School psychologists play a critical role in school-based Autism (AU) evaluations. Evidence-based AU evaluations should be multimodal, include multiple informants, and assess functioning across several domains. In the current era of COVID-19, school-based AU evaluations have become increasingly complex with school psychologists having to significantly adapt face-to-face evaluation procedures and/or conduct evaluations via teleassessment approaches.

Introduction: Achieving optimal adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) among adolescents living with HIV (ALWHIV) is challenging, especially in low-resource settings. To help accurately determine who is at risk of poor adherence, we developed and internally validated models comprising multi-level factors that can help to predict the individualized risk of poor adherence among ALWHIV in a resource-limited setting such as Uganda.

Methods: We used data from a sample of 637 ALWHIV in Uganda who participated in a longitudinal study, "Suubi+Adherence" (2012 to 2018).

Screening for HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorders: Sensitivity and Specificity.

Curr Top Behav Neurosci

November 2021

Centre for Urban Health Solutions, St Michael's Hospital, Toronto University, Toronto, ON, Canada.

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) remains prevalent among people living with HIV (PLWH), especially the mild forms, even those with well-controlled HIV. Recommendations from the literature suggest routine and regular screening for HAND to detect it early and manage it effectively and adjust treatments, if warranted, when present. However, screening for HAND is not routinely done, as there are no current guidelines on when to screen and which test or tests to use.

Management of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) is becoming increasingly important with HIV-positive people living normal life spans. We aimed to establish the level of HAND awareness among doctor and nurse occupational health practitioners, screening used to detect impairment, factors limiting screening for HAND, and training needs. One-hundred-and-five members of the nursing and physician professional societies for occupational health practitioners in South Africa and Occupational Health Departments at five South African universities responded to an email invitation to complete an online survey addressing demographics, HAND knowledge, screeners being used to screen for HAND and related training needs.

J Drug Issues

October 2019

Department of Sociomedical Sciences, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, 722 W. 168 Street, New York, NY 10032.

Undergraduate binge drinking, a well-documented problem at US institutions of higher education, has been associated with a host of negative behavioral health outcomes such as sexual assault, poor academic functioning, and mental health problems. Scholars have extensively examined individual-and institutional-level risk factors for binge drinking on campuses. However, these data have not been effectively translated into interventions to reduce rates of binge drinking.

Background: Although evidence-based assessments are the cornerstone of evidence-based treatments, it remains unknown whether incorporating evidence-based assessments into clinical practice enhances therapists' judgment of therapeutic improvement. This study examined whether the inclusion of youth- and parent-reported anxiety rating scales improved therapists' judgment of treatment response and remission compared to the judgment of treatment-masked independent evaluators (IEs) after (a) weekly/biweekly acute treatment and (b) monthly follow-up care.

Methods: Four hundred thirty six youth received cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), medication, CBT with medication, or pill placebo through the Child/Adolescent Anxiety Multimodal Study.

There are an estimated 2.1 million youth less than 15 years of age living with HIV globally (the majority perinatally HIV-infected [PHIV]) and millions more perinatally HIV-exposed uninfected (PHEU) youth who are expected to survive through adolescence and into adulthood. Transitioning from adolescence to young adulthood requires adaptation to more demanding social interactions, academic pressures, and individual responsibilities which place distinct demands on neurocognitive functions.

Scholars, politicians, and policy-makers have increasingly pointed to the role of narratives in recruiting militants and justifying violence, highlighting the need for counter-narratives that promote peace. However, few have offered concrete guidelines on how to construct counter-narratives. This exploratory study uses prototype theory from social psychology to analyse Taliban narratives written in Arabic on the historical figure Maḥmūd of Ghaznī (971-1030), who is portrayed as a figure worthy of emulation.
