Surgical Management of Intestinal Obstruction Secondary to Barium Impaction: Two Exemplary Cases.

A "barium chemobezoar" or "barolith" is a rare but serious cause of intestinal obstruction. We present two cases, a 70-year-old female patient and a 61-year-old male patient, both requiring urgent surgery for barolith-induced bowel obstruction. Diagnostic challenges were encountered in both cases, with imaging raising suspicion for barolith formation after prior barium use.

Characteristics of Cardiac Abnormalities in Pediatric Patients With Acute COVID-19.

Introduction Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is known to cause cardiac abnormalities in adults. Cardiac abnormalities are well-described in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, but effects in children with acute COVID-19 are less understood. In this multicenter study, we assessed the cardiac effects of acute COVID-19 among hospitalized children (<21 years) admitted to three large healthcare systems in New York City.

Successful Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment of Foot Drop.

This case report presents a 63-year-old male patient with chronic left foot drop. The etiology for his condition most likely involved lateral lumbar stenosis and/or sacroiliac joint dysfunction resulting in radiculopathy and subsequent symptoms. The patient was previously recommended a surgical approach for his condition.

Gallbladder Volvulus Presenting as Acute Appendicitis.

Gallbladder volvulus is a rarely reported and diagnosed condition. We present a case of an elderly female with right lower quadrant pain mimicking acute appendicitis without conclusive imaging; however, due to worsening serological laboratory findings and sepsis picture, an exploratory laparotomy was performed. A necrotic gallbladder was removed, diagnosing gallbladder volvulus.
