Clearance of genital warts in pregnant women by mild local hyperthermia: a pilot report.

Genital warts acquired during pregnancy tend to grow fast, and management is challenging. We treated two cases of primipara with extensive genital warts by local hyperthermia at 44°C for 30 minutes a day for 3 consecutive days plus 2 additional days 1 week later, then once a week till there showed signs of clinical regression. The warty lesions in the patients resolved in 5 and 7 weeks, respectively.

Infrared-induced adult colloid milium treated with fractionated CO2 laser.

Adult colloid milium is a rare cutaneous deposition disorder that frequently involves areas of chronic sun exposure. The most common clinical presentation exhibits multiple, firm, and amber-colored papules that cluster to form large plaques. Histologically, there are masses of amorphous, eosinophilic material expanding the papillary dermis, and at times extending into the mid-dermis, with adjacent solar elastosis.

Overexpression of YAP1 is correlated with progression, metastasis and poor prognosis in patients with gastric carcinoma.

YAP1 is overexpressed in numerous cancers, but its molecular mechanism in the carcinogenesis and clinic significance in tumor diagnosis and prognosis remains to be determined. We attempted to analyze the clinicopathologic significance of YAP1 expression and the correlation of the YAP1 levels with the progression, metastasis and prognosis of patients with gastric carcinoma. By immunohistochemistry, we determined YAP1 expression in 214 of primary gastric carcinoma (GC), 167 of matched normal gastric mucosa, 40 of chronic atrophic gastritis, 11 of dysplasia and 73 of intestinal metaplasia.

A case of tertiary neurosyphilis presenting with moth-eaten bone lesions.

Syphilis, the "great imitator," with regard to skin diseases, is a chronic systemic infectious disease with a clinical course that waxes and wanes. The incidence of tertiary syphilis had decreased drastically these decades. We report a case of tertiary neurosyphilis presenting with moth-eaten bone lesions of the lower extremities.

Shikonin suppresses IL-17-induced VEGF expression via blockage of JAK2/STAT3 pathway.

IL-17 signaling in keratinocytes plays an important role in psoriasis, which is a benign, chronic skin disease characterized by keratinocytes hyperproliferation and increased dermal vascularity. Shikonin, isolated from the traditional medical herbs Lithospermum erythrorhizon, has long been found to possess different medicinal properties such as antibacterial, improving wound healing, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects. However, the effects and mechanisms of shikonin on VEGF expression in keratinocytes mediated by IL-17 signaling, are still not fully clarified.

A large-scale screen for coding variants predisposing to psoriasis.

To explore the contribution of functional coding variants to psoriasis, we analyzed nonsynonymous single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) across the genome by exome sequencing in 781 psoriasis cases and 676 controls and through follow-up validation in 1,326 candidate genes by targeted sequencing in 9,946 psoriasis cases and 9,906 controls from the Chinese population. We discovered two independent missense SNVs in IL23R and GJB2 of low frequency and five common missense SNVs in LCE3D, ERAP1, CARD14 and ZNF816A associated with psoriasis at genome-wide significance. Rare missense SNVs in FUT2 and TARBP1 were also observed with suggestive evidence of association.

An exploratory split-face study of a dual-wavelength laser system on erythromelanosis follicularis faciei in Chinese population.

Background: Erythromelanosis follicularis faciei (EFF) is clinically characterized by well-demarcated erythema, hyperpigmentation and follicular papules. No satisfactory therapy has been widely accepted.

Objective: This study was aimed to evaluate the efficiency and complications of a dual-wavelength laser system in the treatment of EFF in Chinese population.

Mucous membrane pemphigoid.

Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is chronic and frequently associated with exacerbations and remissions of clinical signs and symptoms. Clinicians should use pathologic and immunonologic techniques to help diagnose patients. Multidisciplinary collaboration is often necessary for the diagnosis and proper treatment of MMP.

Barriers to acceptance of provider-initiated testing and counseling among men who have sex with men in Shenyang, China: a cross-sectional study.

