Application of CAD-CAM in Dentistry.

The application of CAD-CAM (Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology has become increasingly prevalent in dentistry in recent years. Dental restorations are designed and created using CAD-CAM by enhancing the precision and efficiency. Customization of dental prostheses such as crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays and bridges is possible with CAD-CAM.

A comparative evaluation of the effect of eugenol exposure time on the bond strength of an etch-and-rinse and a self-etch adhesive to dentin: An study.

Aim: The study aimed to comparatively evaluate the effect of eugenol exposure time on the micro-shear bond strength (μ-SBS) of etch-and-rinse and a self-etch adhesive to dentin.

Materials And Methods: One hundred and twelve teeth samples were prepared from bisectioning 56 freshly extracted human mandibular molars and were randomly divided into 14 subgroups of 8 samples each (n = 8). Three subgroups containing eugenol and a noneugenol-based restorative material were placed on the dentin surface and left for 24 h, 7 days, and 14 days, respectively, and were compared to a control.

Efficacy of Laser-assisted Periodontal Therapy vs. Conventional Scaling and Root Planing.

Background: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of laser-assisted periodontal therapy (LAPT) with conventional scaling and root planing (CSRP) in the treatment of periodontal disease. The objective was to assess the outcomes of these two treatments on a sample of 30 patients in each group.

Materials And Methods: In this study, a total of 60 patients diagnosed with periodontal disease were divided into two groups: the LAPT group and the CSRP group, with 30 patients in each group.

Effects of nonsurgical periodontal therapy on serum creatinine level in systemically healthy individuals with periodontitis: An interventional study.

Background: Several studies have suggested a relationship between periodontitis and serum creatinine levels. Both low and high serum creatinine levels have been reported in individuals with periodontitis. The impact of periodontal therapy on serum creatinine levels has not been fully investigated yet.

Cancer causing chewing habits and related oral lesions - A comparative study among females of socio-culturally different areas of West Bengal.

Background: Smokeless tobacco, as well as areca-nut both, causes cancerous and precancerous lesions of the oral cavity. The traditional value of India, as well as West Bengal do not allow females for smoking, but there is no such disapproval for using smokeless tobacco or areca nut. Geographically and socio-culturally, the Northern part of West Bengal differs from its Southern part.

Use of Kirschner wire for immediate interim reconstruction of continuity defect of mandible in resource poor setting: Our experience.

Background: Reconstruction of continuity defect of mandible is challenging, and there has been a lot of advancement in this field with variety of options for restoration. However, choice often becomes restricted in resource limited settings due to lack of trained manpower, time, infrastructure, supply of graft materials, etc. In this context, we aim to test the reliability of Kirschner wire (K-wire) with adaptation of looped-end for immediate interim reconstruction of continuity defect of mandible.

Complex facial degloving injury: a case report of a complication and its management.

Facial degloving injuries are due to separation between the skin and subcutaneous tissues from the underlying muscles, bones, and fascia. These injuries often create a reconstructive challenge for surgeons especially when there are associated complications like wound infection or necrosis of the avulsed flap. This case report presents management of a case of facial degloving injury with full thickness necrosis of the avulsed flap.

Differences of oral cancer in men and women of West Bengal, India.

Introduction: Oral cancer constitutes a major public health problem in South East Asia, as it causes profound social and economic consequences for people in this area. Nowadays, pattern of tobacco and alcohol use among females is changing and at the same time incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) among females is increasing.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the possible differences between male and female patients suffering from oral SCC.

Energy-dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy Analysis of Erbium, Chromium:Yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet-treated Enamel Surfaces: An Study.

Aim And Objective: The present study evaluated the effects of erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser on the weight percentage of mineral content of enamel when etched at three different power settings.

Materials And Methods: Total 20 extracted molar teeth were taken as samples. Enamel slabs were prepared by sectioning the crown from the buccal and lingual aspect with a double-sided diamond disk at slow speed.

Importance of Ki-67 Labeling in Oral Leukoplakia with Features of Dysplasia and Carcinomatous Transformation: An Observational Study over 4 Years.

 Early detection of dysplastic changes within oral potentially malignant disorders is the mainstay to prevent oral cancer. Ki-67 is one of the most useful antigens in this purpose.  The study aims were to recognize and mutually compare the proliferative status of idiopathic oral leukoplakia (OL) patches, which presented through different forms of dysplasia and carcinoma.

Smokeless tobacco use and related oral mucosal changes in Bengali Women.

Background: Tobacco use is called the single most cause of preventable cause of death all over the world. The various study confirmed that smokeless tobacco use is directly related to oral cancer and pre-cancer. The prevalence of smokeless tobacco use varies widely in different countries and states based on age group, gender, with varied socioeconomic, cultural and educational backgrounds.

Accidental trauma involving the eye may necessitate surgical removal of the eye ball. Immediate management should consider future prosthetic rehabilitation. Insertion of eye ball implant after enucleation or evisceration preserves socket anatomy, maintains sulcus and fornix which ensures proper retention of ocular prosthesis in future.

Periodontitis is a very common inflammatory oral disease. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) is a cytokine that has been involved with the gingival tissue destruction and remodeling occurrence. We investigated the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TNF-α gene promoter region with the susceptibility of aggressive and chronic periodontitis in the eastern Indian population.

Comparative evaluation of three different rotary instrumentation systems for removal of gutta-percha from root canal during endodontic retreatment: An study.

Context: Endodontic retreatment is performed in teeth with endodontic failures. The main goal of retreatment is cleaning and shaping of the root canal with removal of old root filling material. Hand instruments and rotary instruments are mainly used for removing this filling material.

Localized Gingival Overgrowths: A Report of Six Cases.

Localized gingival overgrowths are commonly encountered in our day-to-day clinical practice and often present a diagnostic dilemma to the clinicians. These lesions vary depending on the location, site, extent, histology, and/or etiopathology. Although most of the localized gingival enlargements represent the reactive lesion to plaque accumulation, the differential diagnosis ranges from peripheral fibroma to pyogenic granuloma to peripheral fibroma with ossification and/or calcification, peripheral giant cell granuloma, etc.

A study of Ki-67 expression and its clinicopathological determinants in nondysplastic oral leukoplakia.

Prevalence of Psychiatric Morbidity Among Undergraduate Students of a Dental College in West Bengal.

Background: Stresses of medical course affects the academic performance as well as physical and psychological health of the students negatively. In the present day scenario every one of us has vulnerability to have psychiatric morbidity. Like other young adults, undergraduate dental students are similarly vulnerable to turmoil due to academic and social stresses, which often hamper the educational achievement.

Prevalence of psychiatric co-morbidity among patients attending dental OPD and the role of consultation-liaison psychiatry in dental practice in a tertiary care general hospital.

Background: Psychiatric co-morbidities are frequent among patients attending dental OPD, some of which go unrecognized and hence untreated.

Aims: The present study has been carried out to detect the psychiatric co-morbidities among dental patients and determine the scope of consultation-liaison (C-L) psychiatry in a rural teaching hospital regarding comprehensive management of the patients.

Aim: The study aims to know whether modern orthodontic treatment procedure do actually cause permanent bone loss at the alveolar bone crest or improve alveolar bone morphology on labial aspect of permanent incisors which are to be moved lingually.

Settings And Design: Manual tracings of pre and post treatment lateral cephalometric radiographs were used.

Material And Method: The cephalometric radiographs of 34 adult bengali subjects whose orthodontic treatment involved lingual positioning of procumbent mandibular central incisors were examined to determine the morphologic changes (bone height) in the labial alveolar bone that resulted from orthodontic treatment.
