The long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), urothelial carcinoma-associated 1 (UCA1), belongs to cancer-related lncRNAs implicated in various carcinomas, including colorectal and gastric cancers. Nonetheless, the role and underlying mechanisms of UCA1 in retinoblastoma are still unclear. This study found that UCA1 expression in retinoblastoma tissues and cells was dramatically upregulated relative to that of healthy controls.

Calcification of the vessel wall as one structural pathology of aged vessels is associated with high cardiovascular mortality of elderly patients. Aging is linked to chronic sterile inflammation and high burden of reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to activation of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) such as Nlrp3 in vascular cells. The current study investigates the role of PRR activation in the calcification of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs).

Objective: This paper sets out to investigate the miR-205 and HMGB1 expressions in chronic periodontitis (PO) patients and their associations with the inflammatory factors.

Methods: From February 2016 to May 2018, 68 PO patients treated in our hospital were recruited for the study and placed in a patient group (PG), and 60 healthy volunteers were also recruited and placed in a healthy group (HG). Serum samples were collected from both groups for the identification of miR-205 using qPCR, as well as to determine the HMGB1 and inflammatory factor (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) expression levels using ELISA.

Objective: To evaluate the impact and effect of a refined nursing model based on nursing quality feedback on the postoperative mental state of patients with laryngeal cancer.

Methods: According to the principle of a randomized controlled trial, 102 patients undergoing laryngeal cancer surgery were divided into two groups with 51 patients in each group. The control group received a conventional nursing model, and the research group received a refined nursing model based on nursing quality feedback.

Objective: To investigate the treatment efficacy of bundles of care for the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) caused by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Methods: A total of 102 patients undergoing mechanical ventilation in the ICU of our hospital were randomly assigned into a research group (n=51, bundles of care) and a control group (n=51, routine care). The incidence of VAP, pathogenic bacteria in the sputum, outcome and medication compliance (Morisky medication adherence scale (MMAS) score) of patients as well as the hand hygiene rate of nurses were compared between the two groups.

Background: As indicated by numerous studies, there exists a relationship between the polymorphism of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy (DN) in various populations; nonetheless, the findings remain inconsistent. Therefore, we carried out a meta-analysis to determine the relationship between the MTHFR gene polymorphism and DN susceptibility.

Materials And Method: Related studies were identified from PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure database (time period: from building the library to October 2019).

In this communication, a paramagnetic bifunctional manganese(ii) chelate ([Mn(Dopa-EDTA)]) containing a catechol group is designed and synthesized. The catechol can bind iron ions on the surface of superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanocrystals to form core-shell nanoparticles. Both 4 and 7 nm SPIO@[Mn(Dopa-EDTA)] show good water solubility, single-crystal dispersion, and low cytotoxicity.