A high prevalence of HIV infection is present among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China, but many people living with HIV or AIDS (PLWHs) are unaware of their HIV infection status. Provider-initiated HIV testing and counseling (PITC) is a streamlined model that can significantly enhance HIV detection and detect infections earlier. However, PITC has not yet been widely applied, and no studies have been conducted on MSM's attitudes towards PITC in China.

Prevalence of HIV and syphilis infection among high school and college student MSM in China: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to systematically review the published studies and summarize the estimates of HIV and syphilis prevalences among high school and college student MSM in China in order to provide information for conducting targeted interventions.

Methods: Pubmed, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang and Google Scholar databases were searched in January 2013 to identify relevant articles. Data of eligible citations were extracted by two reviewers.

Thalidomide improves clinical symptoms of primary cutaneous amyloidosis: report of familiar and sporadic cases.

Primary cutaneous amyloidosis (PCA), either familial or sporadic, poses a therapeutic challenge. We conducted an open trial using thalidomide to treat three cases of familial and three cases of sporadic PCA, at initial dose of 100 mg/day. Dosage adjustment was made according to improvement of symptoms or patient's own choice.

[Study on the association between genetic variation of gag gene and HLA restricted CTL response in HIV-1 B' infected Chinese people].

Objective: To identify the genetic variation of Gag gene in HIV-1 B' subtype infected Chinese people and to evaluate the association between the positive selection sites and HLA restricted CTL response.

Methods: We downloaded all HIV-1 B' subtype gag gene sampled from China from the LANL HIV database. The sequences were grouped by years of collection and the mean intra-subtype diversity and divergence were examined by MEGA 5.

Protective effects of a topical antioxidant complex containing vitamins C and E and ferulic acid against ultraviolet irradiation-induced photodamage in Chinese women.

Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate whether a topical antioxidant complex containing vitamins C and E and ferulic acid can protect solar-simulated ultraviolet irradiation (ssUVR)-induced acute photodamage in human skin.

Method: Twelve healthy female Chinese subjects were enrolled in this study. Four unexposed sites on dorsal skin were marked for the experiment.

The application of nanoemulsion in dermatology: an overview.

Nanotechnology has been introduced into dermatology for years. Nanoemulsions (NEs) are promising drug delivery systems with practical applications for pharmaceutical, cosmetic and chemical industry applications. Herein, we provide an overview of the application of NEs in dermatology during the latest 5 years.

Temporal effect of local hyperthermia on murine contact hypersensitivity.

Background: The sensitization and elicitation phases are involved in the immunopathogenesis of contact hypersensitivity (CHS). Langerhans cells (LCs) are believed to play pivotal roles in the sensitization stage of CHS. Local hyperthermia on skin induces the migration as well as maturation of epidermal LCs.

Drug use and sex work: competing risk factors for newly acquired HIV in Yunnan, China.

Objective: To investigate the HIV incidence and its related factors among female sex workers (FSWs) in a high prevalence area where injection drug use is also widely documented.

Method: A cross-sectional study of 1642 female sex workers (FSWs) was conducted in Honghe Prefecture of Yunnan Province. Interviewed-questionnaires were administrated to collect information on sexual partnerships, condom use and illicit drug using behaviors etc.

Combination of intense pulsed light and fractional CO(2) laser treatments for patients with acne with inflammatory and scarring lesions.

Background: Various laser and light sources are been used increasingly in cosmetic dermatology.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination intense pulsed light (IPL) and fractional CO2 laser in treating patients with acne with both inflammatory and scarring lesions.

Methods: In total, 37 Chinese patients with acne with facial inflammatory and scar lesions were treated.

Ultrapulse-mode versus superpulse-mode fractional carbon dioxide laser on normal back skin.

Background And Objectives: Ultrapulse-mode (UPCO2) and superpulse-mode (SPCO2) fractional carbon dioxide lasers have been widely used to treat photo-aged skin, acne scars, and other skin conditions. This study was designed to compare the efficacy of new SPCO2 and UPCO2 lasers.

Materials And Methods: Seven healthy Chinese women received one pass of UPCO2 treatment on the left back and SPCO2 treatment on the right back.
