The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of combining specific adhesive materials and various surface treatments on bonding durability and microleakage of vertically fractured roots. Adhesive models were prepared using bovine lower incisors. The experiment included the following five groups: SB-G group (control) (10% citric acid with 3% ferric chloride solution (10-3 solution) + an adhesive resin cement (4-META/MMA-TBB; Super-Bond)), EC group (self-cure bonding agent (UB) + core composite resin (EC)), EC-G group (10-3 solution + UB + EC), EC-P group (40% phosphate solution + UB + EC), and EC-E group (18% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) solution + UB + EC).

Background/aim: Root length is a critical factor for dental pulp regeneration following tooth replantation. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of reducing the root length by apicoectomy on the pulp healing process using a model for tooth replantation.
Material And Methods: After extraction of the upper first molars (M1) of 3-week-old mice, the roots from the experimental group (EG) were shortened to half to two-thirds of their length before replantation, whereas in the control group (CG) the extracted teeth were immediately repositioned into their alveolar sockets.

Photocatalysts have attracted attention in the medical field for their antibacterial effects. However, typical photocatalysts are activated by ultraviolet rays, which may have adverse effects. Therefore, we focused on a new photocatalyst that is activated by visible light, hydroxyapatite (HAp), and amino acid complex with gray titania, and evaluated its antibacterial effects against Porphyromonas gingivalis and effect by toothbrushing.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of additional hydroxyapatite (HA) in collagen-based matrices (CM) and membrane placement on bone formation in calvarial defects. Critical size defects in the calvaria of 16 New Zealand White Rabbits were randomly treated with CM or mineralized collagen-based matrices (mCM). Half of the sites were covered with a collagen membrane.

Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the relationships between the crown form of the upper central incisor and their labial inclination, overbite, and overjet.
Materials And Methods: Maxillary and mandibular casts of 169 healthy dentitions were subjected to 3D dental scanning, and analyzed using CAD software. The crown forms were divided into tapered, square, and ovoid based on the mesiodistal dimensions at 20% of the crown height to that at 40%.

The activity of mouthwash ingredients used in daily oral care (chlorhexidine digluconate, benzalkonium chloride, povidone iodine solution, tea tree oil) and of nystatin was evaluated not only on planktonic Candida albicans or C. glabrata, but also on the inhibition of biofilm formation. A microbroth dilution technique was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration of the substances against two laboratory strains and seven clinical isolates.

Tooth plates of the chimaeroids, holocephalian fishes, are unique dental hard tissues. Unlike the teeth of other animals, the tooth plates are located on the roof of the mouth and in the lower jaw. Their tooth plates consist, to a large extent, of lightly mineralized tissue (osteodentin) and hypermineralized tissue (pleromin).

A previous study indicated that the swallowing reflex is inhibited during rhythmic jaw movements induced by electrical stimulation of the anterior cortical masticatory area. Rhythmic jaw movements were induced by electrical stimulation of the central amygdaloid nucleus (CeA). The swallowing central pattern generator is the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) and the lateral reticular formation in the medulla.

Capsaicin powerfully evokes the swallowing reflex and is a known therapeutic agent for improving dysphagia and preventing aspiration pneumonia. However, the role of capsaicin-sensitive nerves in the initiation of swallowing evoked by various natural stimuli remains unclear. To explore this question, we blocked laryngeal capsaicin-sensitive nerves following the coapplication of QX-314 and capsaicin (QX/Cap), and investigated the effects on swallowing evoked by mechanical and chemical stimulation in anesthetized rats.

The sequential oral functions of mastication and swallowing are well tuned in humans. To prevent oral hypofunction as a risk factor for systemic frailty by oral motor training, semi-powered exoskeleton was developed and evaluated its loading/assist effects by monitoring electromyography signals and saliva secretion in healthy persons. The actuator of the driving unit combined mechanical and powered mechanics and was driven alternatively by an unpowered stainless-steel spring system for jaw-opening training by loading and a powered shape-memory alloy spring system to assist jaw closing.

Currently, it is difficult to extract exosomes with stable physicochemical properties from saliva. Furthermore, due to inadequate availability of basic data, the application of salivary exosomes as a diagnostic material is limited. In this study, we aimed to investigate an easier method for extraction of exosomes from whole saliva and compared proteins in salivary exosomes derived from subjects of two age groups.
