Retinal hemorrhage (RH) is a significant clinical finding with various etiologies, necessitating accurate classification for effective management. This study aims to externally validate deep learning (DL) models, specifically FastVit_SA12 and ResNet18, for distinguishing between traumatic and medical causes of RH using diverse fundus photography datasets. A comprehensive dataset was compiled, including private collections from South Korea and Virginia, alongside publicly available datasets such as RFMiD, BRSET, and DeepEyeNet.

A Longitudinal Investigation of Trans and Nonbinary Youth Identity: Individual Processes and Family Agreement in the Trans Teen and Family Narratives Project.

Few studies have focused on transgender and nonbinary youths' (TNBY) gender development and even less well understood is how family members understand TNBY identity. The current study investigated: a) how TNBY describe their gender identity over time, and b) how family members understand TNBY gender identity over time. The baseline sample included 96 members of 33 families (33 TNBY, 48 cisgender caregivers, 15 siblings) from the United States; 30 families continued after Wave 1.

Are Dietary Patterns Relevant for Reducing the Risk of Fractures and Sarcopenia?

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to summarise recent evidence on the effects of dietary patterns on the risk of bone fractures and sarcopenia.

Recent Findings: Several dietary patterns have been investigated in relation to musculoskeletal health, including Mediterranean Dietary Patterns (MDP), Dietary Inflammatory Indices, vegetarian and vegan diets. Adherence to 'healthier' dietary patterns appears to be protective against fractures and sarcopenia, with the strongest protective associations found between the MDP and fractures.

Resistance to empirical antibiotics in urinary tract infections caused by Enterobacterales in the East of England.

Objectives: To characterize resistance rates in urinary tract infections caused by Enterobacterales to first- and second-line antibiotics.

Methods: Positive urine cultures examined by the Eastern Pathology Alliance network from September 2018 to September 2023 were retrospectively analysed. Enterobacterales from non-pregnant adults were included.

However, there is no standard treatment and limited published data evaluating their use. The goal of this retrospective study is to describe current real-world treatment and outcomes of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients with R/R ALK-positive ALCL.

The Purple Tomato Story; From Laboratory Bench to the Consumer.

A world apart from academic research, the path from developing a polyphenol-rich crop to a product available to consumers is not one taken by many research scientists. Here we review the steps taken to commercialize anthocyanin-enriched purple tomatoes in the USA. In describing some of the difficulties encountered and the work that was necessary for a successful commercial launch of a new biotech product, we hope to encourage others to believe that there is a viable route to market, and an appetite for polyphenol-enriched foods that can protect health.

Aberrant anatomical variation of the vertebral artery (VA) from an internal carotid artery (ICA) is considered a rare finding. The incidence of this phenomenon can lead to patients suffering from posterior circulation neurological deficit if the ICA becomes significantly diseased. VA atypical anatomical origin is considered one of the rare pathologies, not only precipitating neurovascular incidents but equally leading to severe difficulty in VA dissection and surgical exposure, especially in carotid artery procedures.

We examined whether neighborhood-level socioeconomic disadvantage per the Area Deprivation Index (ADI) was associated with maternal cardiovascular health (CVH) in early pregnancy per the American Heart Association Life's Essential 8 (LE8). This is a cross-sectional analysis from the prospective Nulliparous Pregnancy Outcomes Study-Monitoring Mothers-to-Be Heart Health Study (nuMoM2b-HHS) cohort. The exposure was the ADI in tertiles (T) from least (T1) to most (T3) socioeconomic disadvantage.

Background: This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of various large language models in generating responses for ophthalmology emergencies and compares their accuracy with the established United Kingdom's National Health Service 111 online system.

Methods: We included 21 ophthalmology-related emergency scenario questions from the NHS 111 triaging algorithm. These questions were based on four different ophthalmology emergency themes as laid out in the NHS 111 algorithm.

Recent studies have indicated that captive vortices form within the microscale pores of the filter, which enhance filtration efficiency through a novel mechanism referred to as ricochet separation. Introduction And Hypothesis: Urogenital and rectovaginal fistulae are rare complications of pessary use for pelvic organ prolapse (POP). This systematic review investigates the prevalence of these complications in patients using pessary for POP, potential risk factors and approaches to their investigation and management.

Methods: All studies in English reporting urogenital or rectovaginal fistulae secondary to pessaries for POP were eligible for inclusion.
