In clinical management of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, serum cardiac enzyme biomarkers and electrocardiogram (ECG) are both highly recommended emergency check-ups to evaluate myocardial injuries. Medical imaging - including head CT or MRI - are not routine for CO poisoning emergency management. We herein report on a comatose patient who was diagnosed with cerebral infarction secondary to 24 hours previous acute CO poisoning, warned by a typical cerebral-type T waves on ECG in advance, and confirmed by a head MRI.

Background: Accurate measurement of pulsatile blood flow in the coronary arteries enables coronary wave intensity analysis, which can serve as an indicator for assessing coronary artery physiology and myocardial viability. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods integrating coronary angiography images and fractional flow reserve (FFR) offer a novel approach for computing mean coronary blood flow. However, previous methods neglect the inertial effect of blood flow, which may have great impact on pulsatile blood flow calculation.

Background: Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) harm bone health and are significantly associated with osteoporosis development. In this study, we aimed to explore the mechanisms involved in carbamazepine (CBZ) and microRNA (miR)-20a-5p/ubiquitin-specific peptidase 10 (USP10)/S-phase kinase-associated protein 2 (SKP2) axis in osteoporosis.
Methods: Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were treated with different concentrations of CBZ.
Objectives: This study aimed to establish and implement an interdisciplinary management strategy led by senior nurses via a vascular access specialist team (VAST) at a teaching hospital.
Methods: In 2021, the hospital established and implemented a nurse-led VAST management strategy to improve the quality of clinical central line maintenance. The VAST comprised senior nurses specialized in intravenous therapy, ultrasound/radiology technologists, medical doctors with central venous catheterization certificates, central line maintenance nurses, and administrative coordinators.

Thioredoxin (Trx) plays a critical role in maintaining redox balance in various cells and exhibits anti-oxidative, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory effects. However, whether exogenous Trx can inhibit intracellular oxidative damage has not been investigated. In previous study, we have identified a novel Trx from the jellyfish , named CcTrx1, and confirmed its antioxidant activities in vitro.

As the essential amino acids, branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) from diets is indispensable for health. BCAA supplementation is often recommended for patients with consumptive diseases or healthy people who exercise regularly. Latest studies and ours reported that elevated BCAA level was positively correlated with metabolic syndrome, diabetes, thrombosis and heart failure.

Background Data regarding the impact of successful chronic total occlusion treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (CTO-PCI) on symptoms and quality of life (QOL) in elderly patients (≥75 years) are unknown. This prospective study aimed to assess whether successful CTO-PCI could improve the symptoms and QOL in elderly patients (≥75 years). Methods and Results Consecutive patients who underwent elective CTO-PCI were prospectively enrolled and subdivided into 3 groups based on age: age<65 years, 65 years≤age<75 years, and age≥75 years.

Background: Accurate measurement of intracoronary blood flow rate is of great significance for the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease (IHD). Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) method, combining coronary angiography images and fractional flow reserve (FFR), provides a new way to calculate the mean flow rate. However, due to the incomplete boundary conditions obtained by FFR, side branches were ignored which was likely to have a significant impact on the accuracy.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is one of the most common primary bone malignancy. Combining chemotherapy and surgical treatment significantly improved clinical outcomes for osteosarcoma patients. Osteosarcoma stem cells (OSCs) are often more malignant than differentiated cancer cells and are a key determinant of responses to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, therefore, the removal of OSCs could be an effective therapeutic strategy.

Objective: In the mouse model, manipulations of assisted reproductive technology (ART) can lead to enlarged placentas and influence the expression of amino acid transporters in placentas during mid-to late-gestation. However, it is uncertain whether those abnormal changes presented in ART mouse placentas also occur in human ART placentas.
Methods: We choose the placenta tissue of pregnant woman by ART in term birth (ART group) and by natural pregnancy in term birth (control group) to compare the birth weight of the baby, placental weight and ratio of the fetal/placental weight of these two groups.

Serum amyloid A (SAA) is one of the acute phase proteins released primarily from the liver in response to infection, inflammation and trauma. Emerging evidence indicates that SAA may function as a host-derived damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) protein to sense danger signals in pregnancy. The plasma SAA levels in maternal circulation are significantly increased in normal parturition, particularly in postpartum, as well as in gestational disorders such as premature preterm rupture of membranes, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and recurrent spontaneous abortion.
