Purpose: Blackberries are rich in polyphenols and are a human health food continuously consumed to improve health and reduce diseases caused by aging. Herein, we evaluated the effects of daily blackberry administration before and after transient cerebral ischemia in gerbils.

Background/aim: Ischemic stroke is a major health concern globally and developing reliable animal models is crucial for understanding its pathophysiology. This study evaluated the relationship between cerebral angiographic findings and neurologic dysfunction in an acute non-human primate thromboembolic stroke model and determined the minimum clot length for suitable middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion.
Materials And Methods: A thromboembolic stroke model was developed by injecting autologous blood clots (length: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 cm, n=1 to 3, 14 monkeys in total) into the internal carotid artery of male cynomolgus monkeys.

A 10-year-old spayed mixed breed dog presented with severe neurological signs. Computed tomography revealed a cranial mediastinal mass, osteolysis of the right second rib and second thoracic vertebra, tracheobronchial and mesenteric lymph node enlargement, pneumonia and pleural effusion. Magnetic resonance imaging detected lesions in the white matter of the right frontal lobe and left cerebral hemisphere with contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images showing demarcated enhancement.

Pimobendan is not currently approved for use in cats, although its usefulness in feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy has been suggested. Reports indicate an increase in arrhythmic events following oral administration to healthy cats. Given the greater potency of intravenous administration compared to oral intake, it is conceivable that the incidence of arrhythmias may be increased following pimobendan injection.

The structure of cellular prion proteins encoded by the prion protein gene (PRNP) impacts susceptibility to transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, including chronic wasting disease (CWD) in deer. The recent emergence of CWD in Northern European reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), moose (Alces alces alces) and red deer (Cervus elaphus), in parallel with the outbreak in North America, gives reason to investigate PRNP variation in European deer, to implement risk assessments and adjust CWD management for deer populations under threat. We here report PRNP-sequence data from 911 samples of German red, roe (Capreolus capreolus), sika (Cervus nippon) and fallow deer (Dama dama) as well as additional data from 26 Danish red deer close to the German border and four zoo species not native to Germany.

Fasciolosis is a food-borne parasitic disease, caused by the large liver fluke, Fasciola. Humans acquire infection by ingesting fresh or undercooked water plants, on which infective metacercaria encyst. Fryers used in restaurants to cook large quantities of food are typically cleaned using neutral kitchen detergents at the end of the day after removing the oil from the tank. We investigated the contents inside the esophagus and stomach of turtles inside and outside of the Tokyo Bay area, which face high and low risks of microplastic (MP) exposure, respectively. 65 synthetic particles were recovered from 8 out of 22 turtles, using ATR-FTIR followed by density separation with calcium chloride solution. Statistical analysis indicated that turtles in high-risk areas ingested significantly more MPs than those in low-risk areas.
