Background And Aims: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is an inherited arrhythmia with a higher disease prevalence and more lethal arrhythmic events in Asians than in Europeans. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have revealed its polygenic architecture mainly in European populations. The aim of this study was to identify novel BrS-associated loci and to compare allelic effects across ancestries.

Background: It was recently reported that thin-cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) detected by optical coherence tomography was an independent predictor of future cardiac events in patients with diabetes. However, the clinical usefulness of this finding is limited by the invasive nature of optical coherence tomography. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) characteristics of TCFA have not been systematically studied.

Background And Purpose: Idiopathic dendriform pulmonary ossification (DPO) is mostly asymptomatic, and detected incidentally in lung CT. There have been no reports on the precise CT-pathologic correlation and the prevalence of idiopathic DPO. This study aimed to clarify the histological background and prevalence of idiopathic DPO.

In Japan, pediatric urinary screening in schools for asymptomatic hematuria and proteinuria began in 1974 and has been very successful in detecting asymptomatic kidney diseases at an early stage. While the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended discontinuing urinalysis as a public health service in 2007, urinary screening in Japan has proven extremely successful in reducing the incidence of kidney failure with replacement therapy in children and young adults, especially through the early treatment of glomerulonephritis, such as immunoglobulin A nephropathy. Furthermore, the positivity rate on urinary screening in Japan is significantly lower than in the United States where the rate of false positive results is typically very high.

Background: In compatible with fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) of the computed tomography (CT) classification using the American Thoracic Society (ATS)/Japanese Respiratory Society (JRS)/Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT) HP guidelines, the lung fibrosis pattern was classified as either a usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern or a diffuse ground-glass opacity (GGO) pattern with subtle fibrosis. We investigated whether patients with the same imaging classification had different disease progression. We also attempted to reclassify these patients using the CHEST HP guidelines.

Cisplatin (CDDP) is a platinum-based drug with anti-cancer activity and is widely used as a standard therapy for bladder cancer. It is well known that CDDP causes cell death by increasing the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation, but the mechanism of its anti-cancer effects has not been fully elucidated. There are still some problems such as chemoresistance in CDDP therapy.

In patients with high-risk prostate cancer (HRPC) after radical prostatectomy (RP), biochemical recurrence (BCR) increases the risk of distant metastasis. Accordingly, additional prognostic biomarkers are required to identify the subpopulation of patients with HRPC who develop clinical recurrence (CR) after BCR. The objective of this study was to identify biomarkers in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) RP samples that are prognostic for CR in patients with HRPC who experience BCR after RP (post-RP BCR).

In recent years, bedside ultrasound examinations have been used in many clinical departments and are called point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Regarding POCUS in the cardiac field, a protocol called focus (focused) cardiac ultrasound (FoCUS) has been developed in Europe and the United States, is being used clinically, and an educational syllabus has been created. According to them, FoCUS is defined as a point-of-care cardiac ultrasound examination using standardized limited sections and protocols.

Background: The pandemic presented unique challenges for individuals with autoimmune and rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) due to their underlying condition, the effects of immunosuppressive treatments, and increased vaccine hesitancy.
Objectives: The COVID-19 vaccination in autoimmune diseases (COVAD) study, a series of ongoing, patient self-reported surveys were conceived with the vision of being a unique tool to gather patient perspectives on AIRDs. It involved a multinational, multicenter collaborative effort amidst a global lockdown.

Objectives: In the present study, we performed a detailed analysis of deglutitive dynamics during sleep in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using a methodology developed by Sato et al. We hypothesized that the frequency of deglutition would decrease with increasing severity of OSA. The aim of this study is to clarify the involvement of deglutitive dynamics during sleep in OSA by investigating the correlations between deglutition and sleep parameters.

Objectives: To characterize clinically distinct subgroups among unselected patients with anti-synthetase antibodies using cluster analysis.
Methods: This study evaluated patients with anti-synthetase antibodies registered to two independent cohorts; 106 consecutive patients from a prospective, single-centre cohort of the Scleroderma/Myositis Centre of Excellence (SMCE) were used as a derivation cohort and 125 patients from the Multicentre Retrospective Cohort of Japanese Patients with Myositis-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease (JAMI) were used as a validation cohort. Anti-synthetase antibodies were identified by RNA immunoprecipitation.
