January 2025

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Bionic Materials and Equipment, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 29 Yudao Street, Nanjing, 210016, China.

For rough surfaces, stable, fast, and repeatable fixation has wide applicability in transportation, fire protection, and other fields. Different rough surfaces present technical challenges for achieving convenient and reliable fixation. Based on the highly adhesive attachment structures of typical organisms, a multi-mechanism (negative pressure adsorption, mechanical locking, and chemical bonding) cooperative bionic fixation device is proposed.

In this work, the PEEK/short carbon fiber (CF) composites were prepared, a new thermodynamic coupling (preheating and impact compaction) process of the FDM method is proposed, and the warp deformation mechanism was obtained by finite element simulation analysis. Results show that a new method could improve the forming quality of an FDM sample. The porosity of FDM samples of the PEEK/CF composite gradually decreased from 10.

The large amount of sampled data in coherent phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR) brings heavy data transmission, processing, and storage burdens. By using the comparator combined with undersampling, we achieve simultaneous reduction of sampling rate and sampling resolution in hardware, thus greatly decreasing the sampled data volume. But this way will inevitably cause the deterioration of detection signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) due to the quantization noise's dramatic increase.

Fiber-based flexible sensors have promising application potential in human motion and healthcare monitoring, owing to their merits of being lightweight, flexible, and easy to process. Now, high-performance elastic fiber-based strain sensors with high sensitivity, a large working range, and excellent durability are in great demand. Herein, we have easily and quickly prepared a highly sensitive and durable fiber-based strain sensor by dip coating a highly stretchable polyurethane (PU) elastic fiber in an MXene/waterborne polyurethane (WPU) dispersion solution.

Research Progress of Self-Healing Polymer for Ultraviolet-Curing Three-Dimensional Printing.

Polymers (Basel)

December 2023

National Special Superfine Powder Engineering Research Center of China, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing 210094, China.

Ultraviolet (UV)-curing technology as a photopolymerization technology has received widespread attention due to its advantages of high efficiency, wide adaptability, and environmental friendliness. Ultraviolet-based 3D printing technology has been widely used in the printing of thermosetting materials, but the permanent covalent cross-linked networks of thermosetting materials which are used in this method make it hard to recover the damage caused by the printing process through reprocessing, which reduces the service life of the material. Therefore, introducing dynamic bonds into UV-curable polymer materials might be a brilliant choice which can enable the material to conduct self-healing, and thus meet the needs of practical applications.

Ballistic helmets are an important part of personal protective equipment in war and are specifically designed to protect a person's head. The future trend is to improve the protective performance of helmets through the use of lightweight coatings, and polyurea, as one of the hottest elastomeric polymer coating materials in recent years, has excellent physical properties, especially its ability to improve the target's protection against blast shock waves. Therefore, in this study, using a validated head model, a blast impact model under the fluid-solid coupling method was constructed to study the effect of blast wave on the model and to analyse its effect on intracranial pressure and skull deformation.

Polyimide (PI) films are widely used in electronic devices owing to their excellent mechanical and electrical properties and high thermal and chemical stabilities. In particular, PI films play an important role in flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs). However, one challenge currently faced with their use is that the adhesives used in FPCBs cause a high dielectric loss in high-frequency applications.

Mobile edge computing has been an important computing paradigm for providing delay-sensitive and computation-intensive services to mobile users. In this paper, we study the problem of the joint optimization of task assignment and energy management in a mobile-server-assisted edge computing network, where mobile servers can provide assisted task offloading services on behalf of the fixed servers at the network edge. The design objective is to minimize the system delay.

Reducing the loose-layer-to-dense-layer ratio in PEO coatings on aluminum and its alloys is the key to improving their corrosion resistance and expanding their applications in the aerospace industry and other fields. In this paper, we describe the discharge evolution during the PEO process in exhaustive detail and report the appearance of a novel "chain-like" discharge for the first time. We investigated the microstructure and composition of PEO coatings using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and an X-ray diffractometer (XRD).

Three-dimensional integration technology provides a promising total solution that can be used to achieve system-level integration with high function density and low cost. In this study, a wafer-level 3D integration technology using PDAP as an intermediate bonding polymer was applied effectively for integration with an SOI wafer and dummy a CMOS wafer. The influences of the procedure parameters on the adhesive bonding effects were determined by Si-Glass adhesive bonding tests.

Risk Evaluation for a Manufacturing Process Based on a Directed Weighted Network.

Entropy (Basel)

June 2020

School of Reliability and Systems Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing 100191, China.

The quality of a manufacturing process can be represented by the complex coupling relationship between quality characteristics, which is defined by the directed weighted network to evaluate the risk of the manufacturing process. A multistage manufacturing process model is established to extract the quality information, and the quality characteristics of each process are mapped to nodes of the network. The mixed embedded partial conditional mutual information (PMIME) is used to analyze the causal effect between quality characteristics, wherein the causal relationships are mapped as the directed edges, while the magnitudes of the causal effects are defined as the weight of edges.

Introduction: Effectiveness and safety assessment for kinetic energy (KE) bullets is of importance, considering numerous reports about excessive damage cases of KE bullets in recent years. Early study of KE impacting targets mainly focused on threshold penetration issue, but did not involve cavity evolution of target and energy transfer. The paper aimed at analyzing cavity evolution and energy transfer during rubber bullet impacting skin-fat-muscle model.

Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics, M/C 0219, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA 24061, USA.

The penetration of a rifle bullet into a block of ballistic gelatin is experimentally and computationally studied for enhancing our understanding of the damage caused to human soft tissues. The gelatin is modeled as an isotropic and homogeneous elastic-plastic linearly strain-hardening material that obeys a polynomial equation of state. Effects of numerical uncertainties on penetration characteristics are found by repeating simulations with minute variations in the impact speed and the angle of attack.

In the last few decades, various researches focus on the transient pressure in the behind armor blunt trauma. This paper presented a investigation on the transient pressure in the ballistic gelatin behind a soft body armor subjected to the impacting from three ammunitions. Experimental results show that three peaks appear on the pressure-time curves without taking into account the ammunition type and the impact velocity.

The impact response of body armor composed of a ceramic plate with an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber-reinforced composite and layers of UHMWPE fibers shielding a block of ballistic gelatin has been experimentally and numerically analyzed. It is a surrogate model for studying injuries to human torso caused by a bullet striking body protection armor placed on a person. Photographs taken with a high speed camera are used to determine deformations of the armor and the gelatin.
