Conventional complete denture wearers often complain of lack of stability and overall discomfort with their prostheses. The advent of dental implants and advanced prosthetic methods have greatly improved this struggle for edentulous patients. The utilisation of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology has only further enhanced the capabilities of dental practitioners to rapidly and accurately restore edentulism.

Sjögren's disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by progressive salivary and lacrimal gland dysfunction, inflammation, and destruction, as well as extraglandular manifestations. SjD is associated with autoreactive B and T cells, but its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood. Abnormalities in regulatory T (T) cells occur in several autoimmune diseases, but their role in SjD is ambiguous.

A number of studies have reported an association between phosphorus, red blood cell (RBC) production, and iron metabolism. However, it is difficult to distinguish whether the effect of phosphorus is direct or through the actions of FGF23, and it is not clear whether phosphorus is positively or negatively associated with RBC production. In the present study, we investigated the effects of a) increased phosphorus load and b) phosphorus deficiency on erythropoiesis and iron metabolism in association with FGF23.

Objectives: Although several brief cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)-based treatments for dental fear have proven efficacious, these interventions remain largely unavailable outside of the specialty clinics in which they were developed. Leveraging technology, we sought to increase access to treatment for individuals with dental fear through the development of a mobile application (Dental FearLess).
Materials And Methods: To assess the resonance of our app as an avenue for dental fear treatment, we conducted a study assessing the usability, feasibility, and acceptability of the beta app.

Background: Oral cancer causes intense pain at the primary site, and such pain can impair oral functions. However, the underlying mechanisms for oral cancer pain are still not fully understood. In the present study, it is investigated whether programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) is involved in the development of oral cancer pain.

Preclinical data suggest that gestational exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) alter gut innervation, and delays colonic motility. In this study we investigated associations between gestational SSRI exposure and offspring disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI). Using population-based registries, we included all single-birth Danish children born 1997-2015 with follow-up until outcome occurrence, age 15 years, death, emigration, or December 2018.

Purpose: Interproximal contact loss (ICL) is considered a prevalent complication for a tooth abutting an implant restoration. While numerous potential causes for ICL have been presented, there is no consensus. A review of the current literature with a focus on possible risk factors was performed.

Dentistry has traditionally been male-dominated in North America, although "primary care" dentistry disciplines, including dental public health (DPH), have greater gender equity than other areas. However, gender gaps are likely to persist, specifically in academia. As an example of the measurement of inclusion, we sought to identify gender equity in authorship in publications in DPH and epidemiology over six years.

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of an intraoral scanner to digitally duplicate complete dentures and analyze the effects of mesh reduction of digital files on the surface area and volume accuracy of complete dentures, in vitro.
Methods: A mandibular complete denture was scanned by a desktop scanner to create a digital STL reference file (control). Fifteen identical scans were created by using an intraoral scanner and exported as STL files (test group).

Several mouse lines with congenital growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) axis disruption have shown improved health and extended lifespan. The current study investigated how inactivating this axis, specifically during aging, impacts the healthspan. We used a tamoxifen-inducible global GH receptor (GHR) knockout mouse model starting at 12 months and followed the mice until 24 months of age (iGHRKO mice).

Background: Dental caries is the world's most prevalent disease. Untreated caries can cause pain and negatively impact psychosocial health, functioning, and nutrition. It is important to identify cost-effective, easy-to-use agents, which can prevent or arrest caries.

Canagliflozin (CANA) is a sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor that reduces blood glucose levels. Sodium glucose cotransporter-2 is primarily expressed in the kidney, but not in any bone cells, therefore effects on the skeleton are likely to be non-cell autonomous. Originally developed to treat type II diabetes, CANA use has expanded to treat cardiovascular and renovascular disease.

Introduction: There are ongoing concerns about opioid prescribing for surgical and non-surgical dental needs among adolescent/young adult and adult patients. Although there are known differences in the overall opioid prescription rates in rural areas compared to urban areas, the contribution of dental opioid prescriptions is still unclear. This study aims to examine the factors associated with receiving an opioid prescription following a dental visit.

Ca2+ signaling via the store operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) mediated by STIM1 and STIM2 proteins and the ORAI1 Ca2+ channel is important in saliva fluid secretion and has been associated with Sjogren's disease (SjD). However, there are no studies addressing STIM1/2 dysfunction in salivary glands or SjD in animal models. We report that mice lacking Stim1 and Stim2 (Stim1/2K14Cre(+)) in salivary glands exhibited reduced Ca2+ levels and hyposalivate.

Rheological modifiers are an important component in the development of skin cream (SC) chassis for personal skin care products (PSCPs). The viscous behavior of a PSCP is critical to its effectiveness where its uniformity and material strength impact its processing, storage, and delivery of active ingredients. Due to the mildly acidic environment of the skin, PSCPs require a SC that will assist in maintaining their material strength at low pHs.

Objective: Immediate Tooth Replacement Therapy (ITRT) has become popular due to its ability to reduce treatment time and provide immediate esthetic results. However, long-term challenges, such as mid-facial recession and labial bone resorption, have been reported. Anatomic temporary cylinders (ATC), which allow for efficient fabrication of provisional transitional restorations in the esthetic zone, were designed to mimic the natural emergence profile and guide mucosal tissue healing.

Background: Continuously growing teeth are an important innovation in mammalian evolution, yet genetic regulation of continuous growth by stem cells remains incompletely understood. Dental stem cells responsible for tooth crown growth are lost at the onset of tooth root formation. Genetic signaling that initiates this loss is difficult to study with the ever-growing incisor and rooted molars of mice, the most common mammalian dental model species, because signals for root formation overlap with signals that pattern tooth size and shape (i.
