Objectives: Segmentectomy may be indicated for T1a-cN0 non-small-cell lung cancer. However, several patients are upstaged pT2a at final pathological examination due to visceral pleural invasion (VPI). As resection is usually not completed to lobectomy, this may raise issue of potential worse prognosis.

In previously untreated, medically fit patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), research is focused on developing fixed-duration strategies to improve long-term outcomes while sparing patients from serious toxicities. The ICLL-07 trial evaluated a fixed-duration (15-month) immunochemotherapy approach in which after obinutuzumab-ibrutinib induction for 9 months, patients (n = 10) in complete remission (CR) with bone marrow (BM) measurable residual disease (MRD) <0.01% continued only ibrutinib 420 mg/day for 6 additional months (I arm), whereas the majority (n = 115) received up to 4 cycles of fludarabine/cyclophosphamide-obinutuzumab 1000 mg alongside the ibrutinib (I-FCG arm).

Globally invariant metabolism but density-diversity mismatch in springtails.

Nat Commun

February 2023

Johann Friedrich Blumenbach Institute of Zoology and Anthropology, University of Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany.

Soil life supports the functioning and biodiversity of terrestrial ecosystems. Springtails (Collembola) are among the most abundant soil arthropods regulating soil fertility and flow of energy through above- and belowground food webs. However, the global distribution of springtail diversity and density, and how these relate to energy fluxes remains unknown.

[Waldenström disease: News and perspectives in 2022].

Bull Cancer

January 2023

AP-HP, Sorbonne université, hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière, Paris, France. Electronic address:

Waldenström's disease is a B-cell neoplasm characterized by the accumulation of lymphoplasmacytic cells (LPCs) in the bone marrow, and more rarely in the lymph nodes and the spleen, which produce a monoclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM) protein. The diagnosis requires the identification of LPCs in the bone marrow, using specific markers in flow cytometry. The MYD88L265P mutation is found in 95% of cases and the CXCR4 mutation in 30-40% of cases.

Purpose: Among Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitors, acalabrutinib has greater selectivity than ibrutinib, which we hypothesized would improve continuous therapy tolerability. We conducted an open-label, randomized, noninferiority, phase III trial comparing acalabrutinib and ibrutinib in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

Methods: Patients with previously treated CLL with centrally confirmed del(17)(p13.

Article Synopsis
  • A phase 2 study assessed the combination of obinutuzumab and idelalisib for treating patients with relapsed/refractory Waldenström macroglobulinemia, focusing on safety and efficacy without traditional chemotherapy.
  • The treatment involved an initial 6-cycle induction phase, resulting in a high overall response rate of 71.4%, with many patients showing significant improvements in their condition.
  • Although the combination was effective, some patients experienced serious side effects, leading to 26 withdrawals, and TP53 mutations were found to negatively impact survival, while CXCR4 genotypes did not affect treatment outcomes.

A prognostic index predicting survival in transformed Waldenström macroglobulinemia.

Haematologica

November 2021

Bing Center for Waldenström Macroglobulinemia, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA.

Histological transformation into diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is a rare complication in patients with Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) usually associated with a poor prognosis. The objective of this study was to develop and validate a prognostic index for survival in transformed WM patients. Through this multicenter, international collaborative effort, we developed a scoring system based on data from 133 patients with transformed WM who were evaluated between 1995 and 2016 (training cohort).

Background: Thoracic surgery is the optimal treatment for early-stage lung cancer, but there is a high risk of postoperative morbidity. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate patients' preoperative general condition and cardiorespiratory capacity to determine the risk of postoperative complications. The objective of this study was to assess whether the stair-climbing test could be used in the preoperative evaluation of lung resection patients to predict postoperative morbidity following thoracic surgery.

Although optimal therapy for myocardial infarction includes reperfusion to restore blood flow to the ischemic region, ischemia/reperfusion (IR) also initiates an inflammatory response likely contributing to adverse left ventricular (LV) extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. Galectin-3 (Gal-3), a β-galactoside-binding-lectin, promotes cardiac remodeling and dysfunction. Our aim is to investigate whether Gal-3 pharmacological inhibition using modified citrus pectin (MCP) improves cardiac remodeling and functional changes associated with IR.

Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inactivation limits aging-associated heart failure in mice.

Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol

June 2018

Normandie University UNIROUEN, Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale U1096 , Rouen , France.

We have previously shown that protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inactivation in mice [PTP1B-deficient (PTP1B) mice] improves left ventricular (LV) angiogenesis, perfusion, remodeling, and function and limits endothelial dysfunction after myocardial infarction. However, whether PTP1B inactivation slows aging-associated cardiovascular dysfunction remains unknown. Wild-type (WT) and PTP1B mice were allowed to age until 18 mo.

Multidetector computed tomography sizing of aortic annulus prior to transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR): Variability and impact of observer experience.

Diagn Interv Imaging

May 2018

Department of Radiology, Cardiac MR/CT Unit, Rouen University Hospital, 1, rue de Germont, 76031 Rouen cedex, France; Department of Cardiology, Rouen University Hospital, 1, rue de Germont, 76031 Rouen cedex, France. Electronic address:

Purpose: To evaluate intra- and inter-observer variability of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) sizing of the aortic annulus before transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and the effect of observer experience, aortic valve calcification and image quality.

Methods: MDCT examinations of 52 consecutive patients with tricuspid aortic valve (30 women, 22 men) with a mean age of 83±7 (SD) years (range: 64-93 years) were evaluated retrospectively. The maximum and minimum diameters, area and circumference of the aortic annulus were measured twice at diastole and systole with a standardized approach by three independent observers with different levels of experience (expert [observer 1]; resident with intensive 6 months practice [observer 2]; trained resident with starting experience [observer 3]).

Selenoprotein T is a novel OST subunit that regulates UPR signaling and hormone secretion.

EMBO Rep

Neuronal and Neuroendocrine Differentiation and Communication Laboratory, Rouen-Normandie University UNIROUEN, Inserm, U1239, Mont-Saint-Aignan, France

Selenoprotein T (SelT) is a recently characterized thioredoxin-like protein whose expression is very high during development, but is confined to endocrine tissues in adulthood where its function is unknown. We report here that SelT is required for adaptation to the stressful conditions of high hormone level production in endocrine cells. Using immunofluorescence and TEM immunogold approaches, we find that SelT is expressed at the endoplasmic reticulum membrane in all hormone-producing pituitary cell types.
