Background: The burden of neonatal mortality is primarily borne by low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including deaths due to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Few studies have assessed infection prevention and control (IP&C) practices in African units caring for small and/or sick newborns aimed to reduce HAIs.
Methods: We performed a mixed-methods study composed of a survey and virtual tour to assess IP&C and related practices.

Objective: The objective was to assess the performance of a context-enriched large language model (LLM) compared with international neurosurgical experts on questions related to the management of vestibular schwannoma. Furthermore, another objective was to develop a chat-based platform incorporating in-text citations, references, and memory to enable accurate, relevant, and reliable information in real time.
Methods: The analysis involved 1) creating a data set through web scraping, 2) developing a chat-based platform called neuroGPT-X, 3) enlisting 8 expert neurosurgeons across international centers to independently create questions (n = 1) and to answer (n = 4) and evaluate responses (n = 3) while blinded, and 4) analyzing the evaluation results on the management of vestibular schwannoma.

Objective: Recently, the endoscopic superior eyelid transorbital approach (SETA) has emerged as a potential alternative to access the cavernous sinus (CS). Several previous studies have attempted to quantitatively compare the traditional open anterolateral skull base approaches with transorbital exposure; however, these comparisons have been limited to the area of exposure provided by the bone opening and trajectory, and fail to account for the main avenues of exposure provided by subsequent requisite surgical maneuvers. The authors quantitatively compare the surgical access provided by the frontotemporal-orbitozygomatic (FTOZ) approach and the SETA following applicable periclinoid surgical maneuvers, evaluate the surgical exposure of key structures in each, and discuss optimal approach selection.

Introduction: Bromocriptine is a dopamine receptor agonist used for central hyperthermia with limited data. We describe our single-center experience utilizing bromocriptine for central hyperthermia, including the population treated, most common dosing regimens, adverse events, and discontinuation reasons.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted screening patients who were admitted to intensive care units for acute neurological insults and administered bromocriptine for central hyperthermia between April 2016 and September 2022.

Objectives: To assess effects of a Simulation-Based Discharge Education Program (SDP) on long-term caregiver-reported satisfaction and to compare clinical outcomes for children with new tracheostomies whose caregivers completed SDP versus controls.
Methods: The study employed a mixed methods approach: (1) a qualitative analysis of feedback from caregivers who previously completed SDP, and (2) a quantitative retrospective case-control study comparing outcomes between children with new tracheostomies whose caregivers completed SDP versus controls, matched on discharge disposition and age. The primary outcome was emergency department visits for tracheostomy-related issues within 1 year of discharge.

Objective: We developed and externally validated a machine-learning model to predict postpartum depression (PPD) using data from electronic health records (EHRs). Effort is under way to implement the PPD prediction model within the EHR system for clinical decision support. We describe the pre-implementation evaluation process that considered model performance, fairness, and clinical appropriateness.

Post-stroke cognitive impairment, depression, and fatigue are common, persistent, and disabling. This review summarizes current knowledge on the pathophysiology, assessment, and management of these debilitating neuropsychiatric sequelae of stroke. We briefly review evolving knowledge on the neural mechanisms and risk factors for each condition.

Background: There are limited data regarding treatment for failed balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valves (THVs) in redo-transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Aims: We aimed to assess THV performance, neoskirt height and expansion when performing redo-TAVI with the ACURATE platform inside a SAPIEN 3 (S3) compared to redo-TAVI with an S3 in an S3.
Methods: Redo-TAVI was performed on the bench using each available size of the S3, the ACURATE neo2 (ACn2) and the next-generation ACURATE Prime XL (AC XL) implanted at 2 different depths within 20 mm/23 mm/26 mm/29 mm S3s serving as the "failed" index THV.

Background: Adhesive small bowel obstruction (aSBO) is a common surgical problem, with some advocating for a more aggressive operative approach to avoid recurrence. Contemporary outcomes in a real-world setting were examined.
Study Design: A retrospective cohort study was performed using the New York Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative database to identify adults admitted with aSBO, 2016-2020.

The clinical standard of care in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases relies on [F] FDG-PET/CT or PET MR imaging. Limitations of FDG-PET include cost, the need for IV access, radiation exposure, and availability. Arterial spin-labeling MR imaging has been shown in research settings to be useful as a proxy for FDG-PET in differentiating Alzheimer disease from frontotemporal dementia.

Letters of recommendation are a cornerstone of residency applications. Variability and bias in letters exists across specialties, neurology being no exception. Studies done in other specialty fields assessing nuanced language uncovered key attention points for improvement and mitigation of bias, lessons from which should be applied in the field of neurology.

Elder mistreatment (EM) is a complex problem, with response and prevention requiring contributions from professionals from many disciplines. Community-based multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) that conduct meetings to discuss challenging cases and coordinate services are a common strategy to ensure effective collaboration. Though they play an important role in EM identification, intervention, and prevention, hospitals and hospital-based healthcare professionals have been particularly difficult to engage in MDTs.
