Background: A healthier diet is associated with lower chronic disease burden, but the impact of neighbourhood food environments on disability and death in older adults is not known.

Methods: In the Cardiovascular Health Study, a cohort study of adults aged 65+, we calculated study years until death (years of life (YOL)), study years without activities of daily living (ADL) difficulty (years of able life; YoAL) and percent of study years without ADL difficulty (compression of disability). Linear regression quantified associations of food establishments within 5 km of baseline home address (as a z-score) with each outcome, adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics.

The tumor microenvironment has recently been well-studied in various gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). The gut microbiota, a collection of microorganisms in the human gastrointestinal tract, is one of the microenvironments associated with colon carcinogenesis. Introduction: Clinical staging aims to refine psychiatric diagnosis by describing mental disorders on a continuum of disorder progression, with the pragmatic goal of improved treatment planning and outcome prediction. The first systematic review on this topic, published a decade ago, included 78 papers, and identified separate staging models for schizophrenia, unipolar depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, substance use disorder, anorexia, and bulimia nervosa. The current review updates this review by including new proposals for staging models and by systematically reviewing research based upon full or partial staging models since 2012.

Predicting conversion to psychosis using machine learning: response to Cannon.

Background: We previously reported that machine learning could be used to predict conversion to psychosis in individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis with up to 90% accuracy using the North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study-3 (NAPLS-3) dataset. A definitive test of our predictive model that was trained on the NAPLS-3 data, however, requires further support through implementation in an independent dataset. In this report we tested for model generalization using the previous iteration of NAPLS-3, the NAPLS-2, using the identical machine learning algorithms employed in our previous study.

Introduction: Cigarette smoking is an important risk factor in the development of dyspnea. Programs designed to strengthen the respiratory muscles can improve dyspnea in people with or without lung disease. As a first step in understanding the feasibility of offering a respiratory muscle training (RMT) program to people who are seeking help to try to quit smoking, we asked callers who contacted the New York State Quitline about their dyspnea and potential interest in a home-based RMT program.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy via left bundle branch pacing in heart failure with complete left bundle branch block: is the defibrillator needed?

Aims: This retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the efficacy of dual-chamber left Bundle branch pacing (LBBP) as an alternative therapy for heart failure patients with complete left bundle branch block (CLBBB) and indications for defibrillator with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT-D).

Methods: 34 patients met inclusion criteria were enrolled in the study. These criteria included a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of lower than 35%, a New York Heart Association functional class of II-IV, CLBBB meeting Strauss's criteria, intraventricular dyssynchrony, and confirmed correction of CLBBB during LBBP.

Ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors (SCST) are a rare subset of ovarian neoplasms originating from supportive tissues surrounding oocytes. Despite their rarity, prompt diagnosis and management are crucial due to their potential for diverse clinical presentations and the need to optimize patient outcomes. A 25-year-old female patient was initially diagnosed with pyelonephritis but later discovered to have a large right adnexal mass suspected to be a tubo-ovarian abscess.
