Background: Primary malignant melanoma (MM) of skin threatens health, especially in the older population, causing a significant risk of early death. The purpose of this study was to establish a diagnostic nomogram to predict the early mortality risk in older patients with primary skin MM and to determine the independent risk factors of cancer-specific early death in such patients.
Methods: The Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database provided the clinical and pathological characteristics of older patients with primary skin MM from 2000 to 2019.

Age-related osteoporosis manifests as a complex pathology that disrupts bone homeostasis and elevates fracture risk, yet the mechanisms facilitating age-related shifts in bone marrow macrophages/osteoclasts (BMMs/OCs) lineage are not fully understood. To decipher these mechanisms, we conducted an investigation into the determinants controlling BMMs/OCs differentiation. We performed single-cell multi-omics profiling on bone marrow samples from mice of different ages (1, 6, and 20 months) to gain a holistic understanding of cellular changes across time.

Retinal ischemia is an ophthalmic emergency often caused by cardiovascular diseases, leading to irreversible vision loss and even blindness. Innovative retinal ischemia treatments are needed due to limited options. The pathological mechanisms involve retinal cell apoptosis and microglial activation.

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition characterized by a dysregulation of the host response to infection that can lead to acute lung injury (ALI) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of sepsis and its complications.
Aim: To investigate the relationship among plasma IL-6 levels, risk of ALI, and disease severity in critically ill patients with sepsis.

Objective: To explore the diagnostic value of micropure imaging (MI) combined with strain elastography (SE) in correcting artificial intelligence (AI) S-Detect technology for benign and malignant breast complex cystic and solid masses.
Methods: The S-Detect diagnosis results were corrected based on the manifestations of MI and SE of the 145 breast complex cystic and solid masses. Postoperative pathological results were used as the gold standard to calculate the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy before and after correction.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), including its more severe manifestation nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is a global public health challenge. Here, we explore the role of deubiquitinating enzyme RPN11 in NAFLD and NASH. Hepatocyte-specific RPN11 knockout mice are protected from diet-induced liver steatosis, insulin resistance, and steatohepatitis.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a chronic degenerative disease involving the aging and loss of proliferative capacity of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs), processes heavily dependent on mitochondrial dynamics and autophagic flux. This study finds that the absence of BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa interacting protein 3 (BNIP3) is associated with senescence-related NPC degeneration, disrupting mitochondrial quality control. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have multidirectional differentiation potential and produce extracellular vesicles containing cellular activators.

Maxillofacial bone defects exhibit intricate anatomy and irregular morphology, presenting challenges for effective treatment. This study aimed to address these challenges by developing an injectable bioactive composite microsphere, termed D-P-Ak (polydopamine-PLGA-akermanite), designed to fit within the defect site while minimizing injury. The D-P-Ak microspheres biodegraded gradually, releasing calcium, magnesium, and silicon ions, which, notably, not only directly stimulated the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) but also activated sensory nerve cells to secrete calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), a key factor in bone repair.

Recent advances in tumor molecular subtyping have revolutionized precision oncology, offering novel avenues for patient-specific treatment strategies. However, a comprehensive and independent comparison of these subtyping methodologies remains unexplored. This study introduces 'Themis' (Tumor HEterogeneity analysis on Molecular subtypIng System), an evaluation platform that encapsulates a few representative tumor molecular subtyping methods, including Stemness, Anoikis, Metabolism, and pathway-based classifications, utilizing 38 test datasets curated from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and significant studies.

Rationale And Objectives: Postoperative pelvic radiographs remain a vital tool for assessing cup orientation after total hip arthroplasty (THA), with the accuracy influenced by various factors. The objective of this study is to investigate the accuracy of cup anteversion measurement in developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) patients and others based on postoperative pelvic radiographs conducted under the current heavy workload conditions.
Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent THA at our hospital with both postoperative X-ray and CT images from January 2020 to December 2022 were included in this retrospective cohort study.

Background: Post-anesthetic emergence agitation is common after general anesthesia and may cause adverse consequences, such as injury as well as respiratory and circulatory complications. Emergence agitation after general anesthesia occurs more frequently in nasal surgery than in other surgical procedures. This study aimed to assess the occurrence of emergence agitation in patients undergoing nasal surgery who were extubated under deep anesthesia or when fully awake.

Melasma is an acquired hypermelanotic condition characterized by the presence of irregular light-to-dark brown macules that primarily manifest on the sun-exposed areas of the skin, particularly the face. The management of melasma poses significant challenges, as it is often recalcitrant to treatment and tends to recur despite successful treatment. In this study, we explored a safe, easy, and effective melasma treatment strategy.

Tendon adhesion is a common complication after tendon injury with the development of accumulated fibrotic tissues without effective anti-fibrotic therapies, resulting in severe disability. Macrophages are widely recognized as a fibrotic trigger during peritendinous adhesion formation. However, different clusters of macrophages have various functions and receive multiple regulation, which are both still unknown.
