batch cultivation was found to provide for a good biosynthetic efficiency of the producer for as long as 748 h, probably due to maintenance of high activities of enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of isocitric acid. Under optimal repeated-batch cultivation conditions, the producer accumulated 109.

Inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite nanowires, generating laser emission in the broad spectral range at room temperature and low threshold, have become powerful tools for the cutting-edge applications in the optoelectronics and nanophotonics. However, to achieve high-quality nanowires with the outstanding optical properties, it was necessary to employ long-lasting and costly methods of their synthesis, as well as postsynthetic separation and transfer procedures that are not convenient for large-scale production. Here we report a novel approach to fabricate high-quality CsPbBr nanolasers obtained by rapid precipitation from dimethyl sulfoxide solution sprayed onto hydrophobic substrates at ambient conditions.

Separate and joint effect of Semax, ascorbic acid, lead diacetate, and ammonium molybdate on avoidance conditioning in rats was studied. It was established that the heavy metal salts inhibited the avoidance response, and the peptide counteracted this inhibition as strongly as ascorbic acid or to a comparable degree. These findings confirm the antioxidant properties of Semax.

Effects of desmopressin (arginine vasopressin V2 receptor agonist) were studied for elucidation of the possible role of the kidneys in the regulation of blood hyaluronidase activity. Similar to vasopressin, intraperitoneal administration of desmopressin to Wistar rats increased blood hyaluronidase activity by 30%. Against the background of water load, nether desmopressin nor vasopressin increased blood hyaluronidase activity.
