Background And Objectives: The palliative impact of spine surgery for metastatic disease is evolving with improvements in surgical technique and multidisciplinary cancer care. The goal of this study was to prospectively evaluate long-term clinical outcomes including health-related quality-of-life (HRQOL) measures, using spine cancer-specific patient-reported-outcome (PRO) measures, in patients with symptomatic spinal metastases who underwent surgical management.
Methods: The Epidemiology, Process, and Outcomes of Spine Oncology (EPOSO, ClinicalTrials.

Aortic stenosis and obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy are common conditions. When both are present in the same patient, the management can be challenging. We report what we believe to be the first time a cardiac myosin inhibitor has been used before transcutaneous aortic valve replacement.

Cardioneuroablation is a novel approach to treat patients with recurrent vasovagal syncope (VVS), targeting the ganglionated plexi around the atria and thus reducing the vagal input to the heart. This study reports a case of drug-refractory VVS after COVID-19 infection, successfully managed with cardioneuroablation.

Background: The outcomes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) exhibit variance contingent upon biological sex. Although female sex hormones exert neuroprotective effects, the administration of estrogen and progesterone has not yielded conclusive results. Hence, it is conceivable that additional mediators, distinct from female sex hormones, merit consideration due to their potential differential impact on TBI outcomes.

Determining if a patient will need an SICU admission would not only allow for the appropriate allocation of resources and personnel but also permit targeted clinical management of these patients with the goal of improving morbidity and mortality outcomes. The purpose of this study was to identify specific risk factors predictive of SICU admission in a population of geriatric hip fracture patients.

The necessity of immediate postoperative radiographs following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has long been debated. With the increasing use of robotic-assisted TKA (RTKA), and thus more precise implant placement, the need for immediate postoperative radiographs to determine implant positioning may be unnecessary. We sought to evaluate implant position on the immediate postoperative radiographs following RTKA to determine their necessity.

However, many commercial procedural models are either nonexistent or lacking in key elements. Simulationists often create their own novel models with minimal framework for designing, building, and validation.

Background & Aims: In patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and a history of cancer, retrospective studies have suggested that exposure to immunosuppressive agents does not increase the risk of incident (recurrent or new) cancer compared with unexposed patients. SAPPHIRE is a prospective registry aimed at addressing this issue.
Methods: Since 2016, patients with IBD and confirmed index cancer before enrollment were followed up annually.

Background And Objectives: Brainstem cavernous malformations (BCMs) are a distinct clinical entity that carry a high risk of patient morbidity because of location and risk of hemorrhage. Surgical management of these lesions requires intimate knowledge of surgical anatomy and skull base approaches. This article is intended to highlight a modern approach for the treatment of BCMs, with an emphasis on the use of the one-point technique to guide resection.

Aims Prostate cancer (PC) is a significant health concern worldwide, and early detection is crucial for effective treatment. This study aimed to investigate the role of the hemoglobin-albumin-lymphocyte-platelet (HALP) score in detecting prostate cancer in patients undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Additionally, a comprehensive analysis was performed to explore clinical parameters associated with incidentally diagnosed prostate cancer post TURP.

Ischemic colitis is the most common form of gastrointestinal ischemia 1. The diagnosis of ischemic colitis is made by clinical data and computed tomography (CT) imaging of the abdomen and pelvis 1. While colonoscopy is considered the gold standard for diagnosis, this is not performed in the emergency department (ED) 2.

Hybrid coronary revascularization (HCR) combines a minimally invasive surgical approach with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for the treatment of multivessel coronary artery disease. Despite decades of use, widespread acceptance has been limited. In this review, we conduct a comparative assessment of HCR in relation to traditional coronary artery bypass graft surgery and multivessel PCI.

Background And Objectives: Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring plays a pivotal role in modern neurosurgery, aiding in real-time assessment of eloquent neural structures to mitigate iatrogenic neural injury. This study represents the largest retrospective series to date in monitoring corticospinal tract integrity during intracranial surgery with transcranial motor-evoked potentials (TCMEPs), focusing on the influence of demographic factors, comorbidities, and preoperative motor deficits on the reliability of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring. While the impact of patient-specific factors affecting TCMEP monitoring in spine surgery is well-documented, similar insights for intracranial surgery are lacking.

Introduction: Robotic-arm-assisted unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is an excellent solution for patients suffering from single-compartment knee arthritis. While outcomes tend to be favorable for UKAs, revision operations, commonly due to component malpositioning and malalignment resulting in accelerated wear, are a major concern. Intraoperative technologies, such as robotic assistance, can help better ensure that implants are positioned based on a patient's specific anatomy and mechanical physiology.

Background And Objective: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a noninvasive clinical tool for assessment of hepatic steatosis. Multi-spectral fat-water MRI models, incorporating single or dual transverse relaxation decay rate(s) (R2*) have been proposed for accurate fat fraction (FF) estimation. However, it is still unclear whether single- or dual-R2* model accurately mimics in vivo signal decay for precise FF estimation and the impact of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on each model performance.

In this editorial, we inspect the critical role of gender diversity within the domain of pathology and its consequential impact on research innovation and clinical outcomes. The editorial commences with a historical overview of gender disparities in pathology, acknowledging advancements toward gender parity while highlighting persistent impediments to full inclusivity. The discourse emphasizes the intrinsic value of integrating diverse gender perspectives in research, illustrating how such inclusivity catalyzes innovation, mitigates research biases, and elevates the standard of patient care through a more comprehensive understanding of the field of pathology.

Background: Hepatitis C is the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide and it significantly contributes to the burden of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, there are marked variations in the incidence and mortality rates of HCC across different geographical regions. With the advent of new widely available treatment modalities, such as direct-acting antivirals, it is becoming increasingly imperative to understand the temporal and geographical trends in HCC mortality associated with Hepatitis C.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formally known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, is the most common chronic liver disease in the United States. Patients with MASLD have been reported to be at a higher risk of developing severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and death. However, most studies are single-center studies, and nationwide data in the United States is lacking.
