Peritoneal dialysis (PD)-associated peritonitis remains a serious and life-threatening complication in patients undergoing PD. Majority of peritonitis cases are caused by bacteria, with coagulase-negative Staphylococcus being the most common cause. Tsukamurella species are obligate aerobic gram-positive bacilli found in various environments; however, peritonitis caused by Tsukamurella species in association with PD is rare, with few reports of infections caused by T.

Key Points: Little is known about the clinicopathological characteristics and renal outcomes in the patients with gross hematuria (GH) after the vaccination. To fill a clinicopathological knowledge gap regarding vaccination and GH, we conducted a nationwide multicenter prospective cohort study. GH is more likely to occur in patients with IgA nephropathy, with a female bias, but without progressive exacerbation of renal function.

Carbamazepine (CBZ) intoxication can occur due to various factors, including drug interactions and over-ingestion. Extracorporeal elimination, particularly through hemodialysis and hemoperfusion, is effective in treating severe carbamazepine intoxication. However, as the effectiveness of various modalities can differ, method selection may be based on a specific clinical situation.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a severe demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, is caused by the reactivation of the polyomavirus JC virus (JCV). It favors the cerebrum and typically occurs in patients with immunodeficiencies, with a progressive course and fatal outcome in the majority of cases. However, the cerebellar form of PML, characterized by isolated posterior fossa lesions, such as those in the cerebellum or brainstem at disease onset, is rare, and reports of its occurrence in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients are lacking.

Rotavirus (RV) vaccines were first introduced in 2011 and adopted for universal vaccination in 2020 in Japan. However, the effectiveness of RV vaccines after being adopted for universal vaccination in 2020 has not been reported. Because of the easy accessibility of clinics in Japan, many children are not usually hospitalized for RV gastroenteritis (RVGE).

Objectives: This study validated the Japanese version of the Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder-Rating Scale-5 (ADHD-RS-5) and the Disruptive Behavior Disorders Rating Scale. We extended the ADHD-RS-5 by adding the oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder subscales to compare the two rating scales psychometrically.
Methods: We examined the internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct validity and criterion validity of the two rating scales in 135 Japanese outpatients aged 6-18 years.

Introduction: Vitamin D deficiency causes osteoporosis, bone mineralization disorders, and osteomalacia. Osteomalacia is diagnosed using blood biochemical tests, clinical symptoms, and imaging; however, accurate detection of mineralization disorders requires tissue observation. We investigated the prevalence of bone mineralization disorders and their relationship with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels in patients with untreated osteoporosis with femoral neck fractures.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to the external rotation of the femur during knee flexion.
Methods: Three-dimensional (3D) digital models of the femur and tibia were reconstructed from computed tomography images of 41 healthy Japanese subjects. Thirteen parameters related to femoral and tibial morphology and alignment of the lower extremities were evaluated, including the inclination angle of the posterior lateral and medial femoral condyles, the ratio of the medial and lateral posterior condyle radii approximated as spheres, the spherical condylar angle, the posterior condylar angle, the medial and lateral posterior tibial slope, the difference of medial and lateral posterior tibial slope, the tibiofemoral rotation angle, the 3D femorotibial angle, the 3D hip-knee-ankle angle, and the passing point of the weight-bearing line (medial-lateral and anterior-posterior).

Purpose: We sought to develop machine learning models to predict the results of patient-specific quality assurance (QA) for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), which were represented by several dose-evaluation metrics-including the gamma passing rates (GPRs)-and criteria based on the radiomic features of 3D dose distribution in a phantom.
Methods: A total of 4,250 radiomic features of 3D dose distribution in a cylindrical dummy phantom for 140 arcs from 106 clinical VMAT plans were extracted. We obtained the following dose-evaluation metrics: GPRs with global and local normalization, the dose difference (DD) in 1% and 2% passing rates (DD1% and DD2%) for 10% and 50% dose threshold, and the distance-to-agreement in 1-mm and 2-mm passing rates (DTA1 mm and DTA2 mm) for 0.
Introduction: Advanced urachal carcinoma has a poor prognosis; however, a standard systemic treatment has not been established. We treated a patient with relapsed urachal carcinoma with capecitabine-oxaliplatin plus bevacizumab, a standard regimen for colon cancer, and obtained favorable responses.

A 73-year-old male patient with postoperative recurrent rectal cancer developed thrombocytopenia after XELOX therapy. Thrombocytopenia persisted despite chemotherapy discontinuation;therefore, he was referred to our department for further evaluation. Bone marrow specimen examination revealed increased immature megakaryocytes and blood test results revealed elevated platelet-associated immunoglobulin G (PA-IgG) levels, leading to immune thrombocytopenic purpura diagnosis.

The combination of systemic amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis and xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) resulting from a chronic urinary tract infection is extremely rare. We herein report a case of systemic AA amyloidosis secondary to XGP for which clinical remission developed after nephrectomy. To our knowledge, this is the first case report describing the clinical improvement of systemic AA amyloidosis secondary to XGP after nephrectomy in Japan.

Background And Purpose: Spinal cord lesions are observed in 40% of all central nervous system lesions in intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL). However, because IVLBCL is a very rare disease, its clinical features are not well defined, which may delay appropriate diagnosis and treatment, whilst the acute to subacute course of brain lesions in patients with IVLBCL is well established. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the clinical features of spinal cord lesions in patients with IVLBCL.

Background: Some aneurysms cause edema formation in the surrounding brain parenchyma and are thought to reflect various phenomena occurring in the aneurysm. Some authors highlighted perianeurysmal edema (PAE) as a finding that indicates higher risk of rupture of the aneurysm. On the other hand, there are no reports of image changes in the surrounding brain parenchyma of aneurysm other than edema formation.

Bouveret syndrome is a rare type of ileus caused by the impaction of gallstones passing through a cholecystoenteric fistula in the duodenum. Endoscopic treatment with minimally invasive procedures is preferable for patients with this syndrome, typically for elderly individuals with a high surgical risk. Conventional endoscopic techniques often fail to remove impacted stones that are generally large and occasionally solid.
