Disturbances of the intestinal barrier enabling bacterial translocation exacerbate alcoholic liver disease (ALD). GG (LGG) has been shown to exert beneficial effects in gut dysbiosis and chronic liver disease. The current study assessed the combined effects of LGG and metformin, which play roles in anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory processes, in alcohol-induced liver disease mice.

Self-healing hydrogels can autonomously repair damage, enhancing their performance stability and broadening their applications as soft devices. Although the incorporation of dynamic interactions enhances self-healing capabilities, it simultaneously weakens the hydrogels' strength. External stimuli such as heating, while accelerating the healing process, may also lead to dehydration.

The clinical application of doxorubicin (DOX) is limited due to its cardiotoxicity, which is primarily attributed to its interaction with iron in mitochondria, leading to lipid peroxidation and myocardial ferroptosis. This study aimed to investigate the role of the gut microbiota-derived metabolite, indole-3-lactic acid (ILA), in mitigating DOX-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC). Cardiac function, pathological changes, and myocardial ferroptosis were assessed in vivo.

Cardiovascular disease continues to be a major contributor to global morbidity and mortality, with environmental and occupational factors such as air pollution, noise, and shift work increasingly recognized as potential contributors. Using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, this study investigates the causal relationships of these risk factors with the risks of unstable angina (UA) and myocardial infarction (MI). Leveraging single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) as genetic instruments, a comprehensive MR study was used to assess the causal influence of four major air pollutants (PM, PM, NO, and NO), noise, and shift work on unstable angina and myocardial infarction.

is an important source of natural β-carotene (containing and isomers) for industrial production. The phytohormone salicylic acid (SA) has been proven to have impacts on the stress resistance of higher plants, but research on microalgae is currently unclear. In this study, the effects of SA on the growth, biochemical composition, antioxidant enzyme activity, key enzymes of β-carotene synthesis, and cis-and trans-isomers of β-carotene in under different salt concentrations were investigated.

A notable feature of systems with non-Hermitian skin effects is the sensitivity to boundary conditions. In this work, we introduce one type of boundary condition provided by a coupling impurity. We consider a system where a two-level system as an impurity couples to a nonreciprocal Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain under periodic boundary conditions at two points with asymmetric couplings.

Arbitrary translational Six Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) video represents a transitional stage towards immersive terminal videos, allowing users to freely switch viewpoints for a 3D scene experience. However, the increased freedom of movement introduces new distortions that significantly impact human visual perception quality. Therefore, it is crucial to explore quality assessment (QA) to validate its application feasibility.

Existing research has primarily focused on the influence of the native language on second language (L2) acquisition and processing, with less attention given to whether L2 acquisition affects native language processing. This study examines Chinese learners of Japanese, focusing on the orthographic and phonological similarities between two-character words in Chinese and Japanese. It investigates how these similarities affect native Chinese lexical processing at intermediate and advanced stages of Japanese learning and explores the predictive effect of L2 lexical processing efficiency on native language lexical processing efficiency at different stages of L2 learning.

To investigate the mechanism of Rhodotorula mucilaginosa on structural protein degradation and taste development of Jinhua ham, the effects of Rhodotorula mucilaginosa and Pichia kudriavzevii on proteolytic enzyme activities, surface hydrophobicity, myofibril microstructure, protein degradation, free amino acids and sensory attributes were investigated during the dry-ripening of Jinhua ham. The inoculation of Rhodotorula mucilaginosa EIODSF019 (RE) and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa XZY63-3 (RX) consistently exhibited higher proteolytic enzyme activities compared with Pichia kudriavzevii XS-5 (PK). The decrease of α-helix exposing more internal hydrophobic groups of myofibrillar proteins, contributed to higher surface hydrophobicity of RE compared with PK and RX.

It is especially essential to develop high-performance and low-cost nonprecious metal catalysts for large-scale hydrogen production. A large number of electrochemical catalysts composited by transition metal centers has been reported; however, it is still a great challenge to design and manipulate target electrocatalysts to realize high overall water-splitting activity at the atomic level. Herein, we develop totally new P-(Fe,V)-codoped metastable-phase β-NiMoO.

The types and quantities of microorganisms in activated sludge are directly related to the stability and efficiency of sewage treatment systems. This paper proposes a sludge microorganism detection method based on microscopic phase contrast image optimisation and deep learning. Firstly, a dataset containing eight types of microorganisms is constructed, and an augmentation strategy based on single and multisamples processing is designed to address the issues of sample deficiency and uneven distribution.

Broad-temperature optical thermometry necessitates materials with exceptional sensitivity and stability across varied thermal conditions, presenting challenges for conventional systems. Here, we report a lead-free, vacancy-ordered perovskite Cs2TeCl6, that achieves precise temperature sensing through a novel combination of self-trapped excitons (STEs) photoluminescence (PL) lifetime modulation and unprecedented fifth-order phonon anharmonicity. The STEs PL lifetime demonstrates a highly temperature-sensitive response from 200 to 300 K, ideal for low-to-intermediate thermal sensing.

Aims: The suitability of the DOAC score for assessing bleeding risk in Chinese patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who are receiving non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) remains unclear. We compared the DOAC score to the HAS-BLED and ORBIT scores in Chinese patients in a real-world retrospective study.
Methods: The efficacy of these scores was assessed by a comparison study that measured their discrimination, calibration, net reclassification index (NRI), and decision curve analysis (DCA) over a 1-year follow-up period.
