The HLA-A*24:02-restricted peptide vaccine targeting Wilms' tumor 1 (WT1) (WT1 vaccine) is a promising therapeutic strategy for ovarian cancer; however, its efficacy varies among patients. In this study, we analyzed WT1-specific immune responses in patients with advanced or recurrent ovarian cancer that was refractory to standard chemotherapies and their associations with clinical outcomes. In 25 patients, the WT1 vaccine was administered subcutaneously weekly for 3 months and biweekly thereafter until disease progression or severe adverse events.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has been used to prevent chronic HPV infection, which accounts for cervical cancer. Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) conducted an HPV vaccination campaign in 2010 and the Obstetrical Gynecological Society of Osaka initiated a multicenter, prospective cohort study in Osaka, Japan - OCEAN (Osaka Clinical resEArch of HPV vacciNe) study - to investigate the oncogenic HPV prevalence and the long-term protection rate of HPV vaccine. Aim: To provide information including the trend of gynecological malignancies in Japan, we hereby present the Annual Patient Report for 2015 and the Annual Treatment Report for 2010 on the outcomes of patients who started treatment in 2010.

Recently, many types of in vitro 3-D culture systems have been developed to recapitulate the in vivo growth conditions of cancer. The cancer 3-D culture methods aim to preserve the biological characteristics of original tumors better than conventional 2-D monolayer cultures, and include tumor-derived organoids, tumor-derived spheroids, organotypic multicellular spheroids, and multicellular tumor spheroids. Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) peritonitis is a common problem in patients on peritoneal dialysis, and the bacteriological diagnosis is important for the treatment of this condition. We used Hybrizep (a method for detecting the genes of bacteria ingested in phagocytes), to detect the causative bacterium in a 50-year-old woman receiving peritoneal dialysis who was admitted our hospital with bacterial peritonitis. The test, using peritoneal dialysis fluid, was positive for Streptococcus epidermidis.

Rhabdomyolysis after simvastatin therapy in an HIV-infected patient with chronic renal failure.

He recovered after initiating hemodialysis and discontinuing oral medications. Rhabdomyolysis most likely resulted from an excessive blood concentration of simvastatin caused by concomitant use of fluconazole in the presence of renal insufficiency.

Skeletal resistance to parathyroid hormone (PTH) is one of the major abnormalities underlying bone diseases in uremia, the mechanism of which has not yet been fully elucidated. Osteoclastogenesis inhibitory factor (OCIF), or osteoprotegerin, is a natural decoy receptor for osteoclast differentiation factor (ODF), produced by osteoblasts in response to PTH.
