This systematic review evaluates the efficacy of surgical interventions in improving the quality of life for patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP). A thorough literature search, following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, identified 11 studies that focused on patient-reported outcomes after surgical treatments, including pancreatic resections, drainage procedures, and duodenum-preserving head resections. The findings indicate that organ-preserving procedures, notably the Frey and Beger operations, significantly enhance pain control and overall quality of life while reducing analgesic dependency.

Human skin is the largest organ and outermost surface of the human body, and due to the continuous exposure to various challenges, it is prone to develop injuries, customarily known as wounds. Although various tissue engineering strategies and bioactive wound matrices have been employed to speed up wound healing, scarring remains a significant challenge. The wound environment is harsh due to the presence of degradative enzymes and elevated pH levels, and the physiological processes involved in tissue regeneration operate on distinct time scales.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) has been proven efficacious in the removal of CBD stones. Even after endoscopic stone removal, recurring cholangitis due to a residual common bile duct (CBD) stone is prevalent in clinical practice with a residual recurrence rate of 4-24% after successful stone retrieval. This comprehensive study and meta-analysis aimed to determine if preventive saline irrigation of the bile duct (PSIB) reduces the amount of residual CBD stones.

Background: Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) generally assess efficacy and safety separately, with the conclusion of whether a treatment is beneficial based solely on the efficacy endpoint. However, assessing and combining efficacy and safety domains, using a single composite outcome measure, can provide a more comprehensive assessment of the overall effect of a treatment. Furthermore, composite outcomes can incorporate information regarding the relationship between the individual outcomes.
