Unlabelled: A 71-year-old man with ischemic cardiomyopathy, a left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction of 23 %, left bundle branch block with a QRS duration of 160 milliseconds, and nonsustained ventricular tachycardia was admitted for cardiac resynchronization therapy combined with an implantable defibrillator. During LV lead placement, the guiding sheath encountered strong resistance during deep coronary sinus (CS) cannulation. CS venography showed a complete occlusion, and we diagnosed venospasm because the occlusion self-resolved after several minutes.

Objective: The maximum blood pressure was reported as a possible marker of organ damage. We previously showed that maximum home blood pressure was significantly associated with development of diabetic nephropathy. In the same cohort of patients with diabetes as in the previous study, this study aimed to evaluate the prognostic blood pressure values for the onset of first cardiovascular events.

This retrospective study was aimed (i) at elucidating the correlation between fatty liver diagnoses based on the plain computed tomography (CT) value and those based on the attenuation coefficient (AC) value determined with the ultrasound-guided attenuation parameter (UGAP) and (ii) at evaluating the diagnostic power of AC values. We included 125 patients who underwent blood tests, abdominal ultrasonography and abdominal CT at our department between April 2020 and March 2021. Hepatic fat infiltration was categorized as S0 (<5%), S1 (≥5 and 30<%), S2 (≥30 and <50%) or S3 (≥50%).

: Delay of reperfusion therapy is related to high mortality in cases of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Guidelines emphasize that the first-medical-contact-to-balloon (FMCTB) time should be within 90 min. A mobile cloud-based 12-lead electrocardiogram (MC-ECG) transmission system might be useful in such cases, especially in rural areas.

The AMBITION study (NCT01178073) provided the first long-term clinical evidence for initial combination therapy with ambrisentan and tadalafil in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Nevertheless, predictors of treatment response were not assessed. To identify predictors for response to initial combination therapy, we examined data from 302 patients with PAH (World Health Organization Functional Class II or III) who received initial combination therapy from the modified intention-to-treat population of the AMBITION study (n = 605).

Background: Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) is the most advanced stage of peripheral artery disease. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach is necessary to avoid major amputation in CLTI patients. Malnutrition worsens the condition of CLTI patients, and therefore, it may be important to evaluate the nutritional status in patients with CLTI.

Objective Hepatitis C virus (HCV) eradication is associated with decreased serum ferritin and increased serum low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) levels, although the mechanisms underlying these changes remain unclear. This study aimed to identify the mechanisms underlying the changes in iron and lipid metabolism after HCV eradication. Methods We retrospectively investigated iron and lipid metabolism changes in 22 patients with chronic hepatitis or compensated liver cirrhosis with HCV genotype 1b infection after HCV eradication.

Materials And Methods: Male apolipoprotein E-knockout mice fed a high-fat diet were divided into control (CTL), valsartan (30 mg/kg) (VAL), sacubitril (30 mg/kg) (SAC), and valsartan plus sacubitril (30 mg/kg each) (VAL/SAC) groups after 4 weeks of prefeeding and were subsequently treated for 12 weeks.
Results: The VAL/SAC group exhibited significantly higher serum brain natriuretic peptide levels; more subtle changes in left ventricular systolic diameter, fractional shortening, and ejection fraction, and significantly higher expression levels of natriuretic peptide precursor B and markers of angiogenesis, including clusters of differentiation 34, vascular endothelial growth factor A, and monocyte chemotactic protein 1, than the CTL group.
Conclusions: Valsartan plus sacubitril preserved left ventricular systolic function in apolipoprotein E-knockout mice fed a high-fat diet.

[Purpose] This study aimed to examine whether pulmonary oxygen uptake on-kinetics at the onset of moderate-intensity exercise can predict acute cardiovascular responses to resistance exercise. [Participants and Methods] The association between pulmonary oxygen uptake on-kinetics and acute cardiovascular responses to a single resistance exercise session was investigated in seven patients with low-risk coronary artery disease who underwent revascularization through percutaneous coronary intervention. The participants performed a cardiopulmonary exercise test on a cycle ergometer and a single resistance exercise session at 30% of maximum voluntary contraction on a bilateral leg-extension machine 1 week after surgery.
