Methods: C57BL/6N mice were treated with MPTP to establish subacute PD model. The changes of TH-, COX-2- and p-c-Jun-positive cells, and the expression levels of TH, COX-2 and p-c-Jun in the SN in the midbrain were observed with inmmunohistochemistry and Western blotting before and after administration of SP600125, a specific JNK inhibitor.

May 2007

Pharmaceutical Department, North China Coal Medical College, Tangshan Key Laboratory of New Drug Research, Tangshan 063000, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how different extracts from Curcuma long can stabilize curcumin and prevent its degradation.
  • Researchers used various solvents (like alcohol and acetone) to add to pure curcumin and analyzed its stability using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
  • The findings showed that alcohol extracts, especially 80% alcohol, significantly improved the stability of curcumin compared to its pure form.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between specific genetic variations of the mannose-binding protein (MBP) and the risk of developing pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) among patients and healthy individuals.
  • Researchers analyzed genetic mutations in the MBP gene from 125 TB cases and 198 controls, using a case-control design and advanced statistical techniques to assess risk factors.
  • Results indicated that certain MBP mutations (especially MBP-52) were more common in TB patients, suggesting a potential genetic susceptibility to the disease.

Department of Parasitology, North China Coal Medical College, Tangshan, 063000, China.

Trophozoites of Giardia lamblia were axenically cultivated with modified TYI-S-33 medium contained 500 microg/ml metronidazole (12h LC50). The morphology of drug-treated trophozoites was observed with light and electron micro-scopes at 2, 4, 8, 12 h respectively. The light microscopy revealed that the trophozoites treated with MTZ showed swollen, detached from the wall of the culture tube, and were with vacuoles in the cytoplasm.
