Covid-19 has led to virtual care (mainly telephone consultations) becoming a default worldwide, despite well-documented shortcomings. Published evidence on virtual group consultations is limited, although interest and front-line experience have grown substantially since pandemic onset. Unpublished data are summarised showing feasibility of transitioning care to this model across different countries, care settings and conditions.

Ensilication is a novel method of protein thermal stabilisation using silica. It uses a modified sol-gel process which tailor fits a protective silica shell around the solvent accessible protein surface. These contributions are projected to shift with climate change, particularly in the Japanese Alps where snow is expected to decrease, but rainfall events increase. DNA-templated silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) are an emerging class of ultrasmall (<2 nm) fluorophores with increasing popularity for bioimaging due to their facile synthesis and tunable emission color. However, design rules correlating different nucleotide sequences with the photoemission properties of AgNCs are still largely unknown, preventing the rational design of DNA templates to fine-tune the emission color, brightness and functionalities of AgNCs for any targeted applications. Herein, we report a systematic investigation to understand the empirical influences of the four basic DNA nucleotides on AgNC synthesis and their effects on photoluminescence properties.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) deficiency is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous subtype of mitochondrial disease. We report two girls with ataxia and mitochondrial respiratory chain deficiency who were shown to have primary CoQ10 deficiency. Muscle histochemistry displayed signs of mitochondrial dysfunction-ragged red fibers, mitochondrial paracrystalline inclusions, and lipid deposits while biochemical analyses revealed complex II+III respiratory chain deficiencies.

The present perspective is a synthesis of published investigations in the setting of anomalous connection of the right superior caval vein to the morphologically left atrium or biatrial drainage of the right caval vein. We identified 57 suitable cases from 97 investigations, reviewing the clinical presentation, diagnostic modalities utilized, surgical techniques used, and their outcomes. Clinical presentation, radiographic findings, saline contrast echocardiography, computed tomographic angiocardiography, radionuclide perfusion scan, magnetic resonance imaging, and angiocardiography provided the diagnostic information and were used to define the disease entities before surgery.

A higher N-terminal-pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) at rest reflects HF severity and impaired cardiac output, most often secondary to reduced ejection fraction (EF). X-ray crystallographic studies supported by DFT modelling reveal the structure to be an open inverse crown in which two [Na(TMP)Zn(Bu)Na(TMP)Zn(Bu)] cationic units surround a {(CH)Fe} tetraanion. Detailed CD NMR studies have assigned the plethora of H and C chemical shifts of this complex.
