Introduction: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is the most performed bariatric surgery but gastric leaks following SG occur in up to 2% of cases. Regenerative medicine is emerging as a promising field offering multiple possibilities in wound healing. We studied the efficiency of locally administered mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on leak closure following SG in rats.

Department of Physiology, Nice Medical School, University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, France.

Objective: To evaluate the hemodynamic strain and the myocardial tolerance of weight-lifting exercises in healthy elderly subjects.

Methods: Sixty-five healthy elderly subjects (32 men/33 women) aged 65-80, were studied. Weight-lifting exercises consisted of two sets of 12 repetitions at 12-repetition maximum (RM) and four sets of five repetitions at 5-RM for, horizontal leg press, seated chest press, and bilateral leg extension movements.

We evaluated the hemodynamic impact of right ventricular pacing at different stimulation frequencies. Fourteen patients with a right ventricular pacemaker (VVI pacing with retrograde P wave) but without clinical and electrocardiographic evidence of coronary artery disease underwent two equilibrium radionuclide angiographies: one under low heart rate (50/60 beats per minute) and the other under fast heart rate (90/100 beats per minute). Left ventricular global and sectorial ejection fractions, amplitude and phase images of first harmonic, and sectorial phases of left ventricle were analyzed.

Thirty patients with partial or total staghorn lithiasis or calculi larger than 30 mm were treated by piezoelectric lithotripsy (PEL) monotherapy using an EDAP LT-01 lithotripter with ultrasound guidance. Nineteen of these patients had a pelvic stone; the other 11 had partial (nine) or total (two) staghorn lithiasis. All patients first underwent an initial lithotripsy session.
