Ultrasound-Assisted, Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis for Acute Intermediate/High-Risk Pulmonary Embolism: Design of the Multicenter USAT IH-PE Registry and Preliminary Results.

Catheter-based revascularization procedures were developed as an alternative to systemic thrombolysis for patients with intermediate-high- and high-risk pulmonary embolisms. USAT IH-PE is a retrospective and prospective multicenter registry of such patients treated with ultrasound-facilitated, catheter-directed thrombolysis, whose preliminary results are presented in this study. The primary endpoint was the incidence of pulmonary hypertension (PH) at follow-up.

The profunda artery perforators: Anatomical study and radiological findings using computed tomography angiography in patients undergoing PAP flap breast reconstruction.

Background: The popularity of the profunda femoris artery perforator (PAP) flap is increasing; however, knowledge concerning the standardization of radiological findings and their clinical implications is limited. We evaluated the radiological architecture of posterior thigh perforators using Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) to identify landmarks to facilitate flap dissection.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 35 patients who underwent unilateral breast reconstruction with a PAP flap.

Determinants of worse liver-related outcome according to HDV infection among HBsAg positive persons living with HIV: Data from the ICONA cohort.

Objectives: We aimed to study hepatitis D virus (HDV) prevalence and risk of progression to severe liver-related events (SLRE) in HBsAg positive people living with HIV (PLWH) in Italy; role of HDV-RNA copy levels, HCV coinfection and nadir CD4 counts were also investigated.

Methods: People living with HIV (PLWH) from Italian Foundation cohort Naïve antiretrovirals (ICONA) with available HBsAg and HDV Ab were enrolled. HBsAg, HDV Ab, HDV-RNA and HDV genotypes were tested.

Stent-assisted Woven EndoBridge device for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms: an international multicenter study.

Objective: The Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device is an intrasaccular flow disruptor designed for wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms. These aneurysms may require the use of a concomitant stent. The objective of this study was to determine the clinical and radiological outcomes of patients undergoing stent-assisted WEB treatment.

Unleashing the Power of Artificial Intelligence in Materials Design.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in materials design is revolutionizing the field of materials engineering thanks to their power to predict material properties, design de novo materials with enhanced features, and discover new mechanisms beyond intuition. In addition, they can be used to infer complex design principles and identify high-quality candidates more rapidly than trial-and-error experimentation. From this perspective, herein we describe how these tools can enable the acceleration and enrichment of each stage of the discovery cycle of novel materials with optimized properties.

Adjuvant mitotane versus surveillance in low-grade, localised adrenocortical carcinoma (ADIUVO): an international, multicentre, open-label, randomised, phase 3 trial and observational study.

Background: Adjuvant treatment with mitotane is commonly used after resection of adrenocortical carcinoma; however, treatment remains controversial, particularly if risk of recurrence is not high. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of adjuvant mitotane compared with surveillance alone following complete tumour resection in patients with adrenocortical carcinoma considered to be at low to intermediate risk of recurrence.

Methods: ADIUVO was a multicentre, open-label, parallel, randomised, phase 3 trial done in 23 centres across seven countries.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to adapt the Upper Extremity Functional Index (UEFI) to an Italian population affected by Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) by translating and validating this instrument in an Italian cohort.

Materials And Methods: Five Italian FSHD patients were interviewed regarding the form and content of the translated instrument. Subsequently, fifty-two patients were recruited for the validation purpose by serially completing the UEFI-IT and a battery of clinical assessments and questionnaires.

Background: The new dedicated stents for endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transluminal drainage of peri‑pancreatic fluid collections (PFCs) demonstrated optimal efficacy and safety profiles.

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the safety, technical and clinical success, and recurrence rate of PFCs drained with Lumen Apposing Metal Stent (LAMS) or Bi-Flanged Metal Stent (BFMS).

Background: the different lockdown phases due to COVID-19 may have negatively impacted pregnant women's mental health. Concerning antenatal stress, most studies focused more on the effect of pandemic onset than on the impact of the following phases and restrictions.

Aim: the present study aimed to assess levels of anxiety and depression in a group of Italian pregnant women during the second COVID-19 phase and possible risk factors.

Background: Although laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) represents the gold-standard technique for kidney living donation, robotic donor nephrectomy (RDN) settled as another appealing minimally invasive technique over the past decades. A comparison between LDN and RDN outcomes was performed.

Methods: RDN and LDN outcomes were compared, focusing on operative time and perioperative risk factors affecting surgery duration.

The facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy - health index: Italian validation of a disease-specific measure of symptomatic burden.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to adapt the Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy - Health Index (FSHD-HI) to an Italian population affected by FSHD by translating, validating, and testing this instrument in an Italian cohort.

Materials And Methods: Italian FSHD patients were interviewed regarding the form and content of the translated instrument. Subsequently, forty FSHD patients were recruited to test the reliability (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient, ICC for test-retest; and Cronbach's Alpha for Internal consistency), known groups (Mann-Whitney U test and Area Under the Curve, AUC) and concurrent validity (Pearson's and Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient) of the instrument by serially completing the FSHD-HI and an extensive set of tests measuring the neuromotor, psychological and cognitive functions, and perceived quality of life (QoL) aspects.

The new Italian registry of infantile thrombosis (RITI): A reflection on its journey, challenges and pitfalls.

Introduction: Thrombotic events in neonates and children represent a rare although severe occurrence in view of the associated risk of mortality and sequelae. Quality evidence is limited in this field, and registry studies provide an essential base for research. The aim of this paper is to present the new Italian Registry of Infantile Thrombosis (RITI), set it into the scene of international thrombosis and stroke registries, and provide some insight on the challenges associated with registry management.

Biomimetic scaffolds using triply periodic minimal surface-based porous structures for biomedical applications.

The design of biomimetic porous scaffolds has been gaining attention in the biomedical sector lately. Shells, marine sponges, shark teeth, cancellous bone, sea urchin spine, and the armadillo armor structure are examples of biological systems that have already been studied to drive the design of innovative, porous, and multifunctional structures. Among these, triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs) have attracted the attention of scientists for the fabrication of biomimetic porous scaffolds.

Endoscopic entero-enteral bypass to treat postsurgical benign complications of hepatico-jejunostomy: Update of a 7-year single-center experience.

Since 2014, we have been using a new endoscopic approach to improve management of biliary adverse events (BAEs) after bilio-digestive anastomosis. We provide an update about our experience at 7 years. Patients with BAEs on hepatico-jejunostomy underwent entero-enteral endoscopic by-pass (EEEB) creation between the duodenal/gastric wall and the biliary jejunal loop.

Serum uric acid and left ventricular mass index independently predict cardiovascular mortality: The uric acid right for heart health (URRAH) project.

Unlabelled: A relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) and cardiovascular (CV) events has been documented in the Uric Acid Right for Heart Health (URRAH) study.

Aim: of this study was to investigate the association between SUA and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) and whether SUA and LVMI or their combination may predict the incidence of CV death.

Methods: Subjects with echocardiographic measurement of LVMI included in the URRAH study (n=10733) were part of this analysis.

Carboplatin and paclitaxel plus avelumab compared with carboplatin and paclitaxel in advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer (MITO END-3): a multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 2 trial.

Background: Adding immunotherapy to first-line chemotherapy might improve outcomes for patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. We aimed to compare carboplatin and paclitaxel versus avelumab plus carboplatin and paclitaxel as first-line treatment with avelumab given concurrent to chemotherapy and as maintenance after the end of chemotherapy.

Methods: MITO END-3 is an open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 2 trial conducted at 31 cancer institutes, hospitals, and universities in Italy.

Surgical Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Multicenter Competing-risk Analysis of Tumor-related Death Following Liver Resection and Transplantation Under an Intention-to-treat Perspective.

Background: Early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma could benefit from upfront liver resection (LR) or liver transplantation (LT), but the optimal strategy in terms of tumor-related outcomes is still debated. We compared the oncological outcomes of LR and LT for hepatocellular carcinoma, stratifying the study population into a low-, intermediate-, and high-risk class according to the risk of death at 5-y predicted by a previously developed prognostic model. The impact of tumor pathology on oncological outcomes of low- and intermediate-risk patients undergoing LR was investigated as a secondary outcome.

Prevalence and clinical significance of ANCA positivity in lupus nephritis: a case series of 116 patients and literature review.

Unlabelled: The prevalence and clinical significance of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies [ANCAs] in patients with lupus nephritis [LN] is not fully elucidated. Our aim was to determine whether LN patients with ANCA positivity had different clinicopathological features and outcomes compared to ANCA-negative patients.

Methods: Among our LN patients we retrospectively selected those who underwent ANCA testing the day of the kidney biopsy and before the start of induction treatment.
