Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how different materials for crowns and abutments impact the fatigue failure of single implant-supported crowns, which is important for their longevity under cyclic stress.
  • Ten designs were tested, including various ceramic and polymer materials, using a specific loading method to simulate real-life conditions.
  • Results showed that titanium abutments led to more rapid fatigue failure, while zirconia abutments demonstrated better durability, suggesting that choosing the right abutment material can enhance the lifespan of implant-supported crowns.

Investigation of the Effects of Thymoquinone and Dental Pulp-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Tibial Bone Defect Models.

J Craniofac Surg

October 2024

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Dicle University, Diyarbakir, Turkiye.

The thymoquinone obtained from Nigella sativa increases osteoblastic activity and significantly reduces the number of osteoclasts, thereby accelerating bone healing. In addition, mesenchymal stem cells isolated from various tissues are considered a potential cell source for bone regenerative therapies. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of thymoquinone, a current and novel agent, in combination with mesenchymal stem cells derived from the dental pulp in promoting bone healing.

Background: This Finite Element Analysis was conducted to analyze the biomechanical behaviors of titanium base abutments and several crown materials with respect to fatigue lifetime and stress distribution in implants and prosthetic components.

Methods: Five distinct designs of implant-supported single crowns were modeled, including a polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polymer-infiltrated ceramic network, monolithic lithium disilicate, and precrystallized and crystallized zirconia-reinforced lithium silicates supported by a titanium base abutment. For the static load, a 100 N oblique load was applied to the buccal incline of the palatal cusp of the maxillary right first premolar.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of office bleaching of teeth bonded with Transbond XT (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA) (TRXT) and the use of color change resistant Orthocem (FGM, Joinville, Brazil) in bracket bonding on coffee-induced enamel discoloration.

Materials And Methods: Eighty premolars were distributed in equal numbers (n = 20) to group 1 (TRXT + distilled water), group 2 (TRXT + coffee solution), group 3 (TRXT + coffee solution + bleaching), and group 4 (Orthocem + coffee solution). Color was measured using a SpectroShade Micro (MHT, International, Verona, Italy) device at the beginning (T0), after coloring (T1), after bleaching (T1B), and after debonding (T2).

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated the effectiveness of posterior composite resin restorations (PCRRs) in 54 patients, focusing on how specific patient factors influence their success rates.
  • Results showed that patients over 50 had higher decay rates and more unsuccessful restorations, while factors like secondary caries and plaque levels were crucial to restoration survival.
  • Despite some correlations, lifestyle factors like oral hygiene habits did not significantly impact restoration outcomes, suggesting that patient monitoring and personalized strategies are essential for long-term success.
