Association between gestational age and severe maternal morbidity in preterm delivery: A nationwide population-based cohort study.

Objective: This study investigates whether early gestational age (GA) at delivery is associated with an increased risk for severe maternal morbidity (SMM) in women with preterm delivery.

Methods: This retrospective national cohort study based on the Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d'Information database included mothers who gave birth between 22 and 37 weeks in metropolitan France in 2019 (in utero deaths and medical terminations of pregnancies were excluded). SMM was defined as a composite criterion consisting of the occurrence of at least one of the following events: death, severe preeclampsia, obstetric surgical complications, severe maternal diseases, and admission to the intensive care unit.

Expert perspectives for transoral robotic versus laser surgery for supraglottic carcinomas.

Objective: To assess the opinion, practices, and challenges of international key opinion leaders about two minimal invasive surgical techniques in supraglottic laryngeal tumours: transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) and the transoral robotic surgery (TORS).

Methods: Design of a questionnaire composed of seven sections and fifty questions covering descriptive data of participants, practitioners experience procedural sequences, considerations related to airways, feeding, and voice, intraoperative haemorrhage, postoperative management, and a comparative analysis of TLM and TORS in treating supraglottic laryngeal cancer.

Dysregulation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system (RAAS) in sepsis is a complex and early phenomenon with a likely significant contribution to organ failure and patient outcomes. A better understanding of the pathophysiology and intricacies of the RAAS in septic shock has led to the use of exogenous angiotensin II as a new therapeutic agent. In this review, we report a multinational and multi-disciplinary expert panel discussion on the role and implications of RAAS modulation in sepsis and the use of exogenous angiotensin II.

Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted through January 2024 using the PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases.

Prognostic Impact of Neutropenia Recovery and G-CSF Use in Onco-Hematological Neutropenic Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Unit for Acute Respiratory Failure: A Retrospective, Real World Analysis.

Introduction: The effect of neutropenia and the use of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) in critically ill patients with cancer are controversial, notably in those with lung injury. Neutropenia recovery can be associated with an acute respiratory failure (ARF) requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission, especially when G-CSF is administered.

Methods: In a single-center retrospective study, we evaluated (1) the effect of neutropenia recovery on the 90-day mortality and (2) the impact of G-CSF use on the outcome of patients with cancer and neutropenia with ARF admitted to the ICU.

Risk factors and influence of surgical technique on the risk of caesarean scar defect formation: A systematic review of the literature.

Objective: To determine the factors associated with an increased risk of cesarean scar defect formation.

Methods: A systematic literature search was performed up to July 2022 in PubMed databases following the PRISMA recommendations. All available English-language clinical studies presenting one or more factors that may affect the risk of cesarean scar defect were included.

Incidence, Risk Factors, and Long-Term Outcomes for Extubation Failure in ICU in Patients With Obesity: A Retrospective Analysis of a Multicenter Prospective Observational Study.

Background: To our knowledge, no large observational study has compared the incidence and risk factors for extubation failure within 48 h and during ICU stay in the same cohort of unselected critically ill patients with and without obesity.

Research Question: What are the incidence and risk factors of extubation failure in patients with and without obesity?

Study Design And Methods: In the prospective multicenter observational FREE-REA study in 26 ICUs, the primary objective was to compare the incidence of extubation failure within 48 h in patients with and without obesity. Secondary objectives were to describe and to identify the independent specific risk factors for extubation failure using first a logistic regression model and second a decision tree analysis.

Nevertheless, there is limited evidence regarding the clinical profile of antiseizure medications (ASMs) in PSE. This study aims to evaluate the 12-month effectiveness and tolerability of perampanel (PER) used as only add-on treatment in patients with PSE in a real-world setting.

Empirical antifungal therapy for health care-associated intra-abdominal infection: a retrospective, multicentre and comparative study.

Background: Current guidelines recommend using antifungals for selected patients with health care-associated intra-abdominal infection (HC-IAI), but this recommendation is based on a weak evidence. This study aimed to assess the association between early empirical use of antifungals and outcomes in intensive care unit (ICU) adult patients requiring re-intervention after abdominal surgery.

Methods: A retrospective, multicentre cohort study with overlap propensity score weighting was conducted in three ICUs located in three medical institutions in France.

Norepinephrine dosing in France: Time to move forward!

Norepinephrine is the first-line vasopressor used in acute cardio-circulatory failure. At the bedside, its dose is critical as it serves to determine the severity of patients, to compare the patients between different studies, and to start specific interventions. Recently, several investigators underlined differences in the expression of norepinephrine doses according to countries and manufacturers.

Prognostic value of 18 FDG-PET at diagnosis and follow-up in giant cell arteritis: An observational restrospective study.

Objectives: To evaluate the ability of FDG PET/CT, at diagnosis of giant cell arteritis (GCA) and during follow-up, to predict occurrence of relapse in large-vessel GCA (LV-GCA).

Therapeutic bronchoscopy for malignant central airway obstruction: Introduction to the EpiGETIF registry.

Background And Objective: EpiGETIF is a web-based, multicentre clinical database created in 2019 aiming for prospective collection of data regarding therapeutic rigid bronchoscopy (TB) for malignant central airway obstruction (MCAO).

Methods: Patients were enrolled into the registry from January 2019 to November 2022. Data were prospectively entered through a web-interface, using standardized definitions for each item.

A clinical utility evaluation of dual HIV/Syphilis point-of-care tests in non-clinical settings for screening for HIV and syphilis in men who have sex with men.

Background: Dual point-of-care tests (POCTs) for the simultaneous detection of antibodies to HIV and syphilis have been developed. Since community-based organisations (CBO) are effective providers of HIV and syphilis testing among men who have sex with men (MSM), evaluation of the utility of these dual tests at CBO testing services is a high priority. The aim of this study is to determine the feasibility of performing dual HIV-syphilis POCT testing among both users and providers at these non-clinical sites.

Position Paper on the Reporting of Norepinephrine Formulations in Critical Care from the Society of Critical Care Medicine and European Society of Intensive Care Medicine Joint Task Force.

Objectives: To provide guidance on the reporting of norepinephrine formulation labeling, reporting in publications, and use in clinical practice.

Design: Review and task force position statements with necessary guidance.

Setting: A series of group conference calls were conducted from August 2023 to October 2023, along with a review of the available evidence and scope of the problem.

Abdominal drainage after elective colorectal surgery: propensity score-matched retrospective analysis of an Italian cohort.

Background: In Italy, surgeons continue to drain the abdominal cavity in more than 50 per cent of patients after colorectal resection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of abdominal drain placement on early adverse events in patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery.

Methods: A database was retrospectively analysed through a 1:1 propensity score-matching model including 21 covariates.

Clinical outcomes in combination versus mono antibiotic therapy in ICU admitted patients with a suspected infection - A substudy of the DIANA study.

Purpose: In a retrospective cohort study of intensive care unit (ICU) admitted adult patients with suspected or confirmed infection, associations between combination versus mono empirical antibiotic therapy and clinical cure at day 7 as well as mortality at day 7 and 28, were investigated.

Materials And Methods: Patients from the DIANA study were grouped and analysed by combination versus mono antibiotic therapy. Clinical cure was defined as survival and resolution of all signs and symptoms related to the infection.
