Purpose: Although there is concern about the association of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) use with musculoskeletal pain, hypovolemia, and urinary tract infection in patients with severe chronic kidney disease (CKD), information on these adverse events is insufficient. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess whether SGLT2i increases the risk of urinary tract infection, hypovolemia, and musculoskeletal pain in these patients.
Methods: MEDLINE via PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the ClinicalTrials.

Background: Opioids often need to be discontinued because they cause nausea, whereas the administration of intravenous acetaminophen (APAP) causes less nausea and vomiting. This study aimed to compare the effects of fentanyl-based intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) and intravenous APAP on pain and nausea after total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: We prospectively investigated primary THA patients who underwent the anterolateral supine approach at four centers between October 2021 and October 2022.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that the point prevalence of back pain ranges from 12 % to 33 % and that the lifetime prevalence of back pain ranges from 28 % to 51 % in adolescents. However, few studies on back pain in patients with Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) have been conducted, and these studies had significant limitations, including a lack of comparative controls and detailed information about scoliotic deformity or pain location. This study aimed to determine whether adolescents with AIS experience back pain in specific regions.

Teriparatide (TPTD) administration has a potent osteogenic action and promotes the healing of osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVFs). We aimed to investigate the outcomes of vertebroplasty with posterior spinal fusion (VP + PSF) and determine the impact of perioperative TPTD administration. We included 73 patients (18 male and 55 female patients; mean age: 78 years) with thoracolumbar OVFs who underwent VP + PSF and were followed-up for at least 2 years.

Endochondral ossification is regulated by transcription factors that include SRY-box transcription factor 9, runt-related protein 2 (Runx2), and Osterix. However, the sequential and harmonious regulation of the multiple steps of endochondral ossification is unclear. This study identified zinc finger homeodomain 4 (Zfhx4) as a crucial transcriptional partner of Osterix.

The Vulnerable Elders Survey-13 (VES-13) is a well-studied simplified frailty screening tool for elderly patients in the oncology setting. We conducted a prospective clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dose-adjusted treatment based on the VES-13 in transplant-ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM). In the Fit group (VES-13 <3), patients were treated with 4 cycles of standard-dose VCD (bortezomib, cyclophosphamide, and dexamethasone) followed by 4 cycles of standard-dose VTD (bortezomib, thalidomide, and dexamethasone).

Background: Although pelvic incidence (PI) is a key morphologic parameter in assessing spinopelvic sagittal alignment, accurate measurements of PI become difficult in patients with severe hip dislocation or femoral head deformities. This study aimed to investigate the reliability of our novel morphologic parameters and the correlations with established sagittal spinopelvic parameters.
Methods: One hundred healthy volunteers (25 male and 75 female), with an average age of 38.

Background: This study was conducted to determine gender differences in the relationship between extracurricular sports activities (ECSA) and low back pain (LBP) in children and adolescents.
Methods: In a cohort analysis of a 6-year birth cohort annual survey, students were followed from the fourth to sixth grades of elementary school (E4-E6; 9-12 years old) through the first to third grades of junior high school (J1-J3; 12-15 years old). All students completed annual questionnaires on ECSA and LBP.

Segmental ureterectomy (SU) represents a promising alternative for the treatment of upper tract urothelial carcinomas (UTUCs) as it is a less invasive procedure and guarantees the preservation of renal units. The present study evaluated oncological outcomes and renal functions following SU when compared with radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). A total of 26 patients with UTUCs who underwent SU (n=12) or RNU (n=14) were retrospectively evaluated.

Purpose: Posterior decompression with instrumented fusion (PDF) is a suitable surgical treatment for K-line (-)-type cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). However, the adequate indications of PDF have not been clarified yet. The purpose of this study was to investigate the surgical results of PDF and perioperative factors that influence the surgical outcome, and to clarify the adequate indications of PDF.

To evaluate the 'One Stretch' exercise's effect on improvements in low back pain (LBP), psychological factors, and fear avoidance in a large number of nurses. Between July 2015 and June 2016, we performed a prospective, randomized, parallel-group, multi-center study with central evaluations. Eligible patients were randomly assigned (1:1:1 ratio) to either the control group (Group A) or an intervention group (Group B: 30-min seminar about the 'One Stretch' exercise, Group C: B + physical and psychological approaches to LBP treatment).

Multiphase arterial spin labeling (ASL), which obtains the imaged slices with various postlabeling delays, allows for the noninvasive assessment of cerebral hemodynamics that cannot be adequately acquired by single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging. We describe the clinical usefulness of multiphase ASL in a patient with symptomatic carotid stenosis by comparison with SPECT at rest using iodoamphetamine. A 75-year-old man was referred to our hospital with severe stenosis of the left internal carotid artery (ICA).

Background: Giant thrombosed aneurysms often present with thickened walls and a hard thrombus, including in the near-neck aneurysmal sac. These usually make it difficult to achieve complete neck clipping with preservation of local branch patency. Here, we demonstrate a simple but safe and effective technique to overcome these problems in a patient with a 6-cm giant thrombosed distal anterior cerebral artery aneurysm.

Introduction: Distal medial lenticulostriate artery (LSA) aneurysms associated with isolated intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) are extremely rare. We report a very rare case of the isolated IVH due to the rupture of the distal medial LSA pseudoaneurysm that was not visible at the initial angiography but later emerged and grew.
Case Report: A 61-year-old woman with a history of hypertension had sudden onset of severe headache and mild consciousness disturbance.

AT motif binding factor 1 (ATBF1) is a transcriptional regulator that functions as a tumour suppressor to negatively affect cancer cell growth. In the present study four specific polyclonal antibodies against ATBF1 were generated, and the expression and intracellular localization of ATBF1 in colonic mucosae, polyps, adenoma and adenocarcinoma tissue samples were investigated. The four polyclonal antibodies produced were as follows: MB34 and MB49, which recognize the N‑ and C‑terminal fragments of ATBF1, respectively; and D1‑120 and MB44, which recognize the middle fragments of ATBF1 that contain three nuclear localization signals (NLS).

IL-33 is one of the critical cytokines that activates group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and mediates allergic reactions. Accumulating evidence suggests that IL-33 is also involved in the pathogenesis of several chronic inflammatory diseases. Previously, we generated an IL-5 reporter mouse and revealed that lung IL-5-producing ILC2s played essential roles in regulating eosinophil biology.

Background: Pathological stage and grade have limited ability to predict the outcomes of superficial urothelial bladder carcinoma at initial transurethral resection (TUR). AT-motif binding factor 1 (ATBF1) is a tumor suppressive transcription factor that is normally localized to the nucleus but has been detected in the cytoplasm in several cancers. Here, we examined the diagnostic value of the intracellular localization of ATBF1 as a marker for the identification of high risk urothelial bladder carcinoma.
