Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the impact of exercise training during pregnancy on factors like peak oxygen uptake (V̇Opeak), cardiac function, and flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) in individuals with a prepregnancy BMI of 28 kg/m or higher.
  • The exercise intervention consisted of three weekly sessions of moderate-intensity walking and strength exercises, starting between 12 and 18 weeks of pregnancy and continuing until delivery.
  • Results showed no significant improvements in V̇Opeak, FMD, or echocardiographic outcomes between the exercise and control groups, with only 50% adherence to the exercise program among participants.

Article Synopsis
  • * Despite immediate surgery and treatment for a suspected haematoma, it was later revealed that the source of her issues was actually a retroperitoneal haematoma, which was missed during the first procedure.
  • * The situation emphasizes the critical need to consider bleeding as a major risk in postpartum patients and the challenges posed by retroperitoneal haematomas in diagnosing and managing these cases effectively.

The impact of arts on prescription on individual health and wellbeing: a systematic review with meta-analysis.

Front Public Health

July 2024

Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine, Social Care, and Education, School of Allied and Public Health, Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, United Kingdom.

Introduction: The evidence-base for the impact of participating in the arts for different aspects of health and wellbeing is growing. Arts on Prescription has gained increasing recognition as a method for fostering connections among individuals and communities, however, to date no systematic review of the impact on individual health and wellbeing has been conducted. This review aims to provide an understanding of individual health and wellbeing outcomes from participation in Arts on Prescription programmes.

The southern coast of Africa is one of the few places in the world where water temperatures are predicted to cool in the future. This endemism-rich coastline is home to two sister species of kelps of the genus Ecklonia maxima and Ecklonia radiata, each associated with specific thermal niches, and occuring primarily on opposite sides of the southern tip of Africa. Historical distribution records indicate that E.

Background: Pneumothorax following shoulder arthroscopy, although rare, is documented in over 30 PubMed case reports as occurring during or within 10 hours post-procedure.

Case Presentation: A fit septuagenarian underwent a two-hour arthroscopic rotator cuff repair with IV anaesthesia and laryngeal mask airway, without a nerve block. With one hour remaining of the operation, the patient had desaturation and hypotension.

In recent decades, increases in mental health problems in adolescents have been reported from several large population-based surveys. This raises questions about changes in underlying risk and protective factors that can inform future intervention strategies. Population data were collected from 1995 to 2019 in three waves of the Young-HUNT studies in Norway to map decennial trends in the prevalence of established risk factors for, and their associations with, adolescent mental health problems.

A global dataset of demosponge distribution records.

Data Brief

Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR-CIMAR), University of the Algarve, 8005-139 Faro, Portugal.

Biodiversity information in the form of species occurrence records is key for monitoring and predicting current and future biodiversity patterns, as well as for guiding conservation and management strategies. However, the reliability and accuracy of this information are frequently undermined by taxonomic and spatial errors. Additionally, biodiversity information facilities often share data in diverse incompatible formats, precluding seamless integration and interoperability.

Background: Sepsis has a high incidence and mortality rate. Accurate data are needed for health service planning and for research, and there is a need to identify coding practices in Norway.

Material And Method: All patients over 17 years of age who had been admitted to Norwegian hospitals with sepsis in the period 2008-21 were identified using diagnostic codes for infection plus organ failure, and specific codes for sepsis, from the Norwegian Patient Registry.

Data on contemporary and future geographical distributions of marine species are crucial for guiding conservation and management policies in face of climate change. However, available distributional patterns have overlooked key ecosystem structuring species, despite their numerous ecological and socioeconomic services. Future range estimates are mostly available for few species at regional scales, and often rely on the outdated Representative Concentration Pathway scenarios of climate change, hindering global biodiversity estimates within the framework of current international climate policies.

Information on population structure and connectivity of targeted species is key for proper implementation of spatial conservation measures. We used a combination of genomics, biophysical modelling, and biotelemetry to infer the population structure and connectivity of Atlantic meagre, an important fisheries resource throughout its distribution. Genetic samples from previously identified Atlantic spawning locations (Gironde, Tejo, Guadalquivir, Banc d'Arguin) and two additional regions (Algarve and Senegal) were analysed using genome-wide SNP-genotyping and mitochondrial DNA analyses.

Widespread support for a global species list with a formal governance system.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

November 2023

Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods, Charles Darwin University, Darwin NT 0909, Australia.

Taxonomic data are a scientific common. Unlike nomenclature, which has strong governance institutions, there are currently no generally accepted governance institutions for the compilation of taxonomic data into an accepted global list. This gap results in challenges for conservation, ecological research, policymaking, international trade, and other areas of scientific and societal importance.

Background: The interpretation of research results is affected by how results are presented. We show the importance of presenting the association between body mass index (BMI) and healthcare costs from both the individual perspective and the population perspective.

Material And Method: Using measurements of height and weight from the Nord-Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT Study) linked to register data on specialist healthcare costs and demographics, we estimated the association between BMI and specialist healthcare costs by means of regression analyses.

Objective: Assess whether engagement in a range of cultural activities, both 'passive' and 'active' (ie, receptive and creative) participation, is associated with later demand for general practitioner (GP) consultations.

Design: Longitudinal prospective cohort study.

Setting: Data from the population-based the third Survey of Trøndelag Health Study (2006-2008) in Norway was linked to an administrative register including service information from all GP offices nationwide.

Ammonia (NH) and methane (CH) emission measurements that reflect local production conditions are required to track progress in national emission policies and verify emission factors. The findings can also be used to better understand key factors influencing emissions. This is especially important in Norway, which has long cold winters, and small cattle herds in mechanically ventilated buildings.

The paradigm of past climate-driven range shifts structuring the distribution of marine intraspecific biodiversity lacks replication in biological models exposed to comparable limiting conditions in independent regions. This may lead to confounding effects unlinked to climate drivers. We aim to fill in this gap by asking whether the global distribution of intraspecific biodiversity of giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) is explained by past climate changes occurring across the two hemispheres.

The transport of passively dispersed organisms across tropical margins remains poorly understood. Hypotheses of oceanographic transportation potential lack testing with large scale empirical data. To address this gap, we used the seagrass species, Halodule wrightii, which is unique in spanning the entire tropical Atlantic.

The distribution of mangrove intra-specific biodiversity can be structured by historical demographic processes that enhance or limit effective population sizes. Oceanographic connectivity (OC) may further structure intra-specific biodiversity by preserving or diluting the genetic signatures of historical changes. Despite its relevance for biogeography and evolution, the role of oceanographic connectivity in structuring the distribution of mangrove's genetic diversity has not been addressed at global scale.

This article explored experiences of ageing from interviews with a sample drawn from a population living in a North Sami community. Our focus is on older adult's involvement in activities that emphasise and maintain them as participants in specific kinds of activities that require knowledge, skills and mentorship, and to what degree it provides them with social capital and ethnic identity. We present data from in-depth interviews with female and male inhabitants ranging from 29 to 75 years of age.

The aim of this paper was to describe overall changes in mental health among adolescents and adults in a Norwegian population over the three last decades and discuss some potential explanations for these changes.

Design: Repeated population-based health surveys to monitor decennial changes.
