Return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) during chest compression is generally detected by arterial pulse palpation and end-tidal CO2 monitoring; however, it is necessary to stop chest compression during pulse palpation, and to perform endotracheal intubation for monitoring end-tidal CO2. Objectives: To determine whether lysophosphatidic acid activates the mitogen-activated protein kinase and increases DNA synthesis in human bladder smooth muscle cells, and to examine the involvement of lysophosphatidic acid and lysophosphatidic acid receptor in mechanical stretch-induced mitogen-activated protein kinase activation in cultured human bladder smooth muscle cells.

Methods: TaqMan reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the mRNA expression levels of six lysophosphatidic acid receptor subtypes. Mitogen-activated protein kinase activity enhanced by either lysophosphatidic acid or mechanical stretch was measured by western blotting.

Epidemiological studies have shown that lower urinary tract symptoms, including overactive bladder, commonly occur in both men and women, with an age-related increase in both sexes. Vascular endothelial dysfunction and urological symptoms are common in the metabolic syndrome; they also occur during the human ageing process and are independent risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis and hypertension. Pelvic arterial insufficiency may lead to impaired lower urinary tract perfusion and play an important role in the development of bladder dysfunction such as detrusor overactivity and overactive bladder.

Monitoring of filter patency during carotid artery stenting using near-infrared spectroscopy with high time-resolution.

We aimed to evaluate the usefulness of a newly developed, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) device for monitoring hemodynamic changes during carotid artery stenting (CAS), as a means to detect filter obstruction due to distal embolism. We evaluated 16 patients with internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis during the CAS procedure, using a NIRS system that can monitor not only changes in oxygenation of hemoglobin (Hb), but also the fluctuation of oxyhemoglobin (oxy-Hb) synchronized with heartbeat. The NIRS system detected a marked decrease of oxy-Hb and an increase of deoxyhemoglobin (deoxy-Hb) during ICA occlusion in patients without anterior cross circulation (ACC).

Near-infrared spectroscopy enables recognition of various brain conditions based on certain factors, such as oxygenated hemoglobin (oxy-Hb). Since July 2012, we have been trying to determine the mechanisms of autonomic function in Japanese children with orthostatic intolerance (also called orthostatic dysregulation) in Nihon University Itabashi Hospital in Tokyo, Japan.
