Parental strategies for home management of pain crisis in children with sickle cell anemia are not well studied. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) are thought of as the mainstay of home and in-patient pain management for pediatric patients with sickle cell disease. Parents and providers often fear the use of opioids due to the risk of addiction.

Introduction: Acute agitation is a common presenting symptom in medical and mental health emergencies that may require pharmacologic intervention. There is a manufacturer recommendation against intramuscular coadministration of olanzapine with parenteral (intramuscular or intravenous) benzodiazepines despite a deficiency of high-quality evidence. The purpose of this study was to contribute to available literature regarding intramuscular olanzapine and parenteral benzodiazepine use in acutely agitated patients in the emergency department (ED).

Background: Iatrogenic urinary injury (IUI) can lead to significant complications after colorectal surgery, especially when diagnosis is delayed. This study analyzes risk factors associated with IUI and delayed IUI among patients undergoing colorectal procedures.
Methods: Adults undergoing colorectal surgery between 2012 and 2021 were identified in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database.

Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a narrow QRS complex tachyarrhythmia with a heart rate above 220 beats per minute in infants and children. Ventricular tachycardia can be due to electrolyte abnormalities, cardiomyopathies, congenital heart disease, myocarditis or drug toxicity. Incidence has been estimated to be 1 in 250 to 1 in 1000 with spontaneous resolution in infants by one year of life.

Despite the established potentially curative role of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) in managing myelofibrosis (MF), the choice of alternative donors for patients lacking matched donors remains a challenge, and the optimal graft source in this disease entity continues to be an ongoing debate. We aimed to evaluate the impact of donor type: umbilical cord blood transplant supported with CD34+ selected haploidentical donor (haplo-cord) versus adult matched related donor (MRD) and matched unrelated donor (MUD) in 40 adult patients with primary or secondary MF, including those progressing to accelerated phase (AP) or blast phase (BP), who underwent their first allo-HCT. The primary objective of this study was to analyze the impact of stem cell source on primary endpoints of overall survival (OS), graft-versus-host disease, and non-relapse mortality (NRM).

Introduction: In the USA, up to 95% of individuals harbouring cancer-predisposing germline pathogenic variants have not been identified despite recommendations for screening at the primary care level.
Methods And Analysis: Our primary objective is to use a two-arm, single-institution randomised controlled trial to compare the proportion of eligible patients that are recommended genetic testing for hereditary cancer syndromes using a digital tool versus clinician interview for genetic cancer risk assessment in an urban academic gynaecology clinic. New gynaecology patients will be consented and randomised 1:1 to either the intervention arm, in which a digital tool is used for genetic cancer risk assessment, or usual care, in which the clinician performs genetic cancer risk assessment.

Background: Coronary disease complexity is commonly used to guide revascularization strategy in patients with multivessel disease (MVD).
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the interactive effects of coronary complexity on percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) outcomes and identify the optimal threshold at which PCI can be considered a reasonable option.
Methods: A total of 1,444 of 1,500 patients with MVD from the FAME (Fractional Flow Reserve versus Angiography for Multi-vessel Evaluation) 3 randomized trial were included in the analysis (710 CABG vs 734 PCI).

Background And Aims: The large global population of patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has recently been shown to have an association with chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to a host of proposed mechanisms, one of which being lipoprotein dysmetabolism. Furthermore, metabolic comorbidities have been concurrently prevalent in MASLD and CKD independently. This study aimed at analyzing risk and predictive traits among an obese population for both MASLD and CKD.

Rationale And Objectives: Many barriers to breastfeeding upon return to the workplace are reported by female radiologists, which have implications on maternal/infant health and physician burnout. The Department of Radiology at our institution piloted an initiative to provide a free portable breast pump to address these barriers.
Materials And Methods: An anonymous voluntary 32-question survey assessing the impact of the portable pump on postpartum work-life integration was sent to all female radiologists and radiologists-in-training in the department from May 2023 to July 2023.

Cirrhosis is a common liver condition caused by several etiologies including alcohol use disorder, infectious hepatitis, and metabolic dysfunction associated with liver disease. Although common symptomatic complications of cirrhosis include malaise, gastrointestinal bleeding, and abdominal distension, shortness of breath is a less common phenomenon that may occur. Hepatic hydrothorax (HH) is an uncommon cause of shortness of breath that is believed to be caused by the accumulation of ascitic fluid in the pleural space.

Introduction: Radiation Therapy and IRreversible Electroporation for Intermediate Risk Prostate Cancer (RTIRE) is a phase II clinical trial testing combination of radiation therapy and irreversible electroporation for intermediate risk prostate cancer BACKGROUND: PCa is the most common non-cutaneous cancer in men and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. PCa treatment is associated with long term side effects including urinary, sexual, and bowel dysfunction. Management of PCa is based on risk stratification to prevent its overtreatment and associated treatment-related toxicity.

Cerebellar strokes have high morbidity and mortality due to bleeding or edema, leading to increased pressure in the posterior fossa. This retrospective cohort study analyzed three outcomes following a cerebellar stroke: in-hospital mortality, length of hospital stay, and total hospitalization costs. It uses data from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) and aims to identify the predictors of outcomes in cerebellar stroke patients, including 464,324 patients, 18 years of age and older, hospitalized between 2010 and 2015 in US hospitals with cerebellar strokes.

Objectives: To develop a pre-operative tool to estimate the risk of peri-operative packed red blood cell transfusion in primary debulking surgery.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed an institutional database to identify patients who underwent primary debulking surgery for ovarian cancer at a single center between January 1, 2001 and May 31, 2019. Receiver operating characteristic curve and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were calculated.
