Department of Oral Anatomy and Developmental Biology, School of Dentistry, Showa University, 1-5-8 Hatanodai, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, 142-8555, Japan.

We previously reported that the injection of nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate (NBP) induced the site of erythropoiesis to shift from the bone marrow (BM) to the spleen. Our previous study established a severely anemic mouse model that was treated with a combination of NBP with phenylhydrazine (PHZ), which induced newly discovered hematopoietic organs in the omentum. No reports have shown that new hematopoietic organs form under any condition.

The causes of early degeneration and calcification of the nucleus pulposus in the chondrodystrophoid dog are poorly understood, and the underlying molecular mechanism of this process has not yet been clearly defined. Type X collagen is one of the key molecules in endochondral bone growth and development, especially matrix calcification. The relationship between type X collagen and disc degeneration and calcification in chondrodystrophoid dogs has not yet been studied.

Background: Several reconstructive surgical techniques have been proposed for restoring pancreatico-jejunal continuity. Little has been done, however, to evaluate the efficacy of tissue engineering on anastomotic healing. We examined the effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) incorporated in gelatin hydrogel (GH) microspheres on the anastomotic healing of pancreaticojejunostomy.

A new type of inherited chondrodysplasia is described in Japanese Brown cattle, but the basic defects of the epiphyseal growth plate (EGP) in the limb long bones, and proliferation and differentiation of the chondrocytes in the EGP, are not yet understood. In the present study, the EGPs of the limb long bones in eight cases of chondrodysplasia and four normal (control) cattle were examined histologically and immunohistochemically. In the control cattle, proliferative chondrocytes (PCs) and hypertrophic chondrocytes (HCs) were arranged in columns parallel to the long axis of the bone, and HCs were situated on the metaphyseal side of the EGP.

Department of Reproduction, Nippon Veterinary and Animal Science University, Musashino-shi, Tokyo 180-8602, Japan.

Artificial insemination (AI) in cats represents an important technique for increasing the contribution of genetically valuable individuals in specific populations, whether they be highly pedigreed purebred cats, medically important laboratory cats or endangered non-domestic cats. Semen is collected using electrical stimulation, with an artificial vagina or from intact or excised cauda epididymis. Sperm samples can be used for AI immediately after collection, after temporary storage above 0 degrees C or after cryopreservation.
