The Childhood Autism Rating Scale™, Second Edition (CARS™-2) and Social Responsiveness Scale™, Second Edition (SRS™-2) are two measures for identifying autism symptoms. The CARS™-2 has two versions: Standard (CARS-ST) and High-Functioning (CARS-HF). To better understand their properties, this study aimed to investigate: (1) the associations among the CARS-ST, CARS-HF and the SRS™-2, and (2) the severity consistency between the CARS-ST and the CARS-HF.

A simple and compact intensity-interrogated terahertz (THz) relative humidity (RH) sensing platform is successfully demonstrated in experiments on the basis of combining a porous polymer sensing membrane and a continuous THz electronic system. The RH-sensing membrane is fabricated by surface modification of a porous polymer substrate with hydrophilic and photosensitive copolymer brushes via a UV-induced graft-polymerization process. The intensity interrogation sensing scheme indicated that the power reduction of the 0.

Terahertz (THz) plasmonic metamaterial, based on a metal-wire-woven hole array (MWW-HA), is investigated for the distinct power depletion in the transmittance spectrum of 0.1-2 THz, including the reflected waves from metal holes and woven metal wires. Woven metal wires have four orders of power depletion, which perform sharp dips in a transmittance spectrum.

Fermented soy sauce consists of microorganisms that exert beneficial effects. However, the microbial community dynamics during the fermentation course is poorly characterized. Soy sauce production is classified into the stages of mash fermentation with koji (S0), brine addition (S1), microbial transformation (S2), flavor creation (S3), and fermentation completion (S4).

Motivation: The synthesis of proteins with novel desired properties is challenging but sought after by the industry and academia. The dominating approach is based on trial-and-error inducing point mutations, assisted by structural information or predictive models built with paired data that are difficult to collect. This study proposes a sequence-based unpaired-sample of novel protein inventor (SUNI) to build ThermalProGAN for generating thermally stable proteins based on sequence information.

Marine debris is an international environmental issue, and the growing amount of abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) is a particular concern. Despite Taiwan's substantial fishing industry, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding of fishing gear. This work conducted a static material flow analysis to estimate the flows and the stocks of fishing gear in Taiwan in 2020, based on government statistics and interviews with fishing gears producing companies, fishermen, and recycling companies.

Semiconductor colloidal quantum dots (QDs) have been regarded as promising fluorescent materials for chemical sensing, bio-detection and optical communications; yet it still remains challenging to bring out self-powered photodetectors based solely on QDs because the excited charges within QDs are extremely immobile due to their reduced dimensionalities and they hardly form effective photocurrents. Hence, we have attempted to decouple the light-absorption and charge-transport criteria in order to feature highly-sensitive, rapid-response and self-driven photodetectors based on single-layer carbon QD layers (CQDLs) facile self-assembling deposition with fine control over thickness. We show explicit dark-current suppression by visualizing charge blocking phenomena and screen effects due to layered CQDL structures, which alleviate the movement of leakage carriers crossing over the CQD interlayers.

Background: The assumptions of conventional spatial models cannot estimate the responses across space and over time. Here we propose new spatial panel data models to investigate the association between the risk factors and incidence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Methods: A longitudinal (panel data) study was conducted using data from the National Health Insurance Database in Taiwan.

Here, we fabricated two different heterogeneous nanocomposites, core-shell MOF-AgNC and corner MOF-AgNC, as photocatalysts for CO conversion by generating metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on silver nanocube templates. These MOF-AgNC nanocomposites showed good CO adsorption features and high CO reduction reactivity. The performances of these MOF-AgNC nanocomposites in CO adsorption and CO reduction reactions can be characterized by in situ Raman spectrum measurement.

A benzimidazole-containing diamine monomer was prepared via a simple one-step synthesis process. A two-step procedure involving polycondensation in the presence of aromatic dianhydrides (4,4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride, ODPA) followed by thermal imidization was then performed to prepare a benzimidazole-based polyimide (BI-PI). BI-PI membranes were fabricated using an electrospinning technique and were hot pressed for 30 min at 200 °C under a pressure of 50 kgf /cm.

Bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) is highly overexpressed in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and correlates with tumor stage and metastatic burden. Although several lines of evidence suggest that BMP2 promotes cell migration and invasiveness in vitro, the in vivo role of BMP2 in the metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma cells remains less well understood. Here, we revealed that BMP2 is highly overexpressed in lung adenocarcinoma patients with lymph node metastasis compared with patients without lymph node metastasis.

Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy has been proven as an effective detection means for the label-free and nondestructive sensing of biochemical molecules based on their unique roto-vibrational transitions. However, the conventional THz spectroscopic system is unsuitable for minute material sensing due to its far-field detection scheme, low sample amount, and lack of spectral characteristics, leading to low absorption cross-sections and sensitivity. In this study, a 3D plasmonic structure based on a metal-coated woven-wire mesh (MCWM) was experimentally and numerically demonstrated for sensing trace amounts of analytes combined with THz spectroscopy.

Rapid, reliable, and sensitive colorimetric detection has been regarded as a highly potential technique for visually monitoring the cation ions. Yet, insight into detection kinetics and quantitative analysis for colorimetric sensing of sodium ions has rarely been revealed. Herein, in-depth kinetic investigations of colorimetric detection using surface-modified Au-nanoparticle (AuNP) probes were performed for interpreting the correlation of salt concentration, reaction duration, and light absorbance.

Plasmon resonances of metal nanocrystals resulted from free electrons oscillating around nanocrystals, leading to a strong electromagnetic field around them. Because these oscillating electrons possess higher energy than the original ones, also known as hot electrons, these were widely used as photocatalysts for various reactions. Also, the strength and distribution of the electromagnetic field around the nanocrystals strongly depended on their morphology and excited irradiation, which led to the reaction environment around nanocrystals being controllable.

Ciprofloxacin (CIP) has been listed in the last version of the surface water due to its ability to kill human cells by inhibiting the activity of DNA topoisomerase IV. Thus, CIP, along with other antibiotic pollution has become a serious threat to the environment and public health. Ozonation has been used as an advanced technique that is applied in wastewater treatment to remove CIP, but the primary limitation of this method is the low solubility of ozone in water.
