This work presents, for the first time, the preparation method and subsequent use of biosilica in column liquid chromatography in reverse-phase mode. Diatom biosilica consists of the siliceous exoskeletons (frustules) of unicellular algae. Controlled cultivation of Pseudostaurosira trainorii diatoms resulted in frustules with an average diameter of approximately 4 µm, sidewall thickness of 1 µm, and a bottom thickness of 110-150 nm.

In this study, we explore the substrate-mediated control of self-assembly behavior in diboron molecules (CHBO, BCat) using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The structural transformation of BCat molecules from one-dimensional (1D) molecular chains to two-dimensional (2D) molecular arrays was achieved by changing the substrate from Au(111) to bilayer graphene (BLG), highlighting the key role of substrate interactions in determining the assembly structure. Notably, the B-B bond in the molecular arrays on BLG is distinctly pronounced, reflecting a more refined molecular resolution with distinct electronic states than that on Au(111).

We introduce the electron attachment equation-of-motion pair coupled cluster doubles (EA-EOM-pCCD) ansatz, which allows us to inexpensively compute electron affinities, energies of unoccupied orbitals, and electron attachment spectra. We assess the accuracy of EA-EOM-pCCD for a representative data set of organic molecules for which experimental data are available, as well as the electron attachment process in uranyl dichloride. EA-EOM-pCCD provides more reliable energies for electron attachment properties than its ionization potential EOM counterpart.

Photon avalanche (PA)-where the absorption of a single photon initiates a 'chain reaction' of additional absorption and energy transfer events within a material-is a highly nonlinear optical process that results in upconverted light emission with an exceptionally steep dependence on the illumination intensity. Over 40 years following the first demonstration of photon avalanche emission in lanthanide-doped bulk crystals, PA emission has been achieved in nanometer-scale colloidal particles. The scaling of PA to nanomaterials has resulted in significant and rapid advances, such as luminescence imaging beyond the diffraction limit of light, optical thermometry and force sensing with (sub)micron spatial resolution, and all-optical data storage and processing.

The phenotype, genetic sex ratio and gonadal development characteristics were evaluated in randomly selected juvenile (15 months old), sub-adult (22 months old) and adult (30 months old) triploid hybrids of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis). The examined fish originated from the family produced by application High Hydrostatic Pressure (HHP) shock (9500 psi for 5 minutes, applied 35 minutes post-fertilization at 10°C) to eggs stripped from five rainbow trout females and fertilized with sperm of two brook trout males. After hatching, all fish were reared under the same conditions for three years.
